Fashion news: Estrella Archs leaves Ungaro, Vera Wang + David’s Bridal, and Rodarte’s carnival game
The dusty Ungaro drama is far from settling, with the announcement today that Estrella Archs leaving the label. “Estrella Archs announces that she has left her job as chief designer of Emanuel Ungaro due to irreconcilable differences related to the creative direction of the brand,” a spokesperson for the designer confirmed. Anna Wintour spoke at the Pratt Institute last night in a tribute to Irving Penn, and we got a glimpse into the softer side of the Vogue editor-in-chief, calling Penn a “seductive” man who she immediately had “an intellectual crush [on].” She concluded her speech quite emotionally, saying “He made me a better editor. He was always in my head…. Irving’s gifts to us will not end.” [Fashionista]

Model Catherine McNeil and Aussie MTV presenter Ruby Rose are reportedly engaged. Friends tweeted about a commitment ceremony last week (the posts have been taken down) and it’s reported that the pair are looking to have a legal wedding in Canada. [News.au, The Cut]

Head into the woods in fairy tale style
Fall has been filled with camping chic–tweeds, heritage checks and fishing waders–but we’ve also been seeing a more nightmarish take on the woodsy trend. Animal prints, feathers and fur (real and faux) are straight out of Where the Wild Things Are or Into The Woods–the Sondheim musical’s whimsical-yet-eerie look at popular fairytale heroes amidst a haunted backwoods is an ideal avenue for inspiration.

A proposed French law has members of the fashion industry up in arms. The law, which would label manipulated images to help combat eating disorders, is currently backed by 50 politicians. Tony Chambers, editor-in-chief of Wallpaper argues, “These things should always be taken with a pinch of salt. Pamela Love does Wild Things accessories for Opening Ceremony
Director Spike Jonze has teamed up with Opening Ceremony (openingceremony.us) and Pamela Love to launch a line inspired by the upcoming film adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are. Love’s jewellery designs pay homage to all the claws, feathers and playful headpieces from Maurice Sendak’s beloved picture book.

Chloë Sevigny hates thick buttons
Chloë Sevigny will debut her Fall 2009 mens line at end of August at the new Opening Ceremony in Shibuya, Tokyo. The Joe Denardo-directed video promo shows off the line and reveals many Sevigny tidbits. For example, she: “likes to cut and paste,” “hates thick buttons,” and “listens to the shape of music.” [DazedDigital]

How did you pick the pieces that you reproduced for your Betsey Johnson Archive collection?
“Well, I felt that the punk label– you know vintage dealers seem to call it the punk label— it was when we opened from 1978 through about 1990. It was cotton and it had kind of like a Keith Richards-esquey self-photograph of myself on this label, very inexpensive very punky, very, you know, funky because we had very little money. -
