Joe Mimran’s Barbie look-alike doll even sports velvet slippers
*Sigh* Why must companies tease us by trotting out cult-y items that we want to own, but cannot actually buy? Case in point: Joe Mimran just had a Ken doll made in his image to celebrate Joe Fresh Style’s current line of Barbie merch. The doll has Mimran’s signature hair and is dressed in his signature blazer and open collar shirt and his signature velvet slippers complete with their signature crest. It’s so covetable. And so one-of-a-kind. Boo.

The daily steal: Velvet shoe, $80
We have a major crush on velvet this week, so of course we fell in love with these peep-toe beauties from Aldo ($80, aldoshoes.com). They come in black as well, but it’s hard to resist a tall glass of burgundy.

The daily steal: Velvet stripe T-shirt, $80
Velvet is all over the fall fashion pages, and stripes will be all over the spring ones. This T-shirt from Topshop ($80, jonathanandolivia.com) is a light, modern and sophisticated way to wear both.

New York street style: Blue crush
We’re obviously in a velvet mood this week, so this rich blue number caught our eye. We’re not crazy about the keyhole neckline, but the outrageous jacket and lace-up booties give this look enough quirk to forgive.

Daily steal: Velvet cocktail dress, $38
This week at TIFF saw Hilary Swank and Minnie Driver walk the red carpet in velvet frocks. While we wouldn’t exactly go to a premiere in the $38 number from Simons’ Twik line (simons.ca) it does make for a nice little cocktail dress.

TIFF poll: Minnie Driver and Hilary Swank in velvet. Who wore it best?
Where Alannah Myles when you need her? Hilary Swank and Minnie Driver both turned up for the Conviction premiere last night in dueling (okay, not black) velvet dresses. Driver went with a strapless green frock that, with the the doodads at the side, makes it look like she’s maybe-sorta-kinda wearing the drapes, but she still looks stunning and those Loubs are amazing. Swank puts on a swirled, black-and-blue Pucci mini to show off her legs, but–and it may be the angle–the shoes are not doing anything toward that effort.
Let’s get a closer look at the shoes and accessories, shall we?

Milan street style: Black velvet
After a summer of ripped-to-shreds denim (we’re not complaining), this much luxe polish is refreshing. From the perfect velvet blazer to the shimmering hard shell clutch, this outfit reminds us that dressing up has returned.
