Dragonette’s newest album brings the brain and the bod back to the beat
It’s a scalding 32 degrees in lush Prince Edward County, two hours east of Toronto, and Canadian pop trio Dragonette is taking cover on a 52-acre woodland estate owned by lead singer Martina Sorbara’s family. Her dad, Greg, is a longtime Liberal MPP and former Ontario finance minister. The Sorbara compound is the group’s official HQ for the weekend. Cooling their heels in a man-made lake after a feverish tour cycle, the Juno winners—Sorbara, her husband, producer and bassist Dan Kurtz, and drummer Joel Stouffer—are trying to unwind. But a cellphone ring echoes among the flora, fauna and even a few fawns, and FASHION’s shoot in a converted barn turned photo studio calls them away from nature.

Tour de Force: When makeup artist Gina Brooke needed a red lip colour that would withstand Madonna’s every stage move for her next tour, she called Make Up For Ever
By Celia Ellenberg
I kind of feel like we’re gonna get banned in Italy,” Gina Brooke jokes over her first coffee of the day. It’s around noon on a rainy May day in midtown Manhattan and the makeup artist is coming off another late-night-turned-early-morning rehearsal for Madonna’s MDNA tour. “The first section of the show, the first big song, is crazy. It’s super vixenish and she’s like this superwoman. It’s very sexy. Her hair, the eyes, the skin—it’s beautiful. She comes out and does something very controversial,” Brooke says, alluding to the “nip slip” that would be discussed around the world a few weeks later.

Q&A: Victoria Beckham chats fashion and motherhood with our editor-in-chief in Vancouver
Victoria Beckham is late. Not fashionably tardy. Not mildly delayed. She is a full two hours behind schedule. Cooling their Louboutin heels at a private luncheon at Holt Renfrew’s Vancouver store is an immaculately dressed group of top tier clients, some in chiffony Lanvin, a few poured into Beckham’s signature body-con shifts. Downstairs, fans have been gathering in a roped-off area near the cosmetics department since the doors opened at 10. They are hoping for a peek as Beckham poses for photographers on a podium. Her private jet touched down around noon, but a paperwork snafu has kept Beckham and her hair and makeup team frozen in some kind of cross-border limbo. The most annoyed? Her one-year-old daughter, Harper.
