Beauty notes: Greta Constantine’s haute dolls
By Andrea Victory
When M.A.C senior artist Melissa Gibson was given the description “Princess Voodoo Doll” for the Spring 2011 Greta Constantine collection, she looked to her copy of Haute Doll Magazine for inspiration.
Keeping the theme in mind, but also making sure the look was “not too literal, more spring, fresh and soft,” Gibson rounded out the eyes by contouring the crease and dragging the taupe-y grey tones underneath and downward, then highlighting the ball of the eyelid to attract light and reinforce the roundness.

M.A.C pulls the Rodarte makeup collection
M.A.C has announced that they won’t be shipping the makeup collection created by Rodarte‘s Kate and Laura Mulleavy. The collection, which, like the pair’s Fall 2010 collection, was inspired by Mexico–specifically the troubled town of Ciudad Juárez. Controversy ignited around the line after some bloggers protested that the names of the products–a polish called “Juarez,” a lipstick named “Ghost Town”–glamourized poverty and violence against women in the factory town. M.A.C responded by offering to donate profits from the collection to charitable initiatives in Ciudad Juárez, but yesterday posted the following on their Facebook page:

The Rodarte designers have already apologized, “We never intended to make light of this serious issue and we are truly sorry,” and M.A.C sent an email to editors saying they will be changing the name of the shade. Just because he designs for some of the world’s biggest luxury hounds, doesn’t mean Marc Jacobs doesn’t have time for the other side of the spectrum: “OK, recently I watched every episode of Jersey Shore‘s first season. I don’t know if it was any good and I certainly didn’t learn anything, but it was definitely hypnotic and it gave my brain a vacation.” [The Cut]

Want to buy a piano signed by Lady Gaga?
M.A.C’s newest Viva Glam spokesperson, Lady Gaga, was in Tokyo for the Asia launch of her and Cyndi Lauper’s shades of the charitably-minded lipstick.
