MFW diary: Marc Jacobs was at last night’s Louis Vuitton Milan store opening
Milan’s Via Monte Napoleone, the most infamous shopping street on the planet, was virtually shut down last night as Louis Vuitton opened its brand-spanking-new digs. Fashion Week groupies were out in droves, hoping to catch a glimpse of cult designer Marc Jacobs, in town to fete the opening of “Louis Vuitton: The Art of Fashion,” […]

Montreal shop notes: Ogilvy’s bag bar

Photography by James Cochrane When it comes to a Louis Vuitton boutique, bigger is always better. The recent reno at Ogilvy (1307 Ste-Catherine St. W., 514-842-7711, ogilvycanada.com) gives LV lovers more than 3,000 square feet of monogram madness. Best of all? The bag bar, where shoppers can sit along a sleek counter and eye their next posh purchase.

They said/We said: Marc Jacobs is asking for the big bucks at Dior

Photography by Peter Stigter Following the recent conviction of John Galliano, the buzz around Marc Jacobs replacing him at Dior intensifies. The latest rumour is that Jacobs and business partner Robert Duffy are in negotiations and asking for a salary package of $10 million.
If Jacobs cashes in on the deal, he’ll be one of the highest-paid designers in the world. The new position of creative director also means more work for Jacobs, adding Dior’s two couture shows on top of his existing workload.
Now that it’s looking more and more likely that Jacobs will say goodbye to Louis Vuitton, the people at Vuitton seem to be scrambling to find a replacement. Apparently they’ve approached many of fashion’s heavyweights including Alber Elbaz, the Proenza Schouler boys, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Sarah Burton, and Hedi Slimane. So far, Elbaz, Ghesquiere and Burton have declined.

They said/We said: Okay, so is Marc Jacobs really, really, really the new guy at Dior? And who, for that matter, is in at Vuitton?

Photography by Peter Stigter By Louise Coleman
Recently, we talked about the rumours speculating Marc Jacobs’ move from Louis Vuitton to Dior; but today the issue has gained further momentum. Dun dun dun!
Sources claim that Bernard Arnault has officially named Jacobs as Galliano’s replacement at Dior, and an announcement is forthcoming. Moving down the fashion industry ladder, our next question inevitably is: Who will be replacing Jacobs at Vuitton?
Surprisingly, or not, all fingers point to Phoebe Philo, the woman credited for turning around the now-coveted Céline. Don’t fret, Céline lovers—it appears that Philo will simultaneously act as Céline’s creative director, meanwhile taking on Jacobs’ job at Vuitton. Pressure much?

Holy monogram! Louis Vuitton to expand its Toronto flagship

Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2011 Toronto is in love with Louis Vuitton. What else could explain the fact that the city’s two-storey Bloor St. flagship isn’t big enough to satiate the stylish hordes hungry for patchwork purses, angora skating skirts and velvet pumps?
On Tuesday, Louis Vuitton vice-president of Canada and Bermuda, Jean-Philippe Hecquet, told a gathering of top clients that the Toronto flagship would be moving to the north side of Bloor St. and tripling in size. The store will be located at 150 Bloor St. W. and is scheduled to open in the summer of 2012. “Our clients travel and get frustrated when they see things in other cities that they can’t get here,” Hecquet noted prior to an informal showing of the pre-fall collection.
