Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013: Sid Neigum makes his latest case for colourless cool

Photography Jenna Marie Wakani See every look from Sid Neigum’s Spring 2013 collection »
Colour for spring? Pfft. Or at least, that’s what Sid Neigum’s Spring 2013 collection has convinced us. The Toronto-based Albertan showed a collection with long jersey dresses, fashion doo-rags, and majorly smoky eyes which when combined, created the ultimate cool girl look (look out Wang, Sid Neigum’s coming for you).
Neigum welcomed the reverse mullet cut to the runway—long in the front and bootyliciously short in the back—which is a necessary change from the current mullet craze out there on the mainstream market. The standout pieces of the show were the unexpected knits, ranging from a turtleneck dress to a grey oversized sweater piped with leather, the pieces were kind of a fashion reality check that made us realize knits are not only for fall.

Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013: Jean-Pierre Braganza updates his geometric edge with 28 big-city takes

Photography by Jenna Marie Wakani See the looks from Jean-Pierre Braganza’s show!
Way East at Toronto’s Andrew Richards Design, London-based designer Jean-Pierre Braganza returned home to present his third show as part of the ongoing offsite effort The ShOws. Once again, he played master of geometry, only this time, offsetting his zigzagging prints with loose flowing material that created a big city babe vibe.
The embodiment of Braganza’s sharp/slouch play was a three-piece tuxedo suit in which crisp lines at the top and flowing loose pants at the tips elongated models bodies (as if they needed the help). In Jean-Pierre Braganza’s signature style, he used asymmetry to create unique lines and shapes in every single look that walked down the runway.

Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013: Chloé Comme Parris dive deep into California culture

The twisted sisters behind favourite Toronto-label Chloé Comme Parris were back with a decidedly sunny disposition for Spring 2013, deep diving into California culture last night with their latest show at Toronto Fashion Week. Chloé and Parris Gordon prove their envious skills season after season (need an age refresher? They’re just 24 and 22 respectively), and this time around it was no different.
Opening with the CCP take on the three-piece suit (think neutral-on-neutral and a button-up to boot), the 23-look collection flowed from one to the next with soft shades, airy layers and floral watercolour prints. The duo’s signature double-layer effect was as well done on a navy shirtdress as it was a short pair of slit leather shorts. The piece de resistance, however, was a pale pink motorcycle jacket that featured a thin elastic strap through the back. (Maybe you’d never actually tie a motorcycle jacket up, but hey, it sure looks modern).

Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013: Laura Siegel’s desert-ready collection has sent us packing for the Sahara

Just add a desert and you’ve got the perfect background for Laura Siegel’s Spring 2013 collection. Instead of bring sand storms indoors; the first show of the inaugural year of The Collections featured models perched (some teetering) on wooden boxes with colourful cacti at their feet.
Adding to the pops of colour on the floor, the models had a case of pink eye—lids were lined in a bright verging on neon pink shadow and messy updos and braids were completed by streaks of fuchsia.

Blake Lively, Linda Evangelista, Elle Fanning and more! Who wore Chanel best on the Bijoux de Dimants red carpet?
Check out the looks from the Chanel red carpet and vote!
In the battle of who wears Chanel best, the victor is often not easy to spot. Last night in New York City Chanel celebrated the 80th anniversary of its Bijoux de Dimants collection and as a fashion house known to attract many celebrities, this event was no exception.
Blake Lively made her first public appearance since marrying Ryan Reynolds (he snuck in after her red carpet walk) and wore Chanel from the Fall 2012 Couture collection. It was paired with Christian Louboutin heels (she really doesn’t wear anything else), Chanel jewels and a newlywed glow—Blake Lively’s skin looked fantastic! Alexa Chung, who recently announced she will be writing a book, wore an embroidered piece from the brand’s pre-Spring 2013 collection. The voluminous dress makes her look like a young girl attending a birthday party, but we’re into it.

Lady Gaga’s already worn Hedi Slimane’s first Saint Laurent collection twice. Take that Cathy!

Photography by AFP/Getty Images and Alex Moss/FilmMagic Lady Gaga is no stranger to wearing designer wears, and it looks as though she couldn’t even wait a week to try on some of Hedi Slimane’s debut creations for Saint Laurent Paris.
The designer showed his much talked about Spring 2013 collection last Monday during Paris Fashion Week, and although it’s received much flak in the industry, Lady Gaga seems to be on Team Hedi, as the first to have worn pieces from his collection literally straight off the runway.

Get the look: 14 velvet shopping picks that will have you feeling oh so luxurious for less
Back in 1399, King Richard II of England wrote in his will that he should only be buried in velvet from head to toe (how regal!). While Richie may have taken the velvet trend a little too far back way back when, we’re still dreaming about draping ourselves in velvet in 2012. What could be more luxurious?
This fall, we saw velvet on the runway of Gucci as well as voluminous pieces made by Dolce & Gabbana. These lush pieces were then snapped up by celebrities like Katy Perry who looked pretty as a princess in Dolce at her movie premiere in Los Angeles and Kim Kardashian who wore the low-cut Gucci number with Tom Ford chain heels while promoting Midori.

Balenciaga wants you to interview Kristen Stewart (But it might be difficult to ask her about RPatz)
For all you Kristen Stewart fans who are just dying to know the juicy details about her recent foray into the world of fashion and fragrance, here’s how you can get your answers!
Over the weekend it was announced that Kristen Stewart will be answering questions live on October 18 from the Balenciaga fragrance website. Granted, the usually private star will probably avoid any Robert Pattinson queries—but knowing how crafty K.Stew fans can be, we’re sure at least one of you will compose a fragrance-related question that will include a way to confirm the rumours that they’re back together.

Paris Fashion Week Spring 2013 Street Style: We spot Chloë Sevigny, Emma Stone, Marc Jacobs and Dianna Agron on the last day of shows

Photography by Stefania Yarhi See the final batch of street style photos from fashion month!
And that’s a wrap! Paris Fashion Week Spring 2013 has come to a close. Please excuse us while we sob into our keyboards. Stefania Yarhi, our street style photographer, worked her magic outside of the shows and finished off fashion month by photographing a surprising set of street stylers, but it’s an exciting batch of photos nonetheless.
Fashion month ended with shows from Louis Vuitton, Ellie Saab, and Miu Miu. A collection from Miuccia Prada is pretty alluring, so alluring that young Hollywood starlets hopped on a plane and left Los Angeles just to sit in the front row. Sassy Glee star, Dianna Agron kicked it old school with mod spider lashes and a clean pulled back pony and Emma Stone showed up with an extremely bold lip she accessorized with a man carrying an umbrella for her. Is it wrong to say we liked this umbrella-holder’s “OMG” hoodie a lot?
Chloë Sevigny was also in attendance, which makes a lot of sense considering she’s been the face of Miu Miu a couple times, and she was looking like the young starlets super cool older sister in a mixed print short suit.

Front Row Battles: From Emma Stone and Dianna Agron at Miu Miu to Lana Del Rey and Alexa Chung at Mulberry, who did Spring 2013 FROW best?

Photography courtesy of Miu Miu Check out our front row pictures from Spring 2013 Fashion Week! »
Front row seating at the Spring 2013 Fashion Week collections has been an exciting who’s-who jumble of predictable favourites and amazing surprises this year.
Miu Miu’s Spring 2013 collection was presented today in Paris, with Glee’s Dianna Agron front and centre of the It girl mélage that came to check out Miuccia’s latest creations. Looking quite mod, she wore a ‘60s look of a turquoise dress, blue heels and purple tights, all by Miu Miu. Dianna Agron was seen with actress Amanda Seyfried who was wearing a Prada suit, Emma Stone and Felicity Jones both in Miu Miu and fashion week fixture and designer herself Chloë Sevigny. The girls looked like they were about star in the brand’s latest campaign, although Sevigny can already boast about that.

Inside the Carine Roitfeld for M.A.C launch party in Paris: 37 photos of Kanye West, Rachel Zoe, Karl Lagerfeld and more getting down with the world’s most stylish grandma
See the Carine Roitfeld M.A.C Cosmetics party photos »
If who comes to your party is an indication of your popularity, then Carine Roitfeld is the most popular girl in Paris. The list of attendees at last night’s European launch of her special M.A.C Cosmetics collection (which ironically leaves Canadian shelves tomorrow) runs the gamut of fashion’s biggest and best.
Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino Garavani, Azzedine Alaia, Nicolas Ghesquière, Riccardo Tisci, Mario Testino, Giambattista Valli, Haider Ackermann, Anna Dello Russo, Kanye West, Natalia Vodianova, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and many, many more turned up last night to toast the former Vogue Paris chief, editor of her own magazine and world’s most stylish grandma.

Hedi Slimane versus Cathy Horyn: How their beef went from passive aggressive non-invites to a fully publicized snarkfest

Photography by Peter Stigter The claws have come out in the battle of Hedi Slimane vs. Cathy Horyn. After making his guestlist, and checking it twice, Slimane chose to exclude The New York Times critic from his debut collection for Saint Laurent. WWD was quick to point out the fact that Cathy Horyn was missing from the show, and Horyn, who is known for being a bit of a loud mouth—she recently called Oscar De La Renta a hotdog—did not keep quiet about her exclusion from the show.
Horyn wrote her New York Times review based off the photos and cleared the air about her lack of attendance by saying, “I was not invited. Despite positive reviews of his early YSL and Dior collections, as well as a profile, Mr. Slimane objected bitterly to a review I wrote in 2004 — not about him but Raf Simons. Essentially I wrote that without Mr. Simons’s template of slim tailoring and street casting, there would not have been a Hedi Slimane — just as there would never have been a Raf Simons without Helmut Lang. Fashion develops a bit like a genetic line.”
