NYFW diary: Peppiness and preppiness at Diane Von Furstenberg and Tommy Hilfiger
Left: DVF shot by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images. Right: Tommy Hilfiger shot by Peter Michael Dills/Stringer The King and Queen of New York fashion, Tommy Hilfiger and Diane Von Furstenberg, took to the stage on Sunday at the Lincoln Center, addressing the fashion kingdom with pops of prep, and a bold colour palette of brights. What started off as a simple collection of sheer, crinkled cotton whites at DVF quickly transformed into vibrant geometric prints of turquoise and purple, uber-embellished pastels, and silky pyjama-like pieces in the bold patterns we’ve come to expect and adore from Furstenberg. My favourite moment of the show, however, came as Diane took her bow, walking the runway to Nina Simone‘s “Feeling Good,” and showering the crowd with mini American flags, reminding everyone that her favourite colours are red, white, and blue.

NYFW diary: Anna! Stella! Diane! Our recap of the Fashion’s Night Out madness!
Singer Estelle and designer Diane von Furstenberg shot by C. Madden While TIFF-goers will be clambering to get a glimpse of Brad Pitt at tonight’s Moneyball premiere, nothing could compare to last night’s flashing of bulbs and girlish screams that echoed throughout NYC for Fashion’s Night Out. I spotted Diane von Furstenberg addressing the crowd at her meatpacking store in Pope-like style, arms waving soothingly at her fans. Later in the night as Anna Wintour made her appearance (a show-dog circle and then, poof, she was gone!) outside Pastis where I was noshing on late-night frites, a parade of fashion followers braved her bodyguards and the cobblestone streets in six-inch stilettos, chasing after their fashion god for just a glimpse. At Stella McCartney‘s downtown store the crowd was smokin’ hot, and I’m not talking about their looks. A broken air conditioner had guests passing the Perrier like it was crack.

They said/We said: We weigh in on designers banning of underage models from walking during fashion week
Photography by Peter Stigter By Bianca Teixeira
Ahem, pre-teens and teens, there’s one more place where you’re going to have to worry about getting carded: the runway. Fifteen and younger need not apply.
CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg has sent letters to her fellow designers asking them to demand a valid ID from every model walking in their shows to verify their age. Von Furstenberg was embarrassed last season after making a stink about only employing healthy 16-year-olds and then sending a 15-year-old Hailey Clauson down her own runway.
Two years ago, Michael Kors announced that he was not going to be hiring any models under 16. In a recent interview for the new issue of Interview Magazine, though, he mentions that a few models might have deceived him by lying about their age. Might not be much of a stretch, as agents have been known to fib about a model’s stats when it comes to their age, height, or weight.
With weigh-ins and measurement-taking at shows gaining in popularity to help prevent eating disorders, Von Furstenberg is hoping to set a new precedent with carding models as well.

They said/We said: Kate Moss set to marry rock star fiancé tomorrow in the biggest wedding since the other Kate’s
Photography by Neil Mockford/Stringer Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’d have heard that Kate Moss is set to marry her rock star fiancé, Jamie Hince, tomorrow. In true Moss style, the wedding is sure to break the mould for celebrity weddings. It’s being described as a three-day extravaganza of music, A-list guests, and unparalleled celebrations—and that’s probably an understatement.
Nicknamed “Mosstock” by the tabloids, the wedding’s musical entertainment is to be provided by Snoop Dogg, Carl Barat, Beth Ditto, Iggy Pop, and Dame Shirley Bassey. As if that stage couldn’t get any more entertaining, it’s likely the supermodel herself will serve up some amateur karaoke.
It’s rumoured that close friend John Galliano will design the bride’s gown. As Moss is always one for a well-placed scandal, it’s more or less expected. Recently, the designer’s whereabouts have been unknown, but rumours have been circling that he’s been in New York working on the dress.
Guests are not permitted to bring cameras (or snap photos with their smart phones) as the wedding will be professionally documented by none other than Mario Testino. To top it all off, one of the shots will be featured on the cover of Vogue’s September issue. Mosstock sounds like the be-all-and-end-all to weddings everywhere, but the couple did sign a pre-nuptial agreement. That could appear to foreshadow a grim ending, but who would really be opposed to a second Moss wedding in the future?
