NYFW diary: Prabal Gurung, Tommy Hilfiger’s anniversary show, and celeb-spotting at every turn
Saturday
While you lovelies were brunching and cocktailing over the weekend, I’ve was hard at work celeb-spotting at the Lincoln Centre (I spy: Carmen Electra, Kristin Bell, J. Lo, Bradley Cooper, Neil Patrick Harris, Aisha Tyler, Kelly Osbourne, Kimora Lee Simmons, Chris Bosh, Rebecca Romijn, Christina Hendricks, and so on, and so on), crossing Manhattan several times a day to attend the shows and trying to avoid the dreaded fashion week blisters that come with this job. Happily, Saturday was a sunny day in every way.Blue skies and Lacoste first up on the schedule. Creative director Christophe Lemaire nailed his version of sporty chic (lots of white, sleeveless polos, perforated short shorts and graphic prints) before heading off next season to Hermès. Was the orange carpet rolled out at Lacoste simply a cheeky way of jumping onto the saddle, so to speak?

Fashion news: Naomi Campbell testifies in Alaia, Gisele apologizes for breastfeeding comments and Tommy Hilfiger’s son arrested
Because it is of the utmost importance what one wears to testify at a war crimes tribunal, consider yourself informed that Naomi Campbell took the stand at Charles Taylor‘s trial “wearing a cream-colored knit dress and cardigan from Azzedine Alaia’s spring/summer collection” “with matching high-heeled sandals and a choker necklace, her hair tied in a bun with two loose strands and a heavy bangs framing her face.” [WWD, National Post ]Twas Tweeted: “Is it wrong to wear a CHANEL dinner jacket with a T shirt to the airport if it’s still breakfast time out here in Singapore uugh TOO LATE!” tweets Kanye West, who should know that a dinner jacket is never wrong. Tommy Hilfiger is launching their new line in Canada first
Tommy Hilfiger is launching a new men’s and women’s line, dubbed Tommy, that targets twentysomethings and takes aim at the market share of American Apparel, Gap, and Abercrombie & Fitch. And as a change from the waiting game that Canadians usually have to play for these things, the company will be launching the new concept […]

Fashion news: Balmain hair extensions, Ungaro up for sale and Lady Gaga to design sunglasses?
We read something today that we still haven’t fully absorbed: You can get Balmain hair extensions. We assume these aren’t Christophe Decarnin-designed, but instead one of the company’s many licenses. (Check out this DIY Balmain jeans from Auntie Fashion, created using a $5 Balmain men’s dress shirt from Sears.) You can buy clip-in purple or red fringe and extensions in “Level 10” blonde. Emanuel Ungaro keeps taking hit after hit. After the LiLo debacle and closing down it’s massive Madison Avenue boutique (which rumour has it will be taken over by Michael Kors), the brand is now apparently on the hunt for a buyer to take over its debt and tainted rep. Any takers? [NYP]

Fashion news: The Alber-to-replace-Lagerfeld rumour pops up again, a Karl salad, Peter Nygård drops suit against the CBC and more
Since street style photog Tommy Ton tweeted “I received some news tonight that is going to SHAKE the fashion world in the next two days. CRAZY!!!!” during Paris Fashion week, we have been going crazy awaiting the news. Word on the street is that Karl Lagerfeld‘s turn at Chanel is coming to an end, and that he will be passing the baton to Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz. We’ve heard this before, so take this rumour with a big grain of salt. [Grazia AU]
In other Lagerfeld news, he will have an Alaskan king crab salad named after him at Paris’ La Giola restaurant. [WWD]
Madonna‘s new fashion brand status opens up the world of collaboration (and world domination at this point). After signing a deal last week that will enable the material girl’s brand, MG Icon, to have hands in multiple existing brands as well as to start new ones, news comes today of the first partnership between Madonna and Dolce & Gabbana–sunglasses. Fashion news: Gaga’s on the Telephone in a bedazzed bikini, the Hilfiger/Axl fight and Steve Madden for Madonna for Macy’s
The video for Lady Gaga‘s “Telephone,” featuring Beyoncé is out. In it, Gaga wears a gigantic black and white striped jacket and a bedazzled G-string bikini–in prison. Beyoncé’s outfits include a yellow latex dress with matching cowboy hat (and eyeshadow!). There’s more, obviously.
Model-turned-filmmaker Rie Rasmussen has beef with Terry Richardson and his approach to photography: “He takes girls who are young, manipulates them to take their clothes off and takes pictures of them they will be ashamed of.” Rasumssen ran into Richardson at a party and told him the same thing, in so many words; “I told him what you do is completely degrading to women. I hope you know you only [bleep] girls because you have a camera, lots of fashion contacts and get your pictures in Vogue.” [The Cut]
Steve Madden is apparently going to create the shoes for Madonna’s Material Girl collection for Macy’s. [WWD]
After abruptly shutting down shops at the beginning of the year, Yohji Yamamo has announced that the company will have a men’s fashion show in Tokyo on April 1. The collection itself is still in the works. [Daily Front Row]

Anna’s ’90s casual look, Olivia Palermo launches jewellery line, Annie Leibovitz designs for Vuitton
Yes it’s true, even Anna Wintour made the same horrendous fashion faux pas of the early ’90s as everyone else: she rocked embroidered sweatshirts paired with pink leggings and ballet flats. I also spy an additional sweater tied around Anna’s waist. Shameful, but we all went there, didn’t we? [Huffington Post]
Sam Haskins, known for his fashion photography that has inspired stylists and designers for the past 30 years, has a new book coming out called Fashion Etcetera. The book was published in partnership with Tommy Hilfiger, who has paid homage to Haskins’ work in recent years. Haskins is currently in hospital recovering from a stroke he sustained last week. New York: Tommy Hilfiger, Malandrino, Ports 1961, Calvin Klein and Zac Posen Fall 2009
Don’t you just love starting the day with a tea and a little Tommy?
My first show of the day was Tommy Hilfiger, but before I talk clothes, I must talk crushes. My main squeeze—well, officially Diane Kruger’s—is Joshua Jackson. He brought along his million-dollar smile, baby face and jet black Wayfarers (and Kruger). Aw, Pacey….you’re all grown up but dang, you have that boyish charm down pat.
