A beginner’s guide to going Vegan
By now, we’ve all settled down after Beyoncé teased us with her “big news.” As it turns out, she wasn’t announcing a new album or tour; she was simply informing us that she was vegan (again)—for 22 days. Let’s try to move past this disappointment and take away something positive from Queen Bey’s nutrition move. A […]

Finally, something you CAN wear to support PETA
Not only is being vegan the diet du jour for what feels like most of Instagram these days (thank you, Beyoncé), but it’s also been on our trend radars for the past few seasons. The common perception of vegan fashion is that it’s more about what you can’t wear vs. what you can, but there […]

Lush takes retail therapy to the next level with a debut makeup collection that taps into your subconscious
If shopping is your mood booster of choice, listen up: Lush’s highly anticipated, two-years-in-the-making colour collection is taking retail therapy one step further. The forthcoming “Emotional Brilliance” makeup collection was created with a strategic behavioural therapist, resulting in a product line that’s named to reflect psychological needs.
The collection, which will boast 13 liquid lip colours, 11 liquid eyeliners and six cream eyeshadows (all priced at $23—way cheaper than most therapists’ going rate), is described as a way to “fulfill an emotional need at any give moment.”

Afternoon beauty fix: Your skincare routine can also be vegan-friendly and gluten-free
I’ve made a dietary transition from vegetarian to vegan, and now my cosmetic consumption needs to follow suit. I need to find a cream that’s animal by-product free—got any guidelines? Creams are generally constructed by two things: oil and an aqueous liquid, like water. For a very long time it was common for cosmetic giants […]

Morrissey and Stella McCartney design vegan footwear
Famed egomaniac and ex-Smith’s frontman Morrissey is collaborating with Stella McCartney on a shoe collection. The drama king is as equally animal-friendly (but far more outspoken) as McCartney—so it only seems appropriate that the two Brits would bond over the need for a leather-free shoe line.

Sugar-free dessert: Yes, it can be done (deliciously)
One of my favourite things about New York is that whatever your particular dietary preference or challenge, you can find a stylish restaurant, bakery and brunch spot, at the very least, that seems designed for you alone. On a recent visit, I found Babycakes NYC. This sweetly stylish vegan, gluten-, dairy- and refined sugar-free bakery (beloved by Natalie Portman and Zooey Deschanel) serves up light, fluffy, moist cupcakes, cookie sandwiches, brownies and macaroons. For a person who has long forsaken the joys of a chocolate cupcake with creamy vanilla frosting (not me, I’ll confess, but my fellow), it’s quite a revelation.
Unfortunately, the bakery won’t deliver to Canada (something about frosting melting in the customs line), but now its founder, Erin McKenna, has shared her secrets in a recipe book (Clarkson Potter, $28)!
