In just over 10 years, Tamara Mellon has established herself as a titan of the fashion world. The former accessories editor turned CEO of Jimmy Choo built the label from the ground up, making it one of the most recognized names in luxury footwear and accessories (and worth upwards of $100 million to boot). After leaving the company in 2012 and penning an ultra-revealing autobiography In My Shoes, Mellon went back to the drawing board, launching a namesake label of her own last fall. Consisting of slick and sexy ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories for the ball-buster inside all of us, the label was an instant sell-out when it launched on Net-A-Porter. This season, the label launches at Holt Renfrew, which the 46-year-old OBE toasted last week in Toronto. While in town, we took a peek inside one of her new bags for a reveal of what a champion accessories designer carries along for a 24-hour jaunt.

For the past few years, Karl Lagerfeld has made sure each new Chanel collection (and there are many) is cemented into fashion history—first, with stellar clothes, and second, with bags so cheekily out of the box that we can’t help but be spellbound. In addition to the brand’s iconic 2.55, Boy and classic quilt, Chanel has created a tongue-and-cheek handbag ode to pop culture with each season, his latest being the wildest of all.

Tipping his hat to Dubai’s economic past and present, the Chanel designer debuted a quilted, golden, double C-incrusted, oil can handbag. The bag was responsible for its fair share of commentary, offending some while resonating with others. It’s no secret that oil was, at one time, a pillar in Dubai’s economy. Was Lagerfeld alluding to a connection between oil and wealth in the main city of the emirate?

This bright, popping clutch pretty much summarizes everything I want to tell spring: Start already, dammit! If carrying this around with will give me any sort of influence on the weather, I’m all for it. Zara box clutch ($60, zara.ca)

As winter reluctantly releases its stranglehold on the weather, we are left to figure out how to dress for two new seasons: extra-winter and the infamous pre-spring psych.

In our dreams, the end of April is sandal territory. As temperatures rise so do hems, layers begin to shed, and toes come out of hibernation. During this unpredictable and unseasonal weather it is easy to get caught in inappropriate footwear. Many have experienced the heartache caused by starting the day dressed for a certain type of climate only to find the elements have done a 180 by lunch-hour. After this years unending winter and slushy spring, when is it time to wear sandals again?

Inherited Jeans’ Stephanie Koch suggests that maybe open-toe is the way to go until a more stable spring climate is reached while Mikki Fox of Centre Street Style says it’s definitely sandal season, as long as winter pieces are still in the mix.

It’s clearly a good week for shoes. One day after Aldo’s Ostwald Helgason collaboration launches, J.Crew‘s equally quirky London designer collection hits the web this Wednesday on April 23, 2014. The much-anticipated Sophia Webster for J.Crew capsule photos have just been released and the shoes are just as cute, colourful and covetable as we expected. The collection of patterned kitten heels, lace-up sandals and T-straps will range from $320-$695, which while steep is still about half of Webster’s signature line pricepoints.

These babies are just enough raver to satisfy my ’90s nostalgia need, with the kind of chunky platform action to ensure that long summertime walks are possible.
