SNP’s word of the day: Emo-hop
Word: Emo-hop
Meaning: If you guessed that it’s “hip-hop with emo(tional) lyrics,” you don’t get a prize.
Usage: “Drake has raised his game significantly, cornering the market in emo-hop. There’s few ‘hands in the air’ moments, but instead there’s depth and intelligence here that makes him stand out from the crowd.” — NME.com

Last night, Pier 57 in New York was transformed into “Versace Hall” to launch the much-hyped Versace and H&M collaboration. Models, including the campaign’s star Abbey Lee Kershaw, showed off all the covetable clothes on a runway paved with gold for a celeb-filled audience including Blake Lively, Jessica Alba, Uma Therman, and Chace Crawford. (All were decked out in Versace for H&M, of course!) Even designers Alexander Wang, Christopher Kane, and Joseph Altuzarra showed up, leaving us wondering who wasn’t there?

They said/We said: Nicki Minaj and Prince will be performing at Versace for H&M launch next week
In a merging of all things wonderful, we are thrilled to report that the musical guests at the Versace for H&M launch in New York on Tuesday night will be none other than Nicki Minaj and Prince. The equally flamboyant performers are just a hint of what amazingness we’re in store for, and if H&M’s last blowout fashion show was any indication, we’re in for a three-pronged treat. Seriously. If a duet of “Super Bass” or “Purple Rain” actually happens, we just might explode.

Previously on Fashion’ween: Karl Lagerfeld »We’re dubbing today “Pink Friday” because it’s the last day of our Fashion’ween week and Super Bass songstress Nicki Minaj is our final costume. Known for her extremely eccentric outfits and better-than-the-boys lyrical prowess, it was almost impossible to define a single look for Minaj. (We can’t even decide which one of her wigs is our favourite!) The trick to becoming this superstar is in the combinations: overload on patterns, textures, and colours—and do it all with Minaj’s signature doe-eyed smile.

They said/We said: Arty takes on fashion pop up in several November issues
This month it seems like fashion magazines are turning more and more towards art for inspiration, creating editorials that blur the lines between the two. For Garage magazine photographer Fulvio Bonavia and stylist Giovanna Battaglia, this resulted in creating replicas of dresses from designers Fall 2011 collections—using food. Did you ever think you would see a McQueen dress made entirely of lettuce or a Louis Vuitton dress made of walnuts? Neither did we.
The foodatorial comes just a week after W magazine revealed two covers for their Art and Fashion issue: one, by artist Ai Wei Wei, depicts a model being tackled to the ground and the other, by artist Francesco Vezzoli, features Nicki Minaj as a stately lady complete with grey hair and pearls. Inside the issue are several ad parodies photographed by Steven Meisel. While designers gaining inspiration from art is nothing new, the covers and editorials born out of a fine art muse have been a breath of fresh air.

Overheard at NYFW: Nicki Minaj’s giant fro knocking over a model in front row. Quelle disaster!
Overheard (or seen) at the Prabal Gurung Spring 2012 show: Elettra Wiedemann‘s texting her fiance to say that Nicki Minaj‘s fro was knocking her over in the front row. Ah, the price we pay for a front row seat…

Last night’s MTV Video Music Awards was certainly full of news, from Beyoncé’s big baby reveal to Katy Perry’s four outfit changes to Lady Gaga’s first public appearance as her drag alter ego Joe Calderone, who had previously only been seen on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan last September. Who though, tops the list as the best dressed?

SNP’s word of the day: Pneumatic
Word: Pneumatic
Meaning: Technically, it means filled with air, usually compressed air, like the tubes running throughout George Orwell‘s 1984. But Huxley used it relentlessly to describe a woman whose curves were so ample they seemed inflated; he also used it to describe chairs, but we’ll save that objectification discussion for another day.
