California dreamer: Our cover story with Katy Perry
Photo by Kevin Mazur/WireImage Katy Perry is taking her brand of high-energy, high-camp, high-gloss pop on the road.
By Dennis HensleyVIDEO: The FASHION team discusses the style evolution
of our cover girl Katy Perry »Katy Perry is trying to find a delicate way to describe a nightmare she’s been having lately. She’s singing in front of thousands on her massive California Dreams 2011 World Tour when she suddenly discovers that the audience is getting more of a show than she had intended. “I don’t have part of my costume that I need,” she says cryptically, “so I feel exposed.” We get it, Katy; you’re flashing your fans. She laughs. “And then sometimes I dream that I put on my guitar and I don’t know how to play anymore. It’s like I don’t know how to do anything!” The California-born pastor’s daughter lets out a nervous giggle, then sighs. “I’ve got a lot on my mind.”

FASHION plates: Let’s play ball!
By Randi Bergman and Jordan Porter
Nothing says summer quite like that first day spent at the ballgame: sun on your face, cheering fans, popcorn and hot dogs with all the fixings! This summer, we’ll be carrying that carefree feeling off the field with collegiate chic baseball bombers, classic baseball tees, vintage caps and a whole lot of red and white. We’ll also be wishing we were Geena Davis and/or Madonna in A League of Our Own.

Watch: Sophomore’s spring video starring Chloë Sevigny
Known for her casual-cool clothing label, Sophomore, and her inimitably cool friends, New York-based designer Chrissie Miller just released the video for her spring collection of tees, tanks and cotton separates. Based on Madonna’s classic early ‘90s tour-doc, Truth or Dare, photographer Cass Bird filmed a few of Miller’s closest pals including Chloë Sevigny, Jen Brill and Lesley Arfin playing the game during an evening at the Bowery Hotel in New York. Like the clothes they don in the video, the players are so enviously cool you’ll want to take on a dare or two of your own just to plop on the couch. As for how far Miller herself would go? “In college I was dared to sit on a skateboard down a giant hill! It was so scary but I made it!” she says.

MFW diary: Easy as 123 at Fendi and D&G
Photography by Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images. I was mesmerized by the soundtrack at Fendi yesterday—James Blake’s “Limit to Your Love”—and the collection in turn was just as beautiful as the music. There was a relaxed, easy feeling and a whiff of the English countryside to the felted wool swingy coats, cropped pants, tweedy knit sweat pants, luxe shearlings and furs. Karl Lagerfeld previewed a parade of colour and texture with subtle, sophisticated tones in structured top handle bags and in ribbed wooly tights that contrasted beautifully with block heel mary-janes. Shearlings were turned inside out and trimmed with croc. Melton and felted wool in khakis, ochres, and purples made for some boxy, simple leather trimmed totes and even a ruffle turned up in wool as a detachable jabot on blouses and dresses. Easy, rich and relaxed: just the way I’d like to feel and I’m guessing I’m not the only one.

Fashion news: Kate Moss speaks, Madonna to launch lingerie, and US Airways loses lots of vintage Gucci
It’s always a treat to hear models speak. One who rarely seems to chat for the cameras is Kate Moss, so it’s a double treat to hear her talk about her collaboration with Longchamp, what keeps her grounded and her most poignant fashion moment. [Jezebel]
Yesterday at an event at Macy’s for Lourdes’ Material Girl line her mama Madonna revealed plans to launch a workout and lingerie collection for adults. [WWD]

Fashion news: Grace Coddington is writing a memoir, Marc Jacobs’ grooming routine and did Kate Moss get married?
What’s fringed, flat, studded with stars and costs US$795? It could only be the new Jimmy Choo Uggs. [Racked]
Did Kate Moss secretly marry musician Jamie Hince? The pair have been spotted recently with slim bands on their respective wedding finger, but friends say they’re not hitched yet. [Daily Mail]
Grace Coddington, Vogue’s creative director, is currently penning a memoir, though we’ve already read her book The Catwalk Cats, so we’re not sure what else there is to add. (Kidding! We can’t wait.) [WWD]

Fashion news: McQueen’s last dress, Hilary Duff marries in Vera Wang and Madonna’s Macy’s line has some ‘splainin’ to do
image via tmagazine Though it wasn’t part of Alexander McQueen‘s final collection in Paris last spring, feast your eyes on what may have been the last piece that the late designer touched. The silk swan dress, made for long-time pal Annabelle Neilson is a far cry from the more notorious McQueen pieces she’s worn in the past (a sheer jumpsuit, anyone?). She wore this beauty to Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara Ball in June. [T Magazine]
