Mad Men Recap: In which we talk all too much about Hare Krishna and Don and Joan’s chemistry
Last week we got another measured dose of Betty, but once again the Francis household is nowhere to be seen. Instead it’s back to a plate of SCDP and agency hard times. Last we saw Lane, his Jaguar buddy got caught with gum in his pants that led to boardroom fisticuffs with Pete. Don and Megan pop up for some bickering, but it’s not as bad as the underwear party clean-up and Howard Johnson gelato spat, and seems to stem from his dissatisfaction at work. Joan is finally hearing from Dr. Harris about the future of their marriage that she ended, just as her long-ago ex, Sterling Cooper’s smug copywriter Paul Kinsey, is popping back into Harry Crane’s life.

Was Michelle Williams the best pick to play Marilyn Monroe? View our picks and vote for your favourite Hollywood bombshell
By Emily Burke
We’re still buzzing about My Week With Marilyn, the newly released film starring Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe, a great film based on the actress’ time in London while filming The Prince and the Showgirl during the 1950s. Williams is a premier indie darling, famed for her heartbreaking (and Oscar nominated) roles in Blue Valentine and Brokeback Mountain. Toss her into any indie flick and ask her to play the hardened but sympathetic beauty, and her many admirers will eat it up. She carries herself as a serious woman with a sharp mind. She is absolutely sexy, but it’s hard to separate that sex appeal from her innocent intellect or her pixie cut and teensy frame. Reviews of her performance as Marilyn have been split between raves and criticisms, and we wonder whether another Hollywood It girl might have suited the role a bit better. Who do you think suits the role of Marilyn Monroe best?

We go behind the scenes of the Mad Men collection for Banana Republic with Janie Bryant
Season 5 of Mad Men may be delayed until 2012, but thanks to Banana Republic‘s exclusive, 65-piece capsule collection by the show’s costume designer, Janie Bryant, we’ve got something to tide us over until then. Since its release last week, we’ve started feeling pangs of Draper-fever and so, in an attempt to calm ourselves, we chatted with Bryant about the collection and her work on the hit show. Fashion news: Christina Hendricks for London Fog, Lady Gaga’s drag cover, and Crystal Renn dances around looking slender
Cue the chorus: In the video above, shot during a photoshoot for Canadian mag The Block, Crystal Renn dances around in a nude leotard, looking pretty darn slim. [Dossier Journal, via Racked]
Lady Gaga‘s alter ego, a Sicilian mechanic named Jo Calderone will grace the cover of Japanese Vogue Hommes. An excerpt from the interview with “Jo” implies the two slept together: “WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO LADY GAGA? I met her at a shoot Nick Knight was doing. She’s fuckin beautiful, and funny, and interesting. I was a little nervous for Nick to start shooting. She said, “Don’t be baby, you were “born this way.” I took her out after. The rest is private ;)”. [The Cut]

Calgary: Christina Hendricks, Heather Marks and Elisha Cuthbert party at Holt Renfrew opening
While we were busy at the New Moon premiere in Toronto on Thursday night, Holt Renfrew was loading up on star power for the opening of their new Calgary flagship. Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks was there (with new hubby Geoffrey Arend) in a cool suit-like dress by Canadian David Szeto, while Calgary homegirl Heather Marks sported a mesh dress with patent appliqués by another Canuck designer, Rita Liefhebber. Jeremy Piven, Gossip Girl Kristen Bell and Glee‘s Jessalyn Gilsig also made an appearance, as did 24‘s Elisha Cuthbert with her Flames boyfriend, Dion Phaneuf. Calgary band The Fast Romantics played a set (with some unplanned accompaniment from Piven, who insisted on drumming–to mixed reviews) before handing over the dance floor to DJ Samantha Ronson.
