Four eyes forever: The Bobbi Brown eyewear collection + how to wear makeup with glasses
See what makeup you should be rocking behind your frames »
In the 1970s, Sissy Spacek became an unlikely beauty inspiration for makeup artist Bobbi Brown; she had just seen Spacek host Saturday Night Live wearing round wire frames and was immediately drawn to them. Serendipitously, Brown failed an eye test and was told she needed glasses but they weren’t mandatory; she jumped at the chance to wear a pair. “They were not that popular at the time,” recalls Brown over the phone from her New York City office. “It was just about this cool hippie girl, which I really wanted to be.”

Beauty fix: The lazy girl’s guide to summertime skin treatments

I don’t have too much time or money to commit to regular pedicures, so what can I use to keep my feet looking their best?
As indulgent as regular pedicures can be throughout the summer, they can get expensive, not to mention tricky to fit into your schedule between work and play. Fortunately, the Clarisonic Pedi Sonic Foot Transformation System ($230, thebay.com) is a quick addition to your daily shower routine, and it delivers pretty substantial results. The system consists of a sonic device with two interchangeable device heads (one brush for wet/dry buffing, one disc for smoothing calloused areas), foot scrub (full fruit acids), foot balm (no-slip formula with shea butter and honey to hydrate) and foot peel (a fluid full of glycolic and lactic acid to gently break down dead skin cells). It may sound complicated, but it’s as simple as using the buffing brush daily with the scrub in the shower, followed by the balm and applying the foot peel or using the smoothing disc a couple times a week. -

I’m looking for a new beauty look this season. What’s the eye makeup trend to try this summer?
While summer can be a minimal makeup moment for many, it’s also a great opportunity to experiment with summer makeup trends. The sun is shining, so seize the moment and inject some colour into your look. If bright shades are a bit bold for your taste, pastels offer a dose of colour without overwhelming any particular feature of your face. Add the Bobbi Brown Surf Palette ($75, at Bobbi Brown counters) to your arsenal for a mélange of different textures and finishes to play with, such as soft aqua blue, green and shimmery pink shades, complemented by warm-toned neutral shades to ground any look from becoming too Easter-inspired. -

How can I make sure my facial flush lasts when I’m poolside or beachside?
Making makeup last in heat is a challenge every summer. Making makeup last in situation involving heat and water definitely calls for heavy artillery. When water gets involved, definitely opt for more sweat- and water-resistant products, like Cargo Swimmables Blush in “Bali” ($29, murale.ca). This formula will stay in place come high humidity or splashes of water due to silicone-coated powder that adheres to skin better, which means you’ll look glowing and radiant. This soft pink shade in particular is very natural looking and provides such an effortless flush, making it a blush you’ll be reaching for all summer and well into the fall.

What’s in your bag, Sea of Shoes’ Jane Aldridge?
Go inside Jane Aldridge’s bag »
Jane Aldridge has the designer shoe game on lock. Her wildly popular blog, Sea of Shoes, has documented her favourite purchases and pairs since 2008, landing her on the pages of Vanity Fair and at dinner tables with Karl Lagerfeld. So it’s fitting that we caught up with the red-headed blogger at Holt Renfrew Yorkdale, to celebrate the launch of the newly-revamped shoe hall. Naturally, she was advising fellow footwear lovers on pre-Christmas purchases and posing for photo opps with fans. (As for Aldridge’s own shoes, open toe Jerome C. Rousseau cage booties are a new favourite. “I’ve been wearing these tons, actually, ever since I got them,” she said.)

Beauty Fix: The benefits of using a facial oil, how to say goodbye to undereye puffiness and more
Every week our Beauty Fix columnist takes on your questions about makeup, skincare, hair and more. Have a beauty question we haven’t answered? Email us at beautyfix@fashionmagazine.com.
I don’t have undereye circles, but sometimes I have puffiness that creates a shadow. What can I do about this?
Undereye puffiness and swelling is a buildup of fluid in the undereye area. This less-than-slightly scene can be caused by a number of things, including but not limited to irregular sleep patterns, allergies, high sodium consumption (this will probably make you rethink topping up your soy sauce the next time you have sushi!), and alcohol consumption. Some fine-tuning of your lifestyle can help alleviate undereye puffiness and swelling, but in the meantime, Garnier Nutritionist Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller ($22, well.ca) can help you! This undereye roller encourages circulation to the area thanks to the cooling sensation of the metal rollerball, and the tinted gel formula dispensed with each roll contains caffeine and lemon extract, in order to brighten and stimulate the area, concealing darkness without creasing! -
What’s in your bag, Katie Boland?
See what’s inside Katie Boland’s bag »
Katie Boland ranks high on our list of young Canadians worth keeping an eye on. In the past few years the Toronto-based actress had made waves with notable roles including one alongside Kat Dennings in the 2010 flick Daydream Nation and in her own web series Long Story, Short (which she wrote and co-produced, by the way). The striking brunette, who has much to be excited about with a role on the new CW series Reign, stopped by our offices to give us an uncensored look at what she carries in her everyday bag. A self-professed iPhone addict, who admits she can’t live without eyeliner and is constantly on the hunt for the perfect red lipstick, is refreshingly down to earth and surprisingly low-maintenance (lipstick, Visa and phone is all that she brings with her to red carpet events). We got up close and personal with Boland’s must-have items as she let us peruse through her purse.
