Halloween has snuck up on me and I’m still without a costume. Have any recommendations for a girl with no time to spare? Thrift stores may be picked over, but beauty counters are still stocked full of vivid red lipstick, electric blue eyeliner, and sometimes-garish glittery eye shadow. Your costume options are endless when your […]

View our studio invasion »Is there a better inspiration than Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra? We thought not, until Arthur Mendonça set the vision for beauty at his Spring 2012 show: Cleopatra emerging from water. Eddie Malter, official makeup artist for L’Oreal Paris, used H.I.P. High Intensity Pigment Eyeshadow Duos “224” and “207,” blending layers of blue, turquoise, and silver to achieve the effect of water reflecting on the face—a look certainly worthy of modern Egyptian goddesses. Brows were left natural and lips subtle, done in a beige Infallible Le Rouge lip colour (“814”) and covered with gloss.

They said/We said: The scoop on Carine Roitfeld’s upcoming 72-page ode to Elizabeth Taylor
Though it’s only been seven months since the all-powerful Carine Roitfeld left her post as the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, we feel like we’ve been suffering from Roitfeld withdrawal for ages. On the upside, it looks like we’re going to get our fix in the near future. News officially broke that Roitfeld will be styling an Elizabeth Taylor–themed spread for V Magazine’s September Heroes Issue.
Between her freelance projects for Chanel, Barneys and W magazine, Roitfeld will be working with Mario Testino on the Taylor project. The feature, which is better described as a “fashion extravaganza,” will be a whopping 72 pages. Looks like she’s planning to make up for lost time.
The spread is sure to be a great precursor to Christie’s public exhibition of the Collection of Elizabeth Taylor in December. We can’t help but wonder if Roitfeld will manage to get her hands on some of Taylor’s prized possessions before they are put on display. What we do know is that, either way, these 72 pages are going to be Giant.

SNP’s word of the day: Man-acle
Word: Man-acle
Definition: One who makes slaves of men; serial heart-stealer; divorce queen. Okay, I semi-made it up from the word for handcuffs, manacle. P.S. I definitely do not mean ball and chain; gross.

They said/We said: Elizabeth Taylor’s legendary jewels to go up for auction
Who hasn’t dreamt of living the luxuriously fashionable life of Hollywood grand dame Elizabeth Taylor? From Cleopatra to Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Taylor dominated the big screen and captured the hearts of her stylish followers. Today, Christie’s officially announced they’ll be launching a landmark series of public exhibitions to display Taylor’s jewelry, fashion, accessories, decorative arts, and memorabilia that will eventually end with their sale.
Beginning in September, the collection will make stops in Moscow, London, Los Angeles, Dubai, Geneva, Paris, and Hong Kong. It’s then set to head to New York City for December 3, where a 10-day exhibition at Rockefeller Center will be followed by four consecutive days of auctions. In keeping with Taylor’s life-long devotion to humanitarian causes, a portion of all proceeds will be donated to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, which she established in 1991.
Now, who isn’t looking forward to the glamorous-to-end-all-things-glamorous exhibit?

Liz! Marilyn! Twiggy! Peep your favourites in some of the most iconic images ever shot
Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton have hailed upon Toronto. No, not the real gals, but rather, some of the most iconic and unique images of the starlets and models. Jewels, the new exhibit of famed ’60s photographer Bert Stern, is currently on show at the IZZY GALLERY (on until July 9, 106 Yorkville Ave., 416-922-1666). It takes a peek into the legendary photographer’s career, including the last images ever shot of Monroe and those shot on the set of Stanley Kubrick’s Lolita.

Get lashes like the Kardashians and then some
Even without sitting through an entire episode of “Keeping up with the Kardashians,” we bet you could guess which (above the waist) assets have helped the three sisters rise to fame: their thick, luscious and enormous eyelashes, of course. Lash extensions have been popular in doe-eyed loving countries, like Korea, for decades but they’re a recent and rising craze in North America thanks to lash-wearers, like the Kardashians and other red-carpeters. Yonette Joris, the founder of Winks Eyelash Boutique in Toronto, cites the sisters as the top requested sets to mimic, though we can’t help but assume that Elizabeth Taylor’s famed “double-set” lashes will climb in popularity after her passing last week.

R.I.P. Elizabeth Taylor, the most beautiful woman in history
Hollywood has lost the last of its greats. Elizabeth Taylor, who died this morning at the age of 79, was legendary for many things, amongst them: her unparalleled beauty, her penchant for marriage (Liz was married eight times to seven husbands, twice to Richard Burton) and her uncanny ability to play the tragic boozy, crazy, sexy and vulnerable heroine. In my books, she was as good as its gets. Liz will be remembered for her many iconic roles, including those in Butterfield 8 and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, which she garnered Oscars for. Here’s a look back at my favourite of her roles. If you haven’t seen them… get thee to the movie store right RIGHTNOW! In the meantime, enjoy a bit of a peek into what made this violet-eyed siren one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood history, starting with my all time favourite, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
