MFW diary: Arrivederci Milano!
The Linate airport is looking like one chic departure lounge early this morning. Grabbing a coffee before jetting off to Paris is: Style.com‘s Nicole Phelps, the Los Angeles Times’ Booth Moore, WWD‘s Miles Socha. Plus, there’s a whole gaggle of seriously chic NYC cool girls who I’m always sitting next to at shows that (even at my age) have a way of making me feel like the girl in the high school caf who eats alone. But enough about me, I haven’t had two seconds to tell you about the final day of Milan fashion week!

Pink lady: Costumer Christopher Hargadon on recreating the Kennedys
Attempting to recreate the wardrobes of one of America’s most documented families sounds like entering a maze that’s impossible to navigate. “It was all-consuming,” admits costumer Christopher Hargadon of History Television’s spring miniseries The Kennedys, a scripted biopic on the rise of the mythic clan. Speaking from his Toronto studio about the task of dressing some 150 characters—Katie Holmes’ Jackie alone has about 50 costume changes—he says his main concern was finding fabrics that reflected the time, like the type of wool used in men’s suits. To mimic the intricate embroidery of one of Jackie’s evening gowns, Hargadon spent hours hand-painting the onscreen replica.

Dispatch from Milan: The blues (and George Clooney) at Giorgio Armani
It’s the last day of Milan Fashion Week. Am I blue? Not at all, but Giorgio Armani certainly is as he closed the week with a calm, serene show full of dark, inky hues. The collection mixed a new silhouette of short cropped jackets layered over long skirts and dresses, or, sometimes, over shorter skirts and narrow pants. With sheer fabrics, turban hats, flat sandals, a ruffle here and sequins there, Mr. Armani had his audience enraptured. (George Clooney in the front row didn’t hurt.)
Calm seemed to be the word of the day.

Models are appearing in more ads than celebrities, suggesting a turn of the tide in celebrity-heavy spots. Karl Lagerfeld cites celeb overexposure, while the Marilyn Agency’s Robert Ferrell suggests the economic crisis might have something to do it–having a celebrity can “double or triple” the budget. YSL designer Stefano Pilati just plain likes to work with models: “[Actresses] have an attitude, but will never be the fashion attitude. To me, fashion photography is with a model; otherwise, it’s a portrait.” [WWD]

The jeans will be sold exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Intermix with plans to expand the collection to a full lifestyle collection in the fall. [WWD]
