Fashion news: More unretouched models, the Queen honours Luella Bartley, and LSD is the new LBD
Designer Amanda Wakeley and milliner Stephen Jones were honored by the Queen with an Order of the British Empire (OBE). Luella Bartley received an MBE. We’ll leave it up to you and Wikipedia to parse the difference between those two. [Grazia]
In yet more awarding news, Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation has named their 2010 winners, including red-carpet up-and-comer Prabal Gurung and new name on the tailoring block Joseph Altuzarra. The honour comes with a US$25,000 prize to go toward the designers’ Fall 2010 presentation. [WWD]

Browsing the Holt Renfrew holiday pop-up
The Holts pop-up transformed the Fashion House condos location (560 King St. W., Toronto) into a holiday boutique filled with luxe, well-edited picks from Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Alexander Wang et al. Though the merch was heavy on winter (Sorel boots and house brand Cowichans, loads of flannel, and stocking stuffers like Dandi Maestre bracelets and […]

Calgary: Christina Hendricks, Heather Marks and Elisha Cuthbert party at Holt Renfrew opening
While we were busy at the New Moon premiere in Toronto on Thursday night, Holt Renfrew was loading up on star power for the opening of their new Calgary flagship. Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks was there (with new hubby Geoffrey Arend) in a cool suit-like dress by Canadian David Szeto, while Calgary homegirl Heather Marks sported a mesh dress with patent appliqués by another Canuck designer, Rita Liefhebber. Jeremy Piven, Gossip Girl Kristen Bell and Glee‘s Jessalyn Gilsig also made an appearance, as did 24‘s Elisha Cuthbert with her Flames boyfriend, Dion Phaneuf. Calgary band The Fast Romantics played a set (with some unplanned accompaniment from Piven, who insisted on drumming–to mixed reviews) before handing over the dance floor to DJ Samantha Ronson.
Check out the party pics after the jump.

Vancouver shop talk: Qortezan
Most fashionistas-in-the-know are familiar with Edie Hats, the legendary Granville Island hat shop for finding everything from a trendy fedora or Panama hat to a cloche or wide-brimmed number suitable for the Sunday races. Little did we know, however, that its owner, Edie Orenstein, has always also dreamed of opening a store inspired by the great courtesans of history, who earned respect by virtue of their wit and sensuality. Enter Qortezan (1035 Mainland St., Vancouver, 604-685-7755, qortezan.com), a new, elegant Yaletown space

FASHION at CIFF: Calgary Film Fest director gets red carpet ready at Mealan
This week marks the opening of the Calgary International Film Festival (calgaryfilm.com) and ten days of premiere-hopping and socializing with the stars.
Taking time out from her busy gig as executive director for CIFF, Jacqueline Dupuis shared with me a few of her style secrets that take her from day to night over ten days and approximately one hundred and eighty eight films. Rule number one was enlisting the help of a stylist, Leah Van Loon.

Vancouver shop talk: Diplomatic Immunity
It was good timing when I discovered Diplomatic Immunity (2956 Granville St., 604-734-0060) a few months ago, before I left on vacation for Spain. Purveyors of very-travel-friendly clothing (think lightweight, wrinkle-free fabrics), the fall collection is perfect for Vancouver’s mild weather

Guelph: London calling
Packing for a trip to London, England can be challenging. Correction: Packing for a trip to London with a baggage limit of 20 kilos is certainly challenging.
Scanning my closet, the question that bounced around in my head was of course “W.W.K.M.D?” (What would Kate Moss do?) Well, first off, Kate would probably just pay the surcharge for the excess baggage…but that’s beside the point.
After packing the required Soho garments–Gladiator sandals? Check. Skinny jeans? Check. Black riding boots? Check. Tailored vest, or rather waistcoat? Check–I still couldn’t help but think that there was something missing.

H&M hits Halifax on August 13
On Thursday, August 13 at noon, the doors of Nova Scotia’s first H&M will open in Dartmouth’s Mic Mac Mall (21 Micmac Blvd., 902-466-2535) and, you know what? I’ve got mixed feelings.
It’s blasphemy, I know—we’re too often ignored over here on the East Coast and I should be celebrating with the giant “Thank you!” H&M billboard I spied earlier this week. But I just can’t. That same jealous twang that popped into my childhood heart when I realized my BFF had other friends and, gasp, they had matching friendship bracelets, too (!) is holding me back. You see, I’m admittedly selfish about my relationship with H&M.

Winnipeg: Sarah’s top 5 shopping spots
One year has passed since I wrote my first blog post for fashionmagazine.com, sadly, that means my time is up. I decided to leave you all with my top five places to shop in the wonderful city of Winnipeg.
Cha Cha Palace (shown, 173 Lilac St., 204-284-4128) for unique shoes, amazing bags, sexy lingerie and dresses, both expensive and affordable. A wonderful hidden gem with quality pieces. A recently opened second location (468 Main St., 204-943-8440) deals solely in shoes, bags and accessories (for men too!).
