Red hair, glitter makeup and the model as muse: 4 beauty trends from New York Fashion Week
Some of New York Fashion Week’s best beauty moments have come from the models themselves—here are the faces that stood out backstage this season.
Seeing Redheads
Redheads always stand out but they’ve been extra visible this week. We saw tomato ketchup-redhead Natalie Westling at Vera Wang, Prabal Gurung, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Marc Jacobs—the 17-year-old skater told us she’d dyed it for the spring Marc Jacobs campaign, which she appears in alongside Miley Cyrus. (The red was covered up at the actual Marc Jacobs show, though, under one of the pale, “off-colour” wigs dyed to resemble an “old-lady rinse” by colourist Victoria Hunter of Whittemore Salon in New York, and cut by Guido Palau). -
Street Style, New York: A blizzard can’t keep fashionable attendees (including Jared Leto!) from the Fall 2014 shows
Just when we thought the weather couldn’t get any worse! After a week of chilly temps but not much snow, Snowstorm Pax brought its arctic fury to the streets of Manhattan for the last day of New York Fashion Week. The scene outside the Fall 2014 shows was one of attendees bundled up from head to toe, so it was fitting then that most of the shows yesterday—J. Mendel, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren all included—sent out strong furry looks, perfect for braving the snow. If our recent season of snowstorms is looking to become a reoccurring trend, we will be needing a whole lot of fur come this time next year.
Given the veritable blizzard going on, hats were the necessary accessory du jour. Miroslava Duma and Nasiba Adilova channelled their native land looking like life-sized Russian nesting dolls, each with their embroidered scarf as headgear. André Leon Talley was even sporting a toque and burgundy snakeskin gloves to stop the cold – you know it’s serious when the King of Fabulousness goes practical. But there was no hat worthy of crowing Jared Leto’s expertly ombré-d head – nothing can stop those luscious locks. Not even a havoc-inducing blizzard.

Street Style, New York: 46 photos of iridescent accessories, animal prints and neon sneakers at the Fall 2014 shows
See the street style looks here »
With New York Fashion Week coming to a close, we’re sure attendees are already looking forward to
greenerwarmer pastures. (After London, that is!) But editors and bloggers didn’t let the exhausting week and chilly temps slow them down, as you’ll see in today’s batch of street style photos. Mixing graphic accessories and sneakers, stylish show goers kept things fun and bright with statement pastels and playful accessories.Preetma Singh and Anna Dello Russo kept the week’s fur trend alive, but livened it up with mismatched prints and textures. Giovanna Battaglia and several off–duty models, Soo Joo Park included, channelled Monster’s Inc. with Sully-like tufted fur coats and graphic cartoon character bags. Miroslava Duma and Leandra Medine both went for animal print outerwear while Perez Hilton (sure, why not?) showed his patriotic side in a graphic stars and stripes outfit. We prefer the Hudson’s Bay blanket coat we spotted, but that might just be our Canadian loyalty showing through.

Blake Lively vs. Rose Byrne: Who wore Michael Kors best in the front row?
See the front row looks up close »
While New York show-goers may be all bundled up, the stars sitting in the front row are sporting some stellar spring looks. This morning Rose Byrne and Blake Lively held court front row at the Michael Kors Fall 2014 show, both dressed in designs from the Spring 2014 collection.
Looking like a statuesque goddess—as is her nature—Blake Lively arrived at the Michael Kors Fall 2014 show dressed in an all-navy outfit from the designer’s spring collection. The ensemble consisted of a navy floral-print skirt with a matching bustier and blazer, cinched with a camel-coloured leather belt. Lively accessorized her look with a pair of neutral studded pumps by Christian Louboutin and two pendant necklaces. (One was a dog paw charm and the other a charm with the letter R, most likely for her hot hubbie Ryan Reynolds.) With her signature flowing blonde hair and that naturally bronzed complexion, Lively sat comfortably in the front row alongside Freida Pinto and the aforementioned Rose Byrne.

Street Style, New York: 50 photos of colourful fur, Team Canada mittens and statement coats at the Fall 2014 shows
It’s been almost a full week of New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 shows and we were beginning to wonder if the fashion elite had any tricks left up their sleeves when it came to cold weather dressing. There are only so many ways you can stay warm and stylish, right? Nope! Today’s batch of street style photos from photographer Stefania Yarhi take outwear to new heights with mixes of colourful fur, dashes of metallic sheen and noteworthy footwear.
Preetma Singh, Eva Chen and several other fashion go-ers showed off panelled fur vests and jackets, all picking up on the colour-blocking trend while staying warm in the process. Warming our hearts, on the other hand, was the abundance of Hudson’s Bay Team Canada mittens spotted on the streets of New York—Olympic spirit is always in style! Alexa Chung looked positively Bowie-esque in a futuristic iridescent coat—while simultaneously keeping it ladylike with a prim purse. Ece Sükan went for an ’80s throwback vibe, mixing a cinched mod leather jacket with a bold gold skirt peeking out from underneath.
