Michelle Dockery vs. Sofia Vergara: Who wore red best at Emmys 2013?
Join us as we still float in the sartorial high of last night’s Emmys and take a closer look at some of our standouts. Though blush coloured gowns were the most popular of the evening, Sofia Vergara and Michelle Dockery deviated towards berry tones.
Sofia Vergara looked ravishing in a vibrant red Vera Wang gown accessorized with tri-jewel toned Lorraine Schwartz earrings. The mermaid silhouette dress did wonders for the Modern Family star’s curves and the v-cut neckline showed just enough décolletage to cause a few double takes.
Opting for a more sedate approach to her Emmys’ look, Michelle Dockery wore a top to toe Prada ensemble. She wore a two-toned halter dress that had a fitted red top and a pleated deep burgundy skirt. The Downton Abbey star completed her Prada look with Fred Leighton jewellery and an embellished clutch.
For their beauty looks both actresses opted for neutral hued lips, bold lashes and parted hair. Sofia went with a middle part and hanging curls while Michelle’s bob was in the night’s popular side part.

Emmys 2013: From Elisabeth Moss to Kate Mara, the best short hair on the red carpet
See the best hair from the 2013 Emmy Awards »
Short hair is still where it’s at, with above-the-shoulder styles being amongst the best beauty looks on the 2013 Emmy Awards red carpet. From Elisabeth Moss’s cropped platinum cut to Kate Mara’s striking pin-straight style to Claire Danes’ faux bob, the message was clear: to stand out in a sea of Old Hollywood side parts and loose updos, you have to go short.
Not willing to let Betty Draper have all the fun, Elisabeth Moss debuted her freshly-dyed blonde hair on the Emmys red carpet. Channeling a little bit of a Charlize Theron vibe, the tousled, modern style was a new look for Moss—and a fierce one at that. As for Mad Men’s other leading ladies, both January Jones and Christina Hendricks kept their short cuts curly.

Emmys 2013: Our top 20 best dressed on the red carpet
See the Emmys 2013 red carpet gallery »
The Primetime Emmy Awards were held last night in L.A. drawing the stars of our favourite highly addictive shows. From Kerry to Carrie and beyond, the red carpet was lined with gown after gown of the most feminine pinks, vibrant blues and fresh off the runway pieces.
Making a simple but bold statement with fall’s pink trend, Rose Byrne showed clean lines in a petal pink Calvin Klein cropped two-piece as did January Jones in a textured Spring 2014 Givenchy strapless gown by Riccardo Tisci. Sisters Zooey and Emily Deschanel wore similarly hued gowns by J.Mendel and Houghton as they presented an award onstage. Blue was also popular for Tina Fey and Allison Williams, who worked cobalt blue in Narsico Rodriguez and Ralph Lauren respectively.
Our Emmys 2013 standouts include the ever-smoldering Sofia Vergara whose mind-blowing curves left us with body envy. The Modern Family star sizzled in a crimson Vera Wang gown and emerald Lorraine Schwartz earrings. Claire Danes, who walked away with a coveted Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama, was delicate in an off white Armani Privé Fall 2013 gown.
Accompanying the glamour came an evening chock full of surprises, laughs and unforgettable acceptance speeches. Memorable moments include the host Neil Patrick Harris’s mid-show musical number, Michael Douglas’s Liberace-esque speech and the funny and casually dressed Will Ferrell. With the best leading ladies in primetime television satisfying our sartorial needs on the red carpet and dapper gents as far as the eye could see at the Emmys 2013, glamour was definitely in the air!

Kelly Osbourne says “sorry I’m not sorry” for her $250,000 black diamond Emmys manicure
As we reported on Monday, Kelly Osbourne was extremely eager to flaunt her apparent $250,000 black diamond manicure on the Emmys red carpet. What we didn’t mention, however, was how much flack she received from fans (and haters, obviously) for bragging about such an extravagant manicure.

Did Kelly Osbourne really get a $250,000 manicure for the Emmys?
If Kelly Osbourne had her way, she’d like you to believe that each of her nails were covered in $25,000 worth of nail polish at last night’s Emmys. Before the award show went live she tweeted a picture of Azature’s Black Diamond nail polish with the subtle caption, “About to get a $250k manicure w nail polish made w blk diamonds made by @azature so excited & honored but absolutely shitting myself to have that much money on my nails!”
However, given that the jewelry company only produced one bottle of its $250,000 nail polish—a bottle that contains a hefty 267 carats of black diamonds—there was some confusion about what was really on Kelly Osbourne’s nails.

Heidi Klum attempts the Angelina leg. Does she succeed?
See the photo evidence up close
It all started with a leg, an Atelier Versace gown and a pose on the Academy Awards red carpet. Oh, and the rest of Angelina Jolie was there as well.
Jolie’s right leg jutted out to the side from underneath a lengthy slit as she presented awards and posed for photos. Her limb instantly became a meme and has a Twitter account, which has 43,000 followers.

Lena Dunham and Zooey Deschanel are no longer nail art BFFs (But Zooey’s Emmys manicure is still adorable!)
Despite Lena Dunham and Zooey Deschanel talking and tweeting about coordinating their nail art for the 2012 Emmys, it seems the two didn’t actually follow through with their matching manicure plans. Even though Lena Dunham kept her Emmy awards nails simple, she did stay on trend with her colour choice, opting for Deborah Lippmann’s natual-looking “Fashion” nail polish. The taupe shade complemented her Prada gown and kept the focus on her makeup. And we have to say: Lena Dunham does a dramatic blue smoky eye well. (It’s very Chanel Couture Spring 2012, no?)
Zooey Deschanel did, however, show up on the red carpet with an impressive sparkly nail art design, complete with glittering mini TVs on her thumbs and Swarovski crystals overtop a pale orange polish across all other fingers.

There was a surprise winner on the red carpet at last night’s Emmys awards show and it happened to be the colour yellow. It’s safe to say many of the stars had a sunny outlook for the night.
Julianne Moore, Claire Danes, and Kaley Cuoco all sported dresses in egg yolk yellow. Moore opted for pieces from Raf Simmons’ first couture collection for Christian Dior, Danes wore Lanvin which flattered her pregnant belly, and Cuoco wore Angel Sanchez.
Our favourite funny girls, Kristen Wiig, Amy Poehler, and Tina Fey, kept their looks simple and classic. Dressed in a cream Balenciaga, black sequined Stella McCartney, and burgundy Vivienne Westwood, respectively, these comedians looked anything but silly.
There were some could-be-prom-queen moments from Zooey Deschanel and January Jones, whose trains were as long as they were wide. Deschanel had a cutesy manicure (of course) to go with her Reem Acra fluffy gown that featured a tiny TV on her nail. Turns out wearing tulle on the red carpet is harder than it seems because Zooey Deschanel got her gown caught on Lucy Liu’s metallic Versace dress. Oh, the agony!
Despite Zooey Deschanel and January Jones’ large looks, many women opted for body hugging dresses. Sofia Vergara resembled a sparkling mermaid in Zuhair Murad which featured a between the boobs cut-out and Hayden Panettiere was feeling blue in her bollywood inspired Marchesa gown. Michelle Dockery also hopped aboard the blue train in a Louis Vuitton satin dress and Nicole Kidman joined as well with a teal embellishment.

Celeb poll: Who wore red best at last night’s Emmy Awards?
Couldn’t you just hear Chris DeBurgh’s “Lady in red” watching the red carpet arrivals at last night’s Emmy Awards? From Lea Michele‘s embellish-sleeved Marchesa to Nina Dobrev‘s mermaid Donna Karan, the Emmy trend seemed pretty clear. So, who did it best? Vote after the jump!

Is Joan Rivers to blame for boring red carpet style?
If you found the dresses at the Emmys to be a snooze, please direct your complaints to Joan Rivers. WWD‘s Bridget Foley pins our red carpet ennui on the um…style expert(?) for a parade of column dresses and strapless ballgowns that can all be described as “lovely, pretty, accessible,” all four-letter words to a fashion lover. (Can’t you just hear Nina Garcia spitting out the word “safe”?) According to Foley, it all started with with Nicole Kidman’s Dior dress at the 1997 Oscars:

Red carpet roundup: The best and worst of the Emmy Awards
January Jones took the biggest fashion dare on last night’s Emmy Awards red carpet. We went back and forth on her blue Atelier Versace–at first glance, we felt an initial and resounding “no,” to the short front and long train, but in light of all the navy and black and white column gowns, we’ve warmed […]

The Emmys: Whither the statement necklace?
Is the statement necklace over? The recent explosion of oversized jewels–both real and faux–has left nary a clavicle unadorned. But here we are, flipping through red carpet pics from last night’s Emmys, taken slightly aback by all the strapless gowns and naked necks. Witness January Jones and Blake Lively (pic after the jump), both in Versace, both with bare necks.
