A fashion week mix because… why not?
It’s fashion week. It’s Thursday! What better time to embrace a good ole #tbt than with this synth ode to Toronto legend, Corey Haim. Toronto smooth pop duo Ben Cook and Matt DeLong dreamed up this vibey track in honour of Toronto Fashion Week and it was so good we just had to share.

To celebrate Selena Gomez’s 21st birthday, we count down 10 of the best house party music videos
It’s a big week for Selena Gomez—on Friday she released her first solo album and today she turns 21. Happy Birthday, indeed! In the grand tradition of twenty-first birthdays being a big big BIG deal, Selena recorded a music video to make her fans feel like they’re all there, celebrating with her. And oh, do we ever want to be there! Set to “Birthday”—which sounds like Spring Breakers and The Bling Ring come to life—Selena and her sexy crew host a dance party that rivals the best of them, complete with sparkly crowns, break dancers, mannequins and confetti poppers. (Extra credit goes to Selena’s ’90s-inspired plaid shirt and crop top. Way to be on-trend, girl!) Now that Selena officially has the same birthday as the Royal Baby, what better way to celebrate than with a look back at some of the best house party music videos out there. From Selena’s BFF Taylor Swift to ex-BF Justin Bieber, to Janet Jackson and, of course, the Beastie Boys, let’s count ’em down!

Exclusive: Meet Little Mix, Britain’s newest girl group, with this playful nail art tutorial
Here’s some Friday morning fun for you! The show that brought us One Direction and the country that gave us the Spice Girls have pretty much done it again: Little Mix is a new girl group that formed on the UK’s X Factor in 2011. If you’ve been missing the upbeat pop music and feisty lyrics that dominated the charts in the late ’90s, it’s time to give Little Mix a listen. (The video for “How Ya Doing” could easily be mistaken for a Destiny’s Child song and makes us want to dye our hair bright colours ASAP.) The four-girl group not only won X Factor, they launched a debut album, DNA, that dominated the charts in Britain—which is why they’re now in North America to do the same.
And because any girl group worth their salt is all about individual style coming together in one sassy package, Little Mix has created a custom nail art tutorial with Toronto’s Pinky’s Nails.

Carly Rae Jepsen: Canada’s brightest new name in pop opens up on sudden fame, family ties and a certain fanboy named Bieber

Shop the October 2012 Carly Rae Jepsen cover shoot »The first thing to come out of Carly Rae Jepsen’s mouth after she rushes into Vancouver’s Sugar Studios, fresh off a flight from Los Angeles, is an apology. She wanted to arrive at her first fashion magazine cover shoot early, she tells the crew, but her driver had to “circle around the streets a bit” to shake off the paparazzi. The way she explains the schedule hiccup isn’t blasé, showy or even caustic. Jepsen’s honeyed tone conveys a blend of amazement and excitement that can only come from being nouveau famous. Unlike new wealth, freshly minted fame is not about flaunting what you have, it’s about being humble about what you’re worth.
At 26, the Mission, B.C., native has no reason to be modest right now. Ever since Carly Rae Jepsen’s song “Call Me Maybe” was unleashed last year, and fortuitously reintroduced to the Twittersphere by Justin Bieber (Jepsen is signed to Bieber’s U.S. label), the track has taken on a career of its own. It became a number one hit in 37 countries, achieving the kind of global success that has Lady Gaga going, well, gaga over it (Mother Monster tweeted “I’m coming after you” to Jepsen).
As of press time, Jepsen’s flirty anthem is 2012’s longest-reigning chart topper on the Billboard Hot 100. Armed with a lyrical hook that brings to mind the mania of Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Outta My Head,” Jepsen’s synth-laced cut is so omnipresent that nobody from her team calls it by its name. It’s referred to as “the song.” Will she be singing “the song” on The Tonight Show? Does she know Will Ferrell is protesting “the song” right now? Oh, my God, did you see what the hot guys on the baseball team from Harvard did with “the song”?

Dragonette’s newest album brings the brain and the bod back to the beat
It’s a scalding 32 degrees in lush Prince Edward County, two hours east of Toronto, and Canadian pop trio Dragonette is taking cover on a 52-acre woodland estate owned by lead singer Martina Sorbara’s family. Her dad, Greg, is a longtime Liberal MPP and former Ontario finance minister. The Sorbara compound is the group’s official HQ for the weekend. Cooling their heels in a man-made lake after a feverish tour cycle, the Juno winners—Sorbara, her husband, producer and bassist Dan Kurtz, and drummer Joel Stouffer—are trying to unwind. But a cellphone ring echoes among the flora, fauna and even a few fawns, and FASHION’s shoot in a converted barn turned photo studio calls them away from nature.

They said/We said: Kanye West continues on his quest to be a fashion icon by releasing a fashion film
In a strange but beautiful move, Kanye West has teamed up with fashion film icon Ruth Hogben (who’s worked with everyone from Gareth Pugh to Louis Vuitton) to produce a music video for “Lost in the World”—a single off his long-ago released album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
The black and white video (a signature of Hogben’s style) opens up with a warning that “strobe effects are used in this video,” a.k.a. things are about to get crazy… and do they ever. A group of dancing models gyrate around while dressed in sheer shirts (how very Kanye)—basically the video looks like a ‘90s Gap commercial on acid.

MEN’S FASHION: André 3000 on hair moods, ugly hands and a mythical Outkast album
André 3000, real name André Benjamin, along with actors Adrien Brody and Gael García Bernal, is featured in the Masters of Style campaign, created by Gillette to promote its recently introduced Fusion ProGlide Styler, a tool that combines the functions of shaver, trimmer and edger. Benjamin, too, is a triple-threat talent. As half of Outkast, the Atlanta-based duo, he became one of hip hop’s most acclaimed musicians. He has also won praise as a menswear designer since launching his label, Benjamin Bixby, in 2008. And as a dresser, he’s known for being one of the best. He’s been celebrated in fashion magazines, and in Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, an academic work of groundbreaking cultural history, his name shows up on the very first page.
Let’s catch up on the musical action. Last year, you earned a Grammy nomination for a track with Beyoncé. In February, Converse presented “Do Ya Thang,” your collaboration with James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, and Gorillaz. Is an Outkast album due to come out in 2012?
“To be honest, no, there is not an Outkast album in the works. I know there’s been a lot of talk in the internet world. I don’t have Twitter or Facebook or any of those kinds of things, so I haven’t had a chance to address it.” -
