New York Fashion Week Spring 2013: Why J.Crew can do no wrong, plus our top 5 picks from yesterday’s shows
It was a whirlwind day of running between shows and showrooms, but I’ve managed to suss out five of the best offerings of the day, beginning with the most unexpected one from Oscar de la Renta. From a man known for glamorous gowns and ladylike day-wear, it was a surprise to see Karlie Kloss open the show in a latex top and skin-tight pencil skirt. Clearly courting a younger contingent, uncharacteristically punky coloured streaks were added to wispy beehives and billowy shorts suits were on offer for evening. Is Oscar abandoning his core clientele? I seriously doubt it, but it’s always refreshing to see a designer throw us a curveball and stretch his style beyond the expected.

Outside Lands style snaps: Our 10 favourite looks from San Francisco’s hippest music festival
The Outside Lands festival celebrated it’s fifth birthday this past weekend in the legendary Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and over 65, 000 people a day grooved to the tunes of Stevie Wonder, Jack White, The Kills, Bloc Party, Tanlines, Of Monsters and Men and Santigold. Known for SF’s obsessed foodie culture, Outside Lands’ food trucks almost stole the show with to-die-for fried chicken ‘n’ waffles, bacon funnel cakes, and pork belly buns. Style notes: the temps are chilly so expect at least three layers consisting of tank, sweater, leather jacket plus scarf, hat and gloves, all of course done in an effortless SF cool with a tinge of southwestern boho chic. See our favourite looks from the weekend.

Lollapalooza Style Snaps: 23 shots of bejewelled hairpieces, neon brights and fringe-wearing festivalgoers rocking out in Chicago
It seems like half of Canada spent last weekend in Quebec for Osheaga and the Montreal Fashion & Design Festival and the other half headed southwest to Chicago for Lollapalooza. And while both festivals had their fair share of rain, Lolla attendees showed off some sweet summer styles right through to Sunday night. Check out our shots from Grant Park by Toronto photographer Jillian Lockwood—fringe skirts, American flag-print cut-offs and loads of brightly-coloured items were popular as ever.

Osheaga 2012: 45 photos of cut-off clad festivalgoers (and Florence Welch!) braving the heat in Montreal this weekend
It’s no small feat to stay stylish and festival-ready when Mother Nature decides to cram lightning, torrential rain and paralyzing heat into the space of three short days, but as a whole, Osheaga’s festivalgoers managed to take the unpredictable weather this past weekend fashionably in stride.
Though typical festival garb showed up in full force (think flower crowns, ratty shorts and boho fringe), there was a decidedly more feminine and ‘50s-inspired sartorial lean. From a mint gingham halter dress to a bralette-and-circle-skirt combo, Osheaga’s female attendees somehow managed to strike a Betty-Draper-meets-Pocahontas golden mean, adding in unexpected elements to their femme pieces like an oversized pewter shark tooth or Montauk moccasins.

Now that S.S. Coachella exists, we have somewhere to wear Cruise collections! Get the scoop and see our 10 fantasy clothing picks
Check out our resort wear picks! »
Weezer’s Caribbean cruise sounded unreal and all, but the most recently announced concert-cruise blows Weezer’s out of the water (pun intended): Coachella organizers have just announced that they’ll be taking to international waters this December as S.S. Coachella, a 2,800-person capacity vessel packed full of indie favourites like Hot Chip, Girl Talk and Yeasayer. The ocean landscape is a far cry from the festival’s usual arid locale in Indio, California, and we have a feeling the heat exhaustion, up-to-the-knee mud splatters and disgusting port-a-potties won’t be missed too much (though they may be replaced by seasickness for some).

Music festival style snaps: Pitchfork 2012
Despite a torrential downpour and sticky sweaty temps, music lovers hit Chicago this weekend for the annual Pitchfork Music Festival to see Feist, Sleigh Bells, Grimes, Dirty Projectors, Vampire Weekend and more perform on stage. In and amongst the crowds, Toronto vintage gal Lauren Baker attempted to shoot some of the cutest gals (not an easy task amidst the rain!) Lady Gaga was spotted in the crowd as well, but alas, we didn’t snap her. Here are some of our Gaga-less faves.
