Florals and Family: The Influences That Shaped Erdem’s New Makeup Collab With Nars
“I’m not the best gardener,” confesses Erdem Moralioglu. It’s an ironic admission for the Montreal-born, London-based fashion designer for whom florals are a recurring theme. (He is trying, though: He mentions that he just returned from Holland, where he bought some tulips.) Carnations, irises, poppies and, his favourite, anemones, have all figured at one time […]

See Baz Luhrman’s New Fashion Film For ERDEM x H&M
H&M in many ways put the ‘X’ in fashion collaboration. Their past partnerships with Karl Lagerfeld, Isabel Marant and Balmain (to name a few) brought designer threads to a mass audience while sparking the odd riot at its now legendary pre-shops. This year we were pleasantly surprised to learn Canadian-raised, London-based designer Erdem would bring […]

Gwyneth Paltrow vs. Kate Moss: who was best dressed at British Fashion Awards 2013?
See the British Fashion Awards 2013 red carpet »
Last night, Britain’s most fashionably influential took over the London Coliseum for the British Fashion Awards 2013. A red carpet of elite wearing elite can only be expected at such an affair, but Kate Moss and Gwyneth Paltrow’s looks got our style radar beeping.
The ageless Moss, who was honoured with the Special Recognition award for 25 years in the industry, wore a Spring 2014 Alexander McQueen leather dress with a fur coat. The perforated effect and pleats added texture to the look that was accessorized with a studded clutch, red pout and black Louboutin heels.
Making an appearance to present the International Designer of the Year honour to Miuccia Prada, it’s no surprise that Paltrow chose from the designer’s collection. The dress, a plum and soft pink bodice with a black pleated skirt, was paired with strappy sandals that added to her signature long legs. Side-parted pin straight hair and a rosy lip made for her low-key beauty look.

Inside Vancouver’s all-star The Room opening with Jessica Stam, Brian Atwood, Erdem, and Alexandra Richards
A black carpet, sprinkled with male models in white tuxes, beckoned guests to the second floor of the Bay Downtown Vancouver for the Thursday night grand opening of The Room, the department store’s second den of high fashion. Erdem Moralioglu and Brian Atwood—both on their first visit to Vancouver—Jason Matlo, Monika Deol, and Jessica Stam (to name a few) were among the crowd of well-dressed revellers air kissing, clinking glasses, and noshing on Hawksworth Restaurant–made canapés.

Q&A: 5 minutes with Erdem
Known for his beautiful abstract printed pieces, London-based, Montreal-born designer Erdem Moralioglu has achieved international fashion stardom in just five years. (He counts Tinseltown A-listers like Ashley Olsen and Keira Knightley among his many fans.) Here, Moralioglu talks fall essentials and texture messages.
How would you describe the Erdem woman?
“Strong, confident and beautiful.”What are the must-have pieces for fall 2011?
“Our fitted Devan dress, which is supersexy. Wear it with our oversized boyfriend cable-knit jumper over your shoulders, in case you get chilly.” -
LFW diary: Revolution is in the air at Peter Pilotto, Erdem and Todd Lynn
Fashion week hazard: Getting caught up in the moment, suddenly realizing you have no idea what’s going on with Libya. Insiders say fashion week looks glamorous but the reality is: there is no reality here.
So it was strange, in a good way, to read Peter Pilotto‘s show notes on revolts past (the Russian Revolution, the Paris Riots of ’68) and present (Egypt). Pilotto and partner Christopher De Vos promised to translate these into “seditious shirting details.” Forgive my skepticism.
