The Century-Old French Girl Skincare Secret That’s Taking Over Haircare
Micellar water has been around since the early 1900s. It was developed in France so women would have a no-rinse, soap-free product to wash their faces with instead of harsh city water. But now this ingredient is being used in shampoos and conditioners. The new Pantene Pro-V Micellar Gentle Cleansing Water and Moisturizing Milk collection […]

Lately, my skin looks dull and tired. How can I make it look more energized?
Fatigued skin looks dull and lacklustre, and that’s usually because it’s lacking proper, restorative rest. If slowing down your schedule to get more rest isn’t an option (it so rarely is!), then make the most out of the sleep you are able to make and try an overnight mask. A substantial layer of a mask such as Lancôme Énergie de Vie Nuit Overnight Recovery Mask ($78, sephora.ca) will work wonders in a short span of time. This particular formula contains hydrating wild yam root extract, rhodiola root extract (helpful for fighting signs of fatigue), and gentiana root extract (radiance-boosting!). A few nights wearing this mask and your skin will appear more energized. -
Grammys beauty: Why Beyoncé’s wet hair and Lorde’s dark lips were the best looks of the night
We understand it may be wildly unfair to compare Beyoncé to, well, anyone else. But Lorde was blessed by Bey last night (touching Beyoncé = blessed) and she also took home two Grammy awards, so we think that gives her enough music industry magic to stand her own in this beauty roundup.
While teenage stars often succumb to adopting a shimmering, fairy princess-esque look for major red carpet events, Lorde stayed true to her signature look of deep lipstick and loose, wavy hair— like an edgy, mini Alanis Morissette. “We wanted to keep the look fresh and radiant. Modern, a bit boyish and darkly cool with a lip focus,” said M.A.C senior artist, Amber Dreadon. After applying M.A.C Lipliner in “Vino,” Dreadon mixed two lipsticks together for Lorde’s Grammys look: “Heroine” (a bright purple with a fitting name) and “Cyber” (a vamp-worthy maroon). The final result was an edgy shade of deep-purple with an almost ombré effect.

Beauty Fix: An extra way to protect your hair from heat-styling damage, your holiday beauty go-to and more
Every week our Beauty Fix columnist takes on your questions about makeup, skincare, hair and more. Have a beauty question we haven’t answered? Email us at beautyfix@fashionmagazine.com.
I heat-style my hair more in the winter because I wash it in the morning and don’t want to head out with damp hair in cold weather. How do I protect my hair against this increased contact with heat tools?
As soon as the temperature is low enough to freeze hair in the duration of a short stroll outside, air-drying season is officially over and blow-drying becomes necessary. Hopefully you’re in the habit of using a heat-protectant spray whenever you decide to turn on the hot tools, but if you’re especially concerned with heat damage switch up your shampoo and conditioner. Pantene Pro-V Heat Shield Shampoo and Conditioner ($6 each, at drugstores) is geared to defending your hair in each step of the cleansing and styling process. This shampoo and conditioner duo each contain a heat-activated oil that protects against heat styling up to 450 degrees, making it your go-to every time you’re planning on breaking out the hair dryer and flat iron. Using this shampoo and condition in conjunction with a thermal protectant spray should keep hair in tip top shape all year!

Velvet skin and bow tie-folded hair made for a “not so pretty” beauty look at Jeremy Laing Spring 2014
Gender differentiation was of no importance at the Jeremy Laing Spring 2014 show. Which model—male or female—wore what was only a matter of sizing, according to Laing. The same went for the “not so pretty looking” beauty: Male and female models alike were given matte skin, courtesy Cover Girl Clean Whipped Creme Foundation ($9, well.ca). In order to ensure an on-trend velvet texture, Cover Girl makeup pro, Amélie Ducharme, applied the foundation with a heavy hand. (The more product, the more matte the finish!) Aside from skin, models’ eyebrows were the focus of the face. Ducharme filled them in with a dark shade of Cover Girl Brow and EyeMakers ($5, well.ca) and then brushed brows upwards to look “more manly.”
