Thanks to the likes of Phoebe Philo, Isabel Marant and of course, Yeezy, sneakers have been on a fashion upswing for the past few years. No longer just functional, they’ve risen to the top of the heap with the stylish equivalent of bells and whistles: heels, studs, snakeskin and more. Fashion’s sneaker foray has also brought forth some seriously genius high-low collaborations, including Maison Martin Margiela x Converse, Riccardo Tisci x Nike and most recently Versace for Superga. No longer just for high schoolers, the backpack has undergone full fashion resurgence over the past few seasons. From Singapore to New York, in just a few short weeks the new Resort 2014 collections have taken us from one side of the planet to the other. So far, the collections are getting us excited for those fictitious rising temperatures designers seem to believe exist in January.

Both Tory Burch and Moschino’s Cheap and Chic lines kept things above-the-knee, offering a selection of short shorts and playful minis. Burch’s Moroccan influenced collection featured an exotic array of colourful vacation-ready prints while Moschino Cheap and Chic amped up the fun factor with floral prints and tie-dyes. On the runway at Christian Dior an equally flashy collection featured florals, lace and ladylike silhouettes not to mention intense colour blocking.

London-based designer, J.W. Anderson, is having a pretty solid week. It started with winning the Emerging Designer Award at the 2012 British Fashion Awards and today it was announced that Anderson will be the first to design a capsule collection for Versace’s younger brand, Versus.

The collection will be released at a preview event sometime in the spring and will be comprised of women’s and men’s ready-to-wear as well as accessories that will be sold online at Versace.it and in major department stores worldwide.

Just weeks after news broke that Nicholas Ghesquière was leaving Balenciaga, Christopher Kane is doing the same with his role at Versus.

While busy designing his namesake line, Christopher Kane has been working at the helm of Versus, alongside Donatella Versace for the past six years. Today, the label announced a mutual separation agreement. Versus plans to slow down the production of its seasonal collections and focus more on the digital aspect of the brand, with Donatella Versace designing the label with help from young designers and stylists.

About his departure from Versus, Kane said, “the time has come to dedicate all my focus to the future of the Christopher Kane label.” Or could he mean Balenciaga?

For two full seasons, Guido Palau made an indelible mark on the backstage beauty game by dyeing models’ hair a frothy colour often described as “Balenciaga blonde” because of its prevalence on Nicolas Ghesquière’s runway. But last September in Paris, the Redken creative consultant shocked the show-going set with some black magic—make that brown magic—by taking a previously platinum Kasia Struss to a warm shade of chocolate. “She just looks tougher with brown hair,” he said at the time.

Following her back-to-back showstopper appearances at Cannes, Diane Kruger has now officially proven that she is physically incapable of looking anything short of perfect.
