We match up Tom Ford’s latest scents with the men of A Single Man
After seeing Tom Ford’s spectacular directorial debut, A Single Man, my friend compared it to a two-hour long perfume commercial. She meant this as a compliment. The film contains characters of real dimension and weight, and sex appeal, which can also be said of the fragrances Ford himself has created. Ford had a hand in […]

Fashion news: Crystal Renn outposes in V, McQueen shoes are even scary for models, a B.O. fragrance and more
Photo by Terry Richardson for V. Via Models.com Shots from V‘s upcoming and already over-hyped “plus-size issue” are out. Terry Richardson’s “One Size Fits All” features side-by-side shots of Jacquelyn Jablonski and a not-really-plus-sized Crystal Renn in the same pose in the same outfit. It’s worth noting that Renn out-vogues Jablonski at every turn. [Models.com, via Fashionista]
Fashion stylist is apparently the when-I-grow-up job of the aughts. Except for celebrity stylist, which according to 10 editor Sophia Neophitou is “something you just don’t want to become.” Take that, Zoe-ophytes. [Times UK]

Fashion news: Lanvin’s spring campaign looks windy, Gaultier does sailor-inspired footwear, smell like Beyoncé, and more
Jamie Bochert is headlining the Lanvin ads for spring 2010. “I thought maybe we need a bit of action,” said artistic director Alber Elbaz. Shot by photographer Steven Meisel, the campaign has Bochert running, bending and dodging in feminine Lanvin ruffles. Bochert also poses over a toilet in Marc Jacobs’ spring campaign. [WWD]
Beyoncé is launching her first fragrance. Heat comes out at the end of January, inspired by all the pyrotechnics a Beyoncé concert demands. “A lot of my performances have had fire involved, so we thought ‘Heat,’” the singer told WWD. Suffice to say, the ads will be steamy. [WWD]

The daily steal: Solid perfume, $16
I don’t wear fragrance on a regular basis, but there’s something totally irresistible about the little pots of solid perfume from Mélange ($16, melangeperfume.com). They come in 28 scents, such as Amber Noir, Honeysuckle, Asian Pear and Black Ginger & White Tea, that you can mix together for a custom blend. I love that I […]

Diddy sells fragrance, changes lives on HSN
Sean Diddy Combs’ debut on the Home Shopping Network last night gave us a personal look at the producer-cum-rapper-cum-entrepreneur. Diddy’s brand of self-promotion is one that translated well to the cheesiness of HSN, making the channel cool by association with his fragrances selling out in a mere 16 minutes. We spent 11 minutes and 35 seconds of our life watching Diddy and a fawning Kate-Gosselin-a-like host hawk the Sean John Ultra Plush Fleece Robe in black, gunmetal and white with “satiny tone-on-tone striping” for $59.90 and here’s what we learned. (Video after the jump.)

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have designed a jewellery collection called The Protector for Asprey. The line features snake-themed necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings in gold and silver. The snake coil jewellery was inspired by a ring worn by Jolie while pregnant with Shiloh that’s since become a symbol of protection to the couple. Profits will go to the couple’s charity of choice, Education Partnership for Children of Conflict. [WWD]

Fashion news: Crayon rings, music hearts fashion and a Dolce dress debacle
GIAMBATTISTA VALLI Fall 2009. Photography by Peter Stigter Issey Miyake speaks out for the first time on his experiences as a child in Hiroshima. “I have tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to put them behind me, preferring to think of things that can be created, not destroyed, and that bring beauty and joy. I gravitated toward the field of clothing design, partly because it is a creative format that is modern and optimistic.” [NYTimes]
Giambattista Valli has signed a licensing deal with Italy’s Mariella Burani Fashion Group. He isn’t saying yet what’s in store, just “I want to be known for all the parts of the wardrobe, not just the cocktail and evening dresses.” [StyleFile]
We eagerly await Tilda Swinton’s appearance in Pringle of Scotland’s Spring 2010 ads. [The Cut]

Vancouver: The smell of NYC
Vanilla Bath Foam from Sabon I visited New York for the first time last week, and the bounty of boutiques and shops for every taste really blew me away. It really is endless.
When I compare New York and Vancouver, I question which of these two places I prefer. In New York, the world is at a fashionista’s fingertips. The variety of styles available is incredibly exciting. But then I wonder what there is to look forward to in the world, if you already have it all. In that respect, being in New York gave me a greater sense of fondness and appreciation for Vancouver’s boutiques. Their rarity makes them that much more special.
