I might not be donning an Oscar gown this weekend, but who says I can’t partake in the bling? I’ll be pairing this baby with some gunmetal chains and a simple tee for an Oscar-watching fete. ($45, lechateau.com)

While the performances of Christian Bale and Melissa Leo are, deservedly so, sweeping the awards circuit and may do so again at the Oscars this Sunday, it’s the hair and makeup achievements of Leo’s Alice Ward and her seven scrappy daughters that I haven’t been able to stop lauding. A study in blue-collar beauty, the big hair and unflattering makeup was absolutely mesmerizing. Obsessed, I tracked down the head of the hair and makeup departments for the film: Johnny Villanueva and Donald Mowat—a Canadian—to grill them on the looks of the real life ladies from Lowell, Massachusetts.

Judging from the swinging, statement-making earrings at Oscar de la Renta’s fall 2011 show, jewellery is back in a big way (cue the Hallelujah chorus).  From Karlie’s ‘40s-inspired beaded tassels to Carmen’s gunmetal and ruby crystals, shoulder duster earrings have swept back onto the style scene this season. Watch for these movers-and-shakers to make a red-carpet appearance at the upcoming Academy Awards.

Following in the steps of Canadian boy Erdem Moralioglu, Christopher Kane was named the winner of the BFC/Vogue UK Fashion Fund, beating out heavyweights like Richard Nicoll, Jonathan Saunders and Nicholas Kirkwood. [Vogue.uk]

While we normally sit at home all dolled up in our finest dress and heels to watch the Oscars, (what? We’re sure we’re not alone!), we couldn’t pass on the 1st annual To Oscar with LOVE charity dinner at the Eglinton Grand.

Considering that I rarely ever make it to the gym these days (I blame my toddler), when the offer of a body treatment that guaranteed at least a six-inch loss over the course of two hours was presented, how could I say no?
