TFW Diary: Lundström Collection presents a solid, but overstyled nine-to-five offering for fall
View the full collection »
See all Toronto Fashion Week coverage »When it comes to nine-to-five staples, working girls looking to hit refresh on their wardrobes this fall should turn to Lundström Collection. Strip away all of the unnecessary extras (bejeweled headbands, grosgrain ribbon belts, elbow-length gloves and a bounty of blinged things) and you’ll find office-appropriate pieces that will look sharp in the boardroom and beyond: boucle frocks, wool swing coats, nubby tweed jackets, jacquard skirt suits and twill riding trousers. As much as we adore Anzie jewellery (they provided the runway sparkle) we would have preferred to see these lovely baubles take the spotlight in a separate presentation. Ditto for the haute headbands. Whether you’re coveting the corner office or have your nameplate on the door, effortless chic triumphs over styled any day of the week.

TFW diary: Great Canadian staples at Lundström
Perhaps the designers were crafting their collections while staring out their studio windows into the snowy landscape of the last few months, but this seems to be the week of great Canadian outerwear. And from a brand known for their iconic parka, we would expect no less. At last night’s Lundström Collection, that very parka⎯done up in ivory with a fur-trimmed hood and paired with a tone-on-tone ribbed woolen dress⎯hit the right note on the sophistication scale. Coloured fur collars, sleeves and scarves were a welcome addition to the repertoire, especially a tres trendy grape stole. The major blip on an otherwise ladylike radar (skirt suits, metallic-flecked tweeds and bathrobe shapes a-plenty) were the velvet kaleidoscopic pants. A parade of Audrey-approved little black dresses, including a couple of special order gowns (a first I believe for the collection), closed the show but opened the door to a world beyond cold winter wear.

Toronto Fashion Week: Lundström Collection delivers a pared-down, polished show
After Linda Lundström left Eleventh Floor Apparel, her label’s financial backer, to start a consulting business, EFA decided to carry on using her name under Lundström Collection (designed by an in-house team). It was a smart business move. Why? After seeing the 39 looks (there were five additional Lundström label coats designed by the LaParka originator herself, before leaving EFA) that graced the runway last night, one word came to mind: Fresh. From the chic monochromatic palettes (grey! camel! black!) to the retro-inspired toppers (love the bracelet length sleeves) and matching pencil skirts, Lundström Collection delivered the goods in a very pared-down, polished way. Among our favourite looks were the mohair wrap coats, a short swing jacket and slim pant combo, a military-inspired navy pea coat and a cream-coloured cable-knit cape. If there was a weak link in this line-up, it would be the colourful swirl print pieces, but the show’s final look–a gorgeous jet-black silk velvet column gown–definitely made up for it in Ralph Lauren-esque way.
