On the street, stylish shoppers didn’t disappoint wearing print-heavy ensembles as they perused the market’s various stalls. The year’s most popular prints were in full view ranging from checkers to ikat to polka dots. In addition to the ever-popular florals and stripes, fall’s focus on the black and white trend was evident.

See the Teen Choice Award 2013 red carpet photos »
Last night’s Teen Choice Awards saw our favourite stars and starlets collecting surfboards for their various contributions to film, television and music. Show highlights included Harry Styles’ 3-second twerk-out and a special appearance by Miley Cyrus’ engagement ring. Buzz-worthy moments were had in the fashion department as well, with leather, crop tops and cutout dresses making their fair share of appearances on the blue carpet outside L.A.’s Gibson Amphitheatre.
Darren Criss of Glee and Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars played co-hosts for the evening. Hale, who collected a surfboard for Choice Summer TV Star, looked perfectly pretty in a mint green silk crop top and floral-embroidered skirt by Houghton. She let the outfit do the talking with her minimal makeup and laidback waves. Hale’s TV co-star Shay Mitchell ditched her signature bold colour palette for a simple yet sexy black and white jumpsuit by Jenni Kayne. In the beauty department the actress paired her new honey-coloured ombré hair with deep smoky eyes.

Fall 2013 fashion is a lesson in extremes. There’s some serious push and pull when it comes to the stylistic female role in today’s society, and no place proves a better show than on the runway.
Skirt suits, the once-staple pairing for women’s fashion, were back for fall at Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Christian Dior, where models returned to New Look ideals. Nipped waists, strong shoulders and an ample cut of wool seemed to pose that the woman of the 1940s was ideal, at least this time around on the trend carousel. The return of the skirt, whether in-suit or otherwise, seems never more impactful than for this season, where it appeared in virtually every collection from Hérmes to Chanel. At Ports 1961, a mid-length circle skirt paired effortlessly with a grey bomber jacket and cable knit sweater to make the ultimate modern-casual statement.
To add to Fall 2013 fashion’s femme fest, Miu Miu, Carven, Giles and Jonathan Saunders embraced powder pink, the ultimate baby doll hue. Elsewhere, a soft palette of baby blue and winter whites seemed to point to a more innocent direction as well, especially when paired with fall’s boudoir trend. Most notably at Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, bed-headed models wore slinky lingerie dresses, fox-trim silk robes and lazily dragged stoles on the ground.

Black and white: 11 ways to embrace this graphic trend now
See all 11 of our black and white shopping picks »
Go beyond the basic blue jean and hit a high note in bold black and white. We’re toning things down after a season of brights and decadent embellishments. Follow in Alicia Key’s streamlined New York Fashion Week steps, with a fail-proof pair of chic two-toned trousers. Or opt for a playful print as Kate Middleton did with the fun polka dot number she wore earlier this summer. Either way you wear it, this trend has legs.
The graphic trend was a hit on the fall runways, with fashion designers giving their stamp of approval to the classic colour combination. Black and white stole the show at Proenza Schouler—the Fall 2013 collection was void of almost any colour—appearing on rounded jackets, sleek trousers and printed accessories. A standout ermine-esque black and white coat at Céline ranks high on our must-have list, and Rick Owens ‘s entire collection went from black to white and back again, solidifying this graphic trend as our new go-to.

How to wear white: 12 Style Panel tips for making summer’s most synonymous hue anything but boring
Much like a blank canvas, white fashions are the clean slate that every wardrobe needs. The versatility of the innocent hue lends itself to endless styling possibilities. With the no-white-post-labour-day rule behind us (how passé), we’re free to stock up on crisp white pieces for summer, fall and beyond.
Stars on and off the red carpet are choosing white as their colour of choice. The ongoing white trend can just as easily adopt a streamlined, clean-cut look with sharp tailoring, as it can a perfectly pretty one with embroidery and sheer silks. Whatever your flavour, the posh hue is the perfect choice for showing off some of your boldest accessories. Consider pairing your favourite whites with a fierce animal print bag as Beyoncé pulled off recently. In the jewellery department, try topping off a white frock with an edgy, head-turning necklace like Olivia Palermo. A bold lip can also make as strong a statement, with Karlie Kloss showing off the perfect red pout to avoid looking washed out by her all white red carpet getup.
Much like the stars they dress, A-list designers are showing their love for the always-in-style hue. To keep it fresh, Bottega Veneta combined white-on-white textures on its Spring 2013 runway. Chanel spiced up ensembles with pearl beads garnishing white pieces.
Still doubting the power of an all white palette? Fear not, because we’ve asked our style panel for tips on how to wear white.
Over My Styled Body’s Lyndsey Forest agrees that accessories are key to amp up a white ensemble. She also suggests trying an unusual hemline to keep your look fun. Alicia Fashionista’s Alicia Quan pairs her whites with edgier pieces such as a leather jacket to avoid a bride-to-be look. With Love Gabrielle’s Marta Tryshak thinks that white is easy and fabulous. She considers well-fitted white denim jeans a must-have and advises investing in a pair that can be worn well into the fall.
Question 62: How do you wear white while keeping it fresh? Read the answers now!

Miley Cyrus vs. Jennifer Lawrence: Who wore the crop top best?
See the crop top looks up close »
The crop top is one of this season’s biggest statement pieces, on and off the runway. Rocked most confidently by those with bodies that can, the crop top’s been seen on celeb midriffs from Diane Kruger to Rihanna and most recently by two of Hollywood’s favourite edgiest dressers.
The crop top trend has made a good friend of Miley Cyrus, who after being photographed in a demure Chanel dress earlier the same day, returned to flaunting her abs for an appearance on Good Morning America. There to promote Las Vegas’s iHeart Radio Music Festival alongside Ryan Seacrest and Keith Urban, Cyrus wore striped and perforated black and white crop top and full skirt from Marc Jacobs’ Resort 2014 collection. Keeping things decidedly simple, Cyrus accessorized with thin layered necklaces by Jennifer Meyer, white pointed-toe heels by Celine and a signature red pout.
