We talk Britney and Bowie with It girl and M.A.C. Viva Glam Fashion Cares performer Sky Ferreira
“It’s a blessing and a curse,” Sky Ferreira opines about the conflicting aspects of her sound, a duality in tastes that has seen her through gritty Debbie Harry–esque melodies to raw Jon Brion–produced ballads. The 19-year-old singer is a bit of a dichotomy herself: she will unabashedly profess her adoration for Britney Spears in the same breath as her love for David Bowie, and makes no apologies for being tricky to label.

Dispatch from Versailles: Check out our top 25 looks (we had trouble choosing) from Chanel’s Marie Antoinette-meets-punk Cruise collection
Crunch, crunch, crunch. The sound of platform sneakers on pea gravel signalled the start of the Chanel Resort 2013 show, with models emerging from a wall of greenery in the sprawling parterre garden of Versailles. A convoy of 300 black cars had chauffeured press and clients from Paris to the former home of Marie Antoinette for the event, which included a punk performance with Alice Dellal thrashing away on drums. The collection had many nods to the past: 18th century panniers, decorative stomachers and frilled sleeves, and cropped court wigs over ribbon-tied ponytails, all blended with cropped jackets and knickers in sugary pastels. Tilda Swinton, Vanessa Paradis and Inès de la Fressange mingled afterwards in a hot house with Lagerfeld, who was laden with jewellery including a delicate emerald pin. Emeralds and punk? Marie Antoinette and Coco Chanel? Quintessential Lagerfeld-style mash-ups.

Adele vs Lady Sybil, Katy Perry vs Viola Davis! Which award show red carpet had better gowns: The BAFTAs or the Grammys?
Two award shows in one night means double the red-carpet fun! And despite the ocean between the BAFTAs in London and the Grammys in L.A., celebrities worked the carpet in some similar frocks (including an eco gown by Valentino!) But who did five red-carpet trends (think: chic minimalism and cotton candy brights) best—the musical mavens or their actor counterparts? You be the judge!

Oh, how we love red carpet season. It seems that weekly, we’re showered with stunning photos of Hollywood’s A-List showing off like it’s nobody’s business. (Well, actually, it is our business.) At last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, it seemed that this year’s nominees and stars were channeling their onscreen roles, with Michelle Williams in a va-va-voom lace Valentino, Shailene Woodley in a Hawaiian-esque floral-print L’wren Scott, and Emma Stone in a retro-shaped Alexander McQueen cocktail number. So, who wore it best? Check out our top 8 and vote for your favourite.

Meryl! Rooney! Michelle! We dress our favourite Oscar nominees in the best dresses from the Pre-Fall and Couture collections
It’s that time again! Oscar has spoken, and the nominations are in. Although we would’ve liked to see Tilda Swinton, Elizabeth Olsen, Kirsten Dunst, Shailene Woodley, and Charlize Theron be part of the Best Actress hoopla, it’s probably on Meryl lock anyway. We combed the Pre-Fall collections (with one couture exception) and plucked the gowns we think Oscar’s Best Actress nominees should consider for February 26. Let the countdown begin!

TIFF 2011: We teach you how to create the drinks that the celebs have been sipping while hobnobbing at the Grey Goose Soho House
One of TIFF’s most guarded secret spots is the Grey Goose Soho House. Its location has been more or less kept hush-hush throughout the festival, and that’s why it’s probably been such a popular joint for celebs, including Ryan Gosling, Keira Knightley, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Olivia Wilde, and the list goes and on (and on).
For the first time we’d seen the venue during daylight hours, we stopped by on Saturday to check it out and chat with Grey Goose global brand ambassador Dimi Lezinska, the man in charge of creating Soho House’s cocktail menu. While all manner of good-looking stars come through Soho House, we could easily see patrons being more interested in catching Lezinska’s eye, and not because they needed to get a drink. The Frenchman is charming and handsome, which itself is the best cocktail. Lezinska has been with Grey Goose for six years and has created cocktails for soirees from the Oscars in Los Angeles to the Cannes Film Festival.
Lezinska created the menu for TIFF about three months in advance, and he says when planning he tries to incorporate flavours and ingredients that reflect the location of the event. Experimenting with all of these ingredients and creating signature cocktails sounds rather scientific, but Lezinska makes it sound like more than pouring the right mix: “It’s not a science—it’s an alchemy.” We think he’s struck gold.

TIFF partysphere: Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Evan Rachel Wood, and Mark Wahlberg were all hanging out together at the Soho House last night
Amongst the many (many) velvet ropes of TIFF, the ones that you’ll most want to get past are the ones guarding the Grey Goose Soho House. Held at an undisclosed location (we would tell you, but that would probably mean that they wouldn’t let us back), the ultra-private bar, with its specialty cocktails (more on that later), its mishmash of expensive-looking antique furniture, and its teeny-tiny DJ booth, is going to be home to some of the most exclusive parties of the week. Last night, the megawatt cast from Ides of March—ahem, Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Evan Rachel Wood, Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman—and We Need to Talk About Kevin—ahem, Tilda Swinton—held court. Plus, Mark Wahlberg made drinks! Later, it was reported that Alexander Skarsgård was there, though until we see him with our own eyes, attempt to kidnap him, and then get arrested, we won’t be satisfied.

FASHION plates: Dress for TIFF 4 ways with help from these red carpet stars
We’ve given you the etiquette guide on how to snag the best seats in town, whether it be the steam room at Stillwater or beside Ryan Gosling (swoon!) at a Queen West watering hole, but now it’s time for us to show you how to really get his attention: by looking good, ladies. Taking our cue from some of TIFF’s most beautiful women, here are the four ways we’d most like to wow the industry (and boyishly good-looking) crowd.
