Fashion news: LMVH may buy Rodarte, Roger Federer gets style tips from Anna Wintour, and Romans wore socks with sandals
Photography by Peter Stigter Looks like luxury giant LVMH is interested in purchasing Rodarte. The LA-based label has yet to pull in a profit–last year they made a meagre $2 million in sales, despite being the label on everyone’s lips. No deal has been made yet. [Fashionista]
Last night, tennis champ Roger Federer admitted that he often gets sartorial advice from none other than Anna Wintour. “I asked her about the pink color I was wearing last week and she was like, ‘Oh, you sure about that Roger?’ Too late now! But I got good reviews.” [The Cut]

See more of Rodarte’s ballerina costumes in the Black Swan trailer
I fondly remember my ballet instructor rolling her eyes at the scene in Center Stage where they have the soapy sponge fight in the empty studio of the prestigious New York studio. “That would never happen,” she said. I wonder what she’d say about Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky‘s (The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream) chilly […]

M.A.C pulls the Rodarte makeup collection
M.A.C has announced that they won’t be shipping the makeup collection created by Rodarte‘s Kate and Laura Mulleavy. The collection, which, like the pair’s Fall 2010 collection, was inspired by Mexico–specifically the troubled town of Ciudad Juárez. Controversy ignited around the line after some bloggers protested that the names of the products–a polish called “Juarez,” a lipstick named “Ghost Town”–glamourized poverty and violence against women in the factory town. M.A.C responded by offering to donate profits from the collection to charitable initiatives in Ciudad Juárez, but yesterday posted the following on their Facebook page:

The “psychological thriller set in the world of New York City ballet” stars Natalie Portman and features costumes by Rodarte. (Check out this stunner above.) Portman plays a ballerina who develops a twisted friendship with a rival dancer, played by Mila Kunis.

The new Lanvin freestanding store in New York–which, with fox fur benches and chandeliers sounds like an absolute retail reverie–officially postponed its opening because of electricity failures, but some well-to-do New Yorkers were allowed to shop by candlelight. [Racked]

Fashion news: Marc Jacobs’ guilty pleasure, fashion’s Farmville and Rodarte and M.A.C. apologize for their controversial line
Photo by Peter Stigter Rodarte and M.A.C Cosmetics have sparked quite the controversy with their recent makeup collaboration, where a nail lacquer shade was named after Juárez, a Mexican town that happens to be notorious for its high rape and murder rates. The Rodarte designers have already apologized, “We never intended to make light of this serious issue and we are truly sorry,” and M.A.C sent an email to editors saying they will be changing the name of the shade. [Vogue UK and The Cut]
Just because he designs for some of the world’s biggest luxury hounds, doesn’t mean Marc Jacobs doesn’t have time for the other side of the spectrum: “OK, recently I watched every episode of Jersey Shore‘s first season. I don’t know if it was any good and I certainly didn’t learn anything, but it was definitely hypnotic and it gave my brain a vacation.” [The Cut]
