Photo shoot: Think outside the box this spring by mixing black with pastels and acid hues
Should your hair match your heels? Yes, if they are colour-blocked in the season’s brights. But what goes in-between? Architectural angles with chunks of light and dark.

Quotable: Raf Simons is “leaving Milan tomorrow, forever”
The Raf Simons rumour mill continues to turn, as WWD‘s Bridget Foley divulges that the designer was “unceremoniously dumped” to make way for founder Jil Sander’s return. Given how responsible Simons was for the brand’s recent success and return to importance, it seems, well, offensive that this could even be the case. But how did […]

MFW diary: Our cheat sheet of highlights from a Sunday full of Marni, Dolce Gabbana, Salvatore Ferragamo, Aquilano.Rimondi, and Versus
Sunday may be a day of rest for some, but here in Milan the pace is fast and furious (no time for even a gelato stop!). In a jam-packed day of shows, here are the highlights:
Marni: We saw naïve and childlike daisy prints, ice cream colours, and a new silhouette for Consuelo Castiglioni that focused on a fitted waist and dramatic A-line shapes; that, plus the craftiness we’ve come to expect each season—the embroidery, raffia, crochet, patent, bright trim on spectator bags and shoes—and more geometric prints than high school math class. Oh, and the most drool-worthy earrings of the week.

MFW diary: Milan at its best at Dolce & Gabbana, Aquilano Rimondi, Versus and Salvatore Ferragamo
Dolce & Gabbana is about to begin. This is one show I never mind waiting for. And why would I? The seats in the Metropol theatre are cushy-comfy and actually have backs (YES!) There’s plenty to keep you entertained⎯from the waiter plying you with pizza and red wine at your seat, to the video scenes of backstage primping, people arriving, and front-row eds gossiping in their seats that is looped and playing overhead. Any moment, the theatre will go dark and like clockwork, my favourite, “Cavalleria Rusticana” will swell on the sound system and, from what I can see from the backstage video, fall will be another colossal hit for this dynamic duo. So far, from the monitor above me, I spy enormous star earrings, lace, and glitter galore! Sequins mix with fur and there’s a gender-bending mix of masculine/feminine… feels like classic Dolce to me!

Spring 2011 preview: What we loved at Milan Fashion Week
EVERYONE WAS TALKING ABOUT…
Optimistic bright, blasting colour; Miuccia’s “minimal baroque” collection for Prada; the fact that Milan is back on top; and, of course, where to go for dinner! -
Celeb vote: Leighton Meester rocks and LBD. Is it a classic do or a don’t?
Leighton Meester wore a pleated velvet Versus dress with Pierre Hardy Circle platform sandals in Madrid at a Herbal Essence photocall. What do you think of Meester’s ode to the LBD? Vote after the jump.

Fashion news: A pregnant Miranda Kerr walks at Balenciaga, a Courtney Love cartoon, and Giles preps for Ungaro debut
A five-months-pregnant Miranda Kerr walked in the Balenciaga Spring 2011 show in Paris this morning. Designer Nicholas Ghesquière also cast Stella Tennant, Amber Valetta and some unknown streeters. [Styleite]
Giles Deacon has opted to skip the runway in favour of a daisy-shaped podium to present his first collection for Emanuel Ungaro. Also ix-nayed for the presentation: “brash” colours. [WWD]

Dispatch from Milan: A lacy affair at Dolce & Gabbana, plus schoolgirls at Versus, short-sleeve dresses and more
Yank your grandma’s white linen tablecloths off the table! If Dolce & Gabbana have their way, spring will be a lacy white affair with doilies, curtains and table linens doing double duty as pretty, feminine dresses, bloomers, corsets, lady suits and babydolls. The dynamic duo did their favorite silhouettes all in “bianco” lace, embroidery and broderie anglaise. With only a few soft floral prints, a smidge of black lace and some signature leopard prints thrown in the mix, the collection was almost singularly one note–and a clean, fresh and a fabulously feminine, one at that.

Dispatches from Milan: A kerfuffle at Cavalli, ’70s glam at Gucci, bell bottoms at Pucci and more
Okay, while there’s a big kerfuffle going on at Roberto Cavalli (I ‘m hearing it’s over Lindsay Lohan, and Courtney Love) let me take a minute and think way back to see if I can possibly absorb all I’ve seen today and yesterday. Since I last blogged, I’ve been to showrooms, presentations and shows too numerous to list. Here are some highlights:
