Kate Middleton wears Prabal Gurung! The royal tour of Southeast Asia is definitely off to a fashionable start

It’s only day one of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s royal tour of Southeast Asia but we’re already proclaiming the trip a fashion success. The Duchess debuted two new dresses today and oh, do they ever make up for the weeks and weeks of repeated Olympic items. First up: Will and Kate visited the Singapore Botanic Gardens to attend an orchid naming ceremony and visit an orchid that was named for Princess Diana prior to her death. Kate Middleton wore a pale-pink dress by Jenny Packham and, much to our delight, the dress featured an orchid print. Apparently she commissioned the custom design, and while the print isn’t an exact match for the “Vanda William Catherine” orchid—which is white with a spotty purple pattern—we have to admit it comes pretty close.

Despite the fact that William and Harry are also Olympic ambassadors, it’s no surprise (to us, at least!) that Kate Middleton is the most popular royal at various London 2012 celebrations. Yesterday she took part in her first medal ceremony, presenting the gold for men’s discus. And because Kate always knows how to dress the part, she ditched her usual Team GB uniform for a more official-looking outfit.

Pictures from today’s Paralympic events brought back all the Olympic joy we’ve been missing these past few weeks—joy which includes the return of Prince William and Kate Middleton having the time of their royal lives. Our excitement over their lovey-dovey cheering of athletes was so great that it inspired the creation of FASHION’s first animated gif. (We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!) Now, onto the important topic of what Kate’s wearing:

Kate watch: Longtime royal photographer Sam Hussein on why our dear Duchess is always so picture perfect
Photography by Samir Hussein/WireImage/Getty Images See all of Kate’s smiles (and looks!) »
We’d always assumed Kate Middleton was a natural in front of cameras, but now we have proof: Sam Hussein, a royal photographer who has been with the royal family since 2006, recently told Vogue UK one thing (among many) that the brunette beauty has going for her is her natural smile.
“She’s always smiling and it’s a very natural smile, which doesn’t seem forced like you get with a lot of high-profile figures,” Hussein told Vogue UK. “[…] She’s pretty, very natural and is always so well-presented. I have taken thousands of photos of her from all angles and I can say that she hardly ever looks bad or miserable in photos. She has a great smile and that’s what the public associate with her.”

Kate Middleton sings along to Monty Python while recycling another look at the Olympic closing ceremony

Amidst the excitement of The Spice Girls reunion and the gold-on-gold (on gold) Brit model spectacular at last night’s Olympic closing ceremonies in London, our eyes, as usual, were firmly planted on dear Duchess of Cambridge. Attending alongside Prince Harry to represent the Royal Family, Kate spent the evening in typically good-natured form singing along to the many famed Brit tunes by George Michael, Take That, One Direction and even Eric Idle of Monty Python. In similarly typical form, Kate dropped the Team GB polo she sported mid-games and opted for another old faithful: the dotted-blue Whistles “Bella” dress she wore earlier this summer to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert. It was lucky for us to get a second look given that we never got a good look at the concert, and y’all know how important those are to us! As for the rest of the ensemble, Kate carried her Anya Hindmarch “Maud clutch” which bears a custom embroidered “C” for Catherine and wore the custom Kiki McDonough diamond and topaz earrings she’s been spotted with all summer long.

While we’re huge fans of Kate Middleton’s ever-present Olympic uniform (Smythe blazer, Team GB polo shirt, Zara skinnies and Stuart Weitzman wedges), the ladylike white-on-white look she donned for Great Britain’s women’s hockey team bronze medal win today was decidedly refreshing.

After a weekend of wearing navy (and a few days away from the public eye) Kate’s back on the scene in London in her classic Olympic uniform. The Duchess watched the women’s hockey semifinals last night while wearing her navy Smythe blazer, Stuart Weitzman wedges, skinny jeans and white Team GB polo shirt—making the outfit very similar to the one she wore during her meet and greet with the team back in March.

It’s not often that we can say we spent the weekend doing the same things as Kate Middleton, but thanks to the Olympics dominating almost all of our time, we’ll allow this one comparison to living like the duchess. While our participation was limited to the living room couch, Kate wasn’t just celebrating in the stands: on Monday she watched the men’s Laser sailing race from a yacht!

Can we make a rule that the Olympics should always be held in London? Without a doubt, the Kate watching has been our favourite sport so far (okay, we kid… sightly) and yesterday’s bear hug from William further rewarded this sentiment. But, onto today!

Olympic OMG! Kate and Will hug it out in matching Team GB polos!
See what else Kate wore today » If this doesn’t melt your heart, we don’t know what will. Kate and Will have clearly given themselves over to the spirit of the London 2012 games, and even went for a full out hug while watching the Team GB athletes at the Velodrome today! In the same […]
