Gwyneth Paltrow vs. Kate Moss: who was best dressed at British Fashion Awards 2013?
See the British Fashion Awards 2013 red carpet »
Last night, Britain’s most fashionably influential took over the London Coliseum for the British Fashion Awards 2013. A red carpet of elite wearing elite can only be expected at such an affair, but Kate Moss and Gwyneth Paltrow’s looks got our style radar beeping.
The ageless Moss, who was honoured with the Special Recognition award for 25 years in the industry, wore a Spring 2014 Alexander McQueen leather dress with a fur coat. The perforated effect and pleats added texture to the look that was accessorized with a studded clutch, red pout and black Louboutin heels.
Making an appearance to present the International Designer of the Year honour to Miuccia Prada, it’s no surprise that Paltrow chose from the designer’s collection. The dress, a plum and soft pink bodice with a black pleated skirt, was paired with strappy sandals that added to her signature long legs. Side-parted pin straight hair and a rosy lip made for her low-key beauty look.

Manolo Blahnik to be honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award at next week’s British Fashion Awards

After an almost 40-year career in fashion, Manolo Blahnik is set to receive a special award from the British Fashion Council next week.
The highly influential footwear designer will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award at this year’s British Fashion Awards to be held next Tuesday, November 27. The award, which is the most significant of the evening, recognizes a designer who throughout their career has made an important impact on the fashion industry around the world. In the past, the award— voted for by a panel of leading industry journalists and retailers—has previously been given to the likes of Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood.
About receiving the award Blahnik said, “To be recognized for doing something I love is really wonderful.”
Manolo Blahnik is definitely no stranger to award and acclaim. At the British Fashion Awards, he has been named Accessory Designer of the Year three times throughout his career, and in 2007 was awarded the prestigious title of Commander of the British Empire for his work in the British fashion industry. His work was also recognized by the Design Museum in London with a 2003 retrospective of his work and numerous sketches that he uses to begin his design process.
His influence and signature aesthetic have made his shoes one of the most sought after brands in the world, and have been worn by everyone from Michelle Obama to Rihanna, and were of course famously favoured by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. Blahnik’s shoes have been commonly recognized in the fashion world by first name only—“Manolos”—which has made his name synonymous with high-end footwear and luxury around the world for decades.

Vote! Who takes the cake for best dressed designer/muse duo at the British Fashion Awards?
Some of our favourite fashion talents were celebrated last night at the 2011 British Fashion Awards in London, with Sarah Burton, Mary Katrantzou, and Charlotte Olympia (to name a few) coming out on top in their respective categories. As always, what everyone was wearing was equally top of our minds, and we’ve especially enjoyed these neat little red carpet photo combos of megawatt designer avec megawatt muse (or muse-come-designer in Victoria Beckham’s case). In one corner, we’ve got the bright-young-thing duo of Christopher Kane and Alexa Chung donning a look from his Spring 2012 collection, and with Charlotte Olympia kitten heels. In the other, you’ve got the black-on-black pairing of Marc Jacobs and Beckham in her own design (may we just say, Vicky’s looking less extreme than usual, and we like it) The always-cool McCartney and Moss duo triumph with Stella in a sexy-tomboy suit and Kate in all-over fishnet. So, who takes the cake for the best dressed duo?

Alexa Chung and Rachel Weisz’s new hairstyles are not bang on
Vote and tell us what you think! »
Alexa Chung and Rachel Weisz both showed off new hair this week: loose, piece-y bangs that hit below the brow line. Frankly, we’re not sure if the look works for either. While Chung is usually the queen of turning casualwear into pretty and polished, she looked rather frazzled at the 2011 British Fashion Awards. (However, she still won the British Style Award!) Actually, Chung’s makeup artist should take some of the blame. While “no makeup” is on trend, it still requires a solid base—by the end of the night, Chung’s dewy skin just looked washed out. And with the new messy bangs hiding her eyebrows, the rest of her features seem to fade away.

Red carpet round-up: Plenty of quirk and black dresses at the British Fashion Awards
The British Fashion Awards were handed out last night at the Savoy in London. (Check out the winners here.) The red carpet scene was one of the more enjoyable we’ve seen in a while–even the sea of black dresses gave us something interesting. Standouts were Alexa Chung, who paired prim Chanel with a biker jacket, and Lara Stone doing her best Diane Kruger in a minimalist Calvin Klein sheath. See the rest of the red carpet–with Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon, Thandie Newton, Daphne Guinness and more, after the jump.
