NYFW diary: Marc Jacobs’ Dickensian trip, paper-bag waists, Jenny Packham’s princess looks, and the Rachel Zoe effect
From a raw start (apparently a one-hour flight has me jetlagged?) to many fantastical shows (read: Marc Jacobs does Eliza Doolittle at the Ice Capades), here’s my countdown of yesterday’s hits:
1. The Kate Middleton factor: Yesterday morning, Kate-favourite Jenny Packham showed 33 shimmering previews of what’s certain to be on the HRH’s back come fall. While most looks were the kind of predictably pretty that we’ve come to expect from the Duchess, this creamy pantsuit is one I’d love to see her try.

NYFW diary: Carolina Herrera, Donna Karan, and a ’20s-themed cocktail party at Thom Browne
For those who spend their days leisurely lunching and evenings attending benefit galas, Carolina Herrera’s spring collection has them covered. Aside from the strange fact that Nicki Minaj was front row, the ladylike collection, filled with floor-sweeping gowns (Renee Zellweger couldn’t take her eyes off a silver sequin–embellished white number) and tea-length sheaths, was conservative but classically chic.

NYFW diary: Praying at the alter of Thom Browne, professorial prep at Brooks Brothers
After climbing 3 sets of Jack-and-the-Beanstalk sized stairs at the New York Public Library, I reach my destination along with 50 other huffing/puffing journos: Thom Browne’s womenswear presentation. Two alter boys (dressed like Thom Browne twins in matching shrunken blazers and walking shorts) kneel and pray, while haunting choral music fills the large room. No one speaks. It feels very Eyes Wide Shut. Then the magic begins. Models dressed in pure-as-the-driven-snow nun habits flutter their mile-long faux lashes to Browne’s soundtrack of choice, The Sound of Music’s “How do you solve a problem like Maria?”

Fashion news: Coco Rocha gets hitched, Thom Browne does womenswear and Anna Wintour engages in some good old-fashioned NIMBYism
Big congrats to supermodel Coco Rocha, who tied the knot yesterday with her beau James Conran. The ceremony was held at the same castle in France where he originally proposed. Well played. [Modelina] See her at FASHION Magazine’s Strut for a Cure.
Yesterday, Anna Wintour spoke out against a Jamaican eatery opening in New York City’s West Village, citing “This is a unique historic neighborhood. I’m also concerned for the safety of the kids here.” Wintour then tried to get the crowd to partake in an unsanctioned hand-raising against the proposed eatery. [NY Daily News]

Snuggie at Fashion Week, affordable Thom Browne and more
Who knew the Snuggie was considered fashion forward enough to have its very own moment in the sun at New York Fashion Week. Apparently, Snuggie is launching a whole slew of colours and styles of the blanket/outfit with the invite saying the “sexiest looks in blanket-wear and adult, kid and even canine models will hit the runway.” This is a joke, right? ’Cause we’re definitely laughing. [The Cut]
An American Apparel ad that ran in Vice was pulled by the UK Advertising Standards Authority because it partially revealed the model’s nipple and resembled “child porn.” Even though the model is 23 and clearly not a child. [Gawker]
