MEN’S FASHION Spring 2013: A look at 8 of this year’s most jaw dropping new cars
By Mark Hacking
A collection of cars for burning up the roads, these new models represent a potent mix of heart-stopping performance and heart-wrenching design.
BEYOND THE BEATEN TRACK
2013 Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged | $99,950
Most people who drive the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged will have no idea what they have on their hands. That’s because most people drive on perfectly paved roads. But the genius of the Range Rover is the way it can transition from ultra-luxurious urban cruising machine into rough-and-tumble off-road superstar. The fourth-generation version of this icon has been redesigned and re-engineered from the ground up. Credited as being the world’s first SUV with an all-aluminum body, the new Range Rover is 39 per cent lighter than the outgoing model. This translates into a weight savings of up to 420 kg, depending upon the individual model chosen.
The supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine (510 horsepower; 461 lb-ft of torque) is linked to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. With its lightweight body and all that power and torque, the Range Rover Supercharged boasts a 0-100 km/h time of around five seconds, better fuel efficiency and effortless performance overall. Also, it could climb a sheer rock face if it had to.

MEN’S FASHION Spring 2013 cover: Thom Browne, the most important man in menswear now
Thom Browne designs clothes that have been thought to be comical and ill-fitting. They are also redefining modern menswear.
Menswear designer Thom Browne has used the runway to float some strange ideas. His provocative and characteristically wacky proposals have included a Big Bird suit of feathers in banker’s grey; punky makeup paired with papal-like capes; matronly skirts topped by jackets with the Hulk’s shoulders; see-through pants; square pants; and pants with three legs.
You might wonder, “Who but a clown is going to wear this stuff?” But all the theatrical pieces serve to put into relief the Thom Browne suit. Consisting of a short, snug jacket and trousers cropped to shin-revealing heights, it has been the basis of everything Browne has done since he launched his business a dozen years ago. In the beginning, it seemed extreme, was mocked and incited comparisons to Pee-wee Herman, but it has turned out to be a defining shape of men’s clothing today.
If you want to see something really freaky, take a look at an average suit from just six years ago. I’ve got one. Both jacket and pants are slightly too long, and the whole thing is made from the kind of lightweight, ultrafine wool that drapes like silk. Put it on, and it feels like a kimono.

The top 10 strangest celebrity creative directors
Gone are the days when celebrities and designers were just, well, celebrities and designers. Now with every celebrity endorsement comes with a prestigious title—one that we’re used to being associated with helming a major fashion house—the creative director.
While we can’t be too certain what part of the process these celebrity endorsements play other than lending their face or fame to the product, it has become increasingly common for musicians, actors, and designers to add a creative director title to their CVs (aka their Wikipedia pages). With the recent news of Alicia Keys becoming the Global Creative Director of Blackberry, and today’s announcement of Marc Jacobs as the newest creative director of Diet Coke—succeeding Jean Paul Gaultier—we’ve decided to take a look back at some of the weirdest and flat out funniest creative directors to date.

David Beckham gets naked and pulls several wedgies in H&M’s new Guy Ritchie-directed short
Nakedness, wedgies, the paparazzi not spotting its target—oh, the miracles that can happen when you can just bask in the glow of your hotness. In the latest commercial for his underwear collection for H&M, soccer’s ultimate babe David Beckham gives the salivating ladies and gents what they want with this cheeky (womp womp) one and a half minute frolic through the Los Angeles streets wearing nothing but—you guessed it—underwear. The premise is a simple one. His robe got stuck in Posh’s Range Rover! His bulldog locked him out of the house! A classic Guy Ritchie-style chase ensues, as he runs and swims after the speeding car through the streets and backyards getting nakeder and nakeder. Everyone from kids playing soccer, to a couple of unwitting paparazzi, to a busload of tourists is shocked to find Beckham in his undies—but not as shocked as us when he not once, but TWICE pulls a wedgie from between those two famed buttocks. Can you tell we just emerged from a cold shower? Are we creeping you out just a little? S’ok, just watch the video again.
Want even more David Beckham? Watch the behind-the-scenes video below. Haaaay.
