TIFF 2013: Petra Nemcova and disco-loving partygoers show some skin at the Filthy Gorgeous party
See the Filthy Gorgeous party photos »
I’ve always wanted to travel back in time, and last night at the Filthy Gorgeous after party it felt like I’d gone back some forty years. Taking in the music, decor and ambiance at Cube nightclub on Queen Street West was like falling into the decadent disco era of the 1970s. Shiny gold Bourgie lamps, leather banquets covered in animal-print cushions and lingerie models posing on a bed made for a virtual Penthouse party, perfect for celebrating Barry Avrich’s new documentary on the skin mag’s late founder Bob Guccione.

TIFF 2013: The beauty secrets behind Olivia Wilde’s sexy ’60s red carpet look
Olivia Wilde looked cheerful and flirty with her beau Jason Sudeikis at her red carpet premiere of Rush on Sunday night, a mood enhanced by her ’60s sexpot cat-eyes and tousled waves. L.A.-based makeup artist Melanie Inglessis (who also did Wilde’s makeup for FASHION’s September cover) was responsible for her look, which was a nod to the retro feel of the film, the true story of rival race-car drivers in the 1970s.
“I did a really sharp black line on the eyes and a lot of lashes, like a modern Sophia Loren,” says Inglessis, who used a full strip of lashes for each eye but cut it into five pieces, applying them along the lashline and on top of one another for maximum coquettishness. “It was a flared cat-eye, shorter at the beginning and longer at the end.”

TIFF 2013: Julia Roberts and Taylor Swift meet-cute, everyone hugs it out at the August: Osage County Soho House party
See the photos from Grey Goose Soho House »
In some cosmic switcheroo, Taylor Swift may just have been the perfect megawatt replacement for Meryl Streep last night at Grey Goose Soho House. Streep had been the most anticipated guest of TIFF 2013 in connection with her latest sure-to-be Oscar nominated leading role in August: Osage County, but bowed out at the last minute due to illness. There were tears for many, especially one pint sized fan who wore a “Meryl in training” T-shirt to the film’s screening at Roy Thompson Hall earlier that evening. Not for the film’s cast and Gucci and Holt Renfrew’s hosted after-party guests however—they all seemed thrilled by the surprise appearance by Swift, who showed up in a wowza Calvin Klein Collection number after walking the red carpet of One Chance. Flanked by Harvey Weinstein and a dapper Brenton Thwaites who I’m sure will be the talk of the blogs all day long (he’s about to be a Disney prince!), Swift held court on the second floor for most of the night, that is, while she wasn’t busy hanging with the film’s star studded cast, aka. the fixtures of the rip-roarious festivities.

TIFF 2013: Inside the intimate dinner party with Jessica Chastain for The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby
See The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby dinner party photos »
Jessica Chastain wiped away tears of joy following the premiere of The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, explaining to the TIFF audience how happy she was to finally make a film with her friend of 10 years, director Ned Benson.
The 3-hour+ epic is actually two films back to back, and unspools the same story twice: first from a husband’s point of view, then from his wife’s. Demanding? Yes. Emotionally draining? Perhaps.
Still, the mood at the after-dinner for the cast, hosted by the Hudson’s Bay Co. at The Chase, was buoyant. And how could it not be? Stars James McAvoy, Jess Weixler, Ciaran Hinds and the luminous Chastain, in a chiffony aqua Versace, chatted up the crowd which included designer Wayne Clark, The Bay’s Nicholas Mellamphy and Suzanne Timmins and Barbara Amiel, pretty in pink and white Erdem from The Room.

TIFF 2013: 23 photos of Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Juliette Lewis and more on the August: Osage County red carpet

Hollywood’s biggest stars arrived last night for TIFF 2013’s most anticipated world premiere of August: Osage County. The film has been getting much Oscar buzz , which isn’t surprising considering its all-star cast. While two of the big Hollywood names, Meryl Streep and George Clooney, who produced the film, didn’t show up at last night’s red carpet event, there was more than enough attention with the sea of fans and photographers eagerly waiting outside Roy Thompson Hall.
Straying away from her usual go-to black ensemble, Julia Roberts glowed in a playful yet elegant red mini dress from Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2013 collection. With the red shift dress already featuring intricate lace embroidery and bell sleeves, the actress toned down the colour scheme in the accessories department with a neutral clutch and matching shoes. With her million-dollar smile making the perfect accessory, the lady in red (get it?) showed off her effortless beauty in a messy bun, oxblood nails and neutral pink lips.

TIFF 2013: 15 photos of Taylor Swift looking like a total babe on the One Chance red carpet

When Harvey Weinstein asks for a favour, you jump on a plane and walk a red carpet at TIFF. As such, Taylor Swift arrived in Toronto yesterday for the premiere of One Chance, a film that’s based on the true story of the first winner of Britain’s Got Talent and also happens to feature one of Swift’s songs.
Swift certainly brought her star power to the red carpet, which was lined with eager fans. She wore a white silk cut-out dress from the Resort 2014 Calvin Klein Collection that may as well have been painted on—the fit was impeccable. Gold heels and delicate jewellery kept the look polished and simple, but Swift added a bit of visual interest with her hair: her sleek ponytail got a playful upgrade with two tiny fishtail braids. While Swift’s signature red lip was swapped out for a neutral shade, smouldering cat-eye makeup provided drama. All in, Swift delivered an A+ look for her TIFF red carpet debut.

TIFF 2013: Scarlett Johansson, Jude Law, Mila Kunis, Jessica Chastain and more stop by the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew
See all the pictures from the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew »
Considering Holt Renfrew hosts the TIFF Variety Studio every year, one would expect all the stars to be immaculately dressed (quick shop before the presser, anyone?). Well it seems someone must have been thinking like us because all the celebs were dressed to the nines in their designer wares.
A newly-engaged Scarlett Johansson was spotted perusing the men’s section (buying goodies for her fiancé, perhaps?) in a paneled plaid/leather dress by Sachin + Babi. Paired with chunky, patent, platform Robert Clergerie loafers, it was a total ‘90s throwback. The only thing that had us a little confused was her pin-up girl hair, which seemed a bit too fussy for her elegant-grunge look.
As expected, Third Person co-stars Mila Kunis and Olivia Wilde both knocked it out of the proverbial park with their haute wares. The Black Swan star chose a very slimming/Slimane (get it?) Saint Laurent tuxedo and Nicholas Kirkwood heels, while Wilde went a little more unconventional in an embellished Marios Schwab top and skirt and Jimmy Choo heels.

TIFF 2013: Jessica Chastain dazzles at the InStyle and Hollywood Foreign Press Association party
For the dozens of fans who stuck it out till 11:30 last night, it was worth the wait. Jessica Chastain arrived 2.5 hours into the Instyle and Hollywood Foreign Press Association party at the Windsor Arms Hotel. But when she finally pulled up to the red carpet, she eagerly crossed the street to sign autographs […]

TIFF 2013: Jake Gyllenhaal gets intimate with his model girlfriend at the Enemy party
It’s not every day that you find yourself standing in a cabana with Jake Gyllenhaal and Isabella Rossolni but that’s just the sort of magic that TIFF brings to town. My close-proximity to the scruffy-hot actor and international star was all thanks to the after party for Enemy, which is actually Gyllenhaal’s second film to premiere at TIFF 2013. Held on the rooftop patio of Chase, the Hugo Boss-hosted event swelled to max capacity—considering that director Denis Villeneuve shot the film in Toronto there was a lot of local cast and crew on hand to toast the premiere. Sadly, the one local who wasn’t in attendance was Enemy star Sarah Gadon, who had to miss the festival due to scheduling conflicts.

TIFF 2013: Dakota Fanning, Ewan McGregor, Jesse Eisenberg and more at Sunday’s Grey Goose Soho House bash
See all the photos from the Night Moves party! »
This weekend’s TIFF parties have been loaded with A-listers, but at the Grey Goose Soho House last night, it was A-list with a capital ‘A’ for the post-premiere party of Night Moves. The film stars Dakota Fanning and Jesse Eisenberg (plus Swedish dreamboat Peter Sarsgaard, though he sadly wasn’t in town) who play environmentalists-turned-eco-terrorists dealing with a major “moral maelstrom.” Both stars were there last night and while we wonder how the notoriously curt Eisenberg held up, we were mainly focused on Fanning’s top knot and super-hunk bf Jamie Strachan. Fanning swapped her Atelier Versace red carpet look in favour of a more relaxed blazer, crop top and pencil skirt combo. Jennifer Morrison was also rocking some amazing hair, with a long, perfectly-messy fishtail braid that started as a French braid at her crown. (That’s definitely going into our Pinterest inspiration folder.)

Keira Knightley vs. Olivia Wilde: Who wore Mary Katrantzou best at TIFF 2013
We’re only four days into TIFF 2013 and it’s already been been A-list filled. Though the weekend presented us with some rain, it definitely did not stop the style stars from showing off amazing looks including two leading ladies, Keira Knightley and Olivia Wilde, who both showed support for It Brit designer Mary Katrantzou.
We’ve already ogled over Keira Knightley’s effortless beauty (here are 17 photos to prove it!), but we can’t pass up the chance to go into more detail of that beautiful red carpet look. While last year the British actress channeled a more dramatic look, it was refreshing to see Knightley gracing the red carpet this year in something colourful. Reminding us of the nostalgic spring days at Saturday night’s premiere of Can A Song Save Your Life?, Knightley opted for a whimsically printed strapless dress by Mary Katrantzou, featuring a strapless bustier and a voluminous skirt that grazed past her knees. Allowing her dress to get the full attention (as it should), she completed her outfit with a pair of nude/pink ankle strap suede heels by Christian Louboutin. As the quintessential English rose, she finished off her look with subtle but deep purple eyeshadow, nude lips and a chic chignon with her tousled bangs that delicately framed her face.

TIFF 2013: Reese Witherspoon, Taylor Kitsch, Chris and Liam Hemsworth stop by last night’s Worldview party
On another busy night of TIFF 2013, the Worldview Party presented by SodaStream was home to a batch of celebs in town to celebrate the studio’s films at the festival, including Blood Ties, Devil’s Knot, Joe, The Sacrament, The Green Inferno and The Square. Fresh off Devil’s Knot premiere, Reese Witherspoon was the first A-lister to arrive wearing a black and white Jason Wu dress. Her signature smile was out in full force, especially as she took selfies with friends as pictured above. Cute! Later in the evening, the brother studs—make that Chris and Liam Hemsworth—relaxed on the outdoor patio while Joel Edgerton of The Great Gatsby fame mingled near Harvey Weinstein and Taylor Kitsch. We couldn’t resist ogling till way past our bedtime but failed to spot Cyndi Lauper who showed up much later in the evening. How amazing would that have been?
