Five photographers take on the calla lily for the launch of Cavin Klein Beauty

Photography by Natasha V. One understands the loveliness of the calla lily, its austerity offset with swooping curves. Keep in mind Diane Kruger, sleek in stark white Calvin Klein, at the Met gala in May, and you have a picture of how the flower fits into the Calvin Klein brand and became the inspiration for Beauty, its latest scent, for which the actress is the face.
The fragrance launched in Toronto last week with a soirée at the Terrace Room at the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art. To celebrate the launch, FASHION (sponsor of the event) commissioned five photographers–Caitlin Cronenberg, Karen Roze, Jody Rogac, Natasha V. and Davida Nemeroff–to interpret the calla lily in their own style.

NYFW Diary: Wild West at Ralph Lauren and minimalism at Jeremy Laing
It’s the last day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week but it’s not a teary farewell. After all, I get to start my morning off with a little classic Americana–Ralph Lauren!
Judging from all the fringe, cowgirl jackets, suede and blanket patterns seen on his spring runway, it looks like we’re heading to the ranch with Ralph. Even Lauren’s wife, Ricky Lauren, got into the country cool spirit in her fringe-y little jacket.

Fashion news: Donatella Versace bemoans the loss of egos, Robert Duffy learns the power of Twitter, and a mani at the auto shop

Photography by Peter Stigter Donatella Versace just wants fashion to be a fun, ego-fuelled mania again–like the good old days. To wit: Kristen McMenamy and Linda Evangelista once battled over who had blonde hair with black roots first. “I was called on as a witness to say who was the first to do black roots in blonde hair. At the time Steven Miesel was really inventing the look of the girls in this way, so I knew who was first: Kristen.” At another show, McMenamy allegedly stole one of Evangelina’s fake boobs. That does actually sound like a lot of fun. [Independent, via The Cut]

Jonny Johansson, the founder of Acne, has said he would like his label to be recognized for more than their slim fitting jeans. The brand is also home to a full clothing line as well as a magazine Johansson started called Acne Paper. This collective began with Johansson’s past dabbling in furniture design, music and fashion—with the full name of Ambition to Create Novel Expressions an indicator of the far-reaching creative abilities of the man behind the jeans company. A collaboration with Alber Elbaz has taken Acne into a luxury standard and higher price point—giving the company its much-deserved appreciation in the design community and building its rep. New York: Tommy Hilfiger, Malandrino, Ports 1961, Calvin Klein and Zac Posen Fall 2009

ZAC POSEN Fall 2009 Photography by Peter Stigter Don’t you just love starting the day with a tea and a little Tommy?
My first show of the day was Tommy Hilfiger, but before I talk clothes, I must talk crushes. My main squeeze—well, officially Diane Kruger’s—is Joshua Jackson. He brought along his million-dollar smile, baby face and jet black Wayfarers (and Kruger). Aw, Pacey….you’re all grown up but dang, you have that boyish charm down pat.
