15 of the best celebrity looks that prove ombre hair is so not over
See the best celebrity ombre hair »
For as long as we can remember (and by that we mean since approximately 2010), the ombre has been hot. Ascending the ranks of typical two-year hair trend cycles, the ombre has proved perennial: it just keeps coming back. And although we can’t exactly pinpoint when and how the trend came to be (one too many missed trips to the hair salon could be a possibility), there is no doubt that many celebs have caught the ombre bug, including two of its earliest adopters, Jessica Alba and Nicole Richie.
The classic ombre (think Sarah Jessica Parker) shows no signs of departing, but an edgy dark versus light a la Demi Lovato has become more and more popular in recent years. If standing out from the pack is your thing, Brit It girl, Poppy Delevingne works a reverse take on it that may be one of the best celebrity ombre hair looks we’ve seen. And then there is Kylie Jenner whose hairstyles may not be considered ombre per se, but the dip dye-like effect is definitely one chic version we know many fans will follow suit this season. Still think ombre hair is so last year? From Olivia Wilde to Jared Leto, we track down 15 of the best celebrity ombre hair looks that prove the gradient is so not over.

What exactly is a toning shampoo and what is it used for?
Toner is generally applied to hair that has been bleached in order to bring the colour down to the desired shade. A toning shampoo performs the function of a toner in a shampoo step to refresh and correct the tone of hair that has been succumbed to an undesired shade shift. John Frieda Sheer Blonde Colour Renew Tone Correcting Shampoo ($14, well.ca) works to tone hair colour by absorbing UV light and emitting white-blue light so that brassy tones are eliminated and your hair is returned to its former salon-fresh shade in as little as three washes. How do I protect my hair from overexposure in the sun and keep it healthy?
Our overall efforts related to a healthy life usually incorporate intense hydration and sun protection—hair is no exception to these efforts. Keep hair hydrated with moisturizing hair masques and be sure to protect hair when in the sun either by donning a hat or using products that contain sun filters in their formulations. If you want to rewind the clock, treat your hair as you would for your face and make sure you’re treating hair to beneficial ingredients! Schwarzkopf BC Hair Therapy Time Restore Rejuvenating Spray ($18, at salons) is a leave-in spray that contains coenzyme Q10, a well-known anti-aging mainstay, which stimulates production of two keratin types that usually slow down in natural production over time. This spray will help hair remain shiny, voluminous and healthy. -

How can I make sure my facial flush lasts when I’m poolside or beachside?
Making makeup last in heat is a challenge every summer. Making makeup last in situation involving heat and water definitely calls for heavy artillery. When water gets involved, definitely opt for more sweat- and water-resistant products, like Cargo Swimmables Blush in “Bali” ($29, murale.ca). This formula will stay in place come high humidity or splashes of water due to silicone-coated powder that adheres to skin better, which means you’ll look glowing and radiant. This soft pink shade in particular is very natural looking and provides such an effortless flush, making it a blush you’ll be reaching for all summer and well into the fall.

Is the bush back? Why you should rethink your monthly Brazilian wax
Not ready to let it grow? 5 bush grooming essentials »
I remember my first time. It was over 10 years ago and, like all first times, it’s a bit of a blur. But I do remember that it involved a trim redhead with a thick Scottish burr contemplating my lady garden as she warmed up her little pot of wax.
“Oh, don’t worry,” she said cheerfully. “Your wee man in a boat is safe with me!” And then she weeded my garden thoroughly, and I loved the results. Everything was so tidy! I haven’t gone back to my fully au naturel self below the belt since. What can I say? I’m a woman of the times, and the times said Brazilian, Brazilian, Brazilian.

Beauty Fix: Hydration help for damaged hair, sunscreen that will mattify oily skin and more

What can I use on my hair to make it feel as though it’s never been coloured or heat-styled?
Hair that hasn’t felt the wrath of a flat iron, blow dryer or dye is usually a distant, fond memory, but that doesn’t always have to be the case. Hair in its natural state—that is, unprocessed—has a lipid layer that exists shaft. This layer is comprised of 21 carbon molecules, which, when we begin heat-styling or colouring our hair, become heavily eroded. The result is hair that has less lipid protection than before, making it prone to damage, dryness and breakage. Certain hydrating hair products are useful in balancing our lipid layer molecule count, which drastically improves the texture of hair. Try a new hyper-hydrator for thirsty hair like Schwarzkopf Professional BC Moisture Kick Beauty Balm ($18, at salons). It contains hyaluronic acid, which has the same effect in hair as it does for skin: drawing moisture from the environment into hair to help replenish and hydrate. -
How to wear white eyeliner: 3 Beauty Panel tips for bringing back this ’90s trend
Ah, white eyeliner! If you came of age in the mid-’90s, white eyeliner was basically the only makeup necessary. While we may have layered it on in a thick, not-quite-cat-eye swipe with little interest in technique or precision, white eyeliner was popular because it’s really so forgiving. No matter how you use it, white liner or shadow is guaranteed to make your eyes pop. Which is precisely why it appeared on so many runways at the Spring 2014 shows. From a soft wash of all-over white at Altuzarra to graphic lines at Kate Spade to BCBG’s romantic white cat-eye, it’s clear this makeup trend is back and better than ever. And our Beauty Panel certainly agrees!
