Golden Globes 2013: Our 4 favourite hair and makeup trends from the red carpet
See our top beauty trends from the 2013 Golden Globes »
While there were many head-turning moments on the red carpet at last night’s Golden Globes Awards, four beauty trends stand out above the rest. Blue eyeshadow is making a strong case for its return in popularity—but don’t fret, this isn’t the pastel shade that dominated the ’80s. Kerry Washington wore blue with a multi-dimensional shimmer and Nicole Kidman used it add some colour to her otherwise almost-monochrome look. Lena Dunham and Anne Hathaway showed us two ways to style short hair—we’ll let you decide who did it better. Also interesting: A number of stars opted to keep it simple, forgoing the typical updo and letting their hair down for a natural look on the red carpet. And if you thought there was a lot of red and orange last night, what about the lipstick? We reveal who took home the award for best lip colour at last night’s Golden Globes.

Golden Globes 2013: 23 of the red carpet’s biggest, baddest and most beautiful dresses
See our photos from the Golden Globes 2013 red carpet »
Last night’s 70th annual Golden Globe Awards was a pretty epic lesson in red carpet trends. From the bright colours to the mermaid tails to the boob shows, the A-list all seemed to have consulted with each other’s stylists before arriving at the event. Red rose to the top of the colour charts, making bright appearances on Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture, Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta and Claire Danes in Versace. Richer shades were worn by Naomi Watts in Zac Posen, Taylor Swift in Donna Karan Atelier and Lena Dunham in Zac Posen (the verdict’s still out on Dunham’s dress, though we really don’t like to speak negatively about such a precious human).
Pastels also seemed a strong message on the red carpet, with every hue in the candy coated rainbow being tested against the natural beauty of the night’s various stars. Jessica Alba‘s signature bronzed glow was offset by her creamsicle orange Oscar de la Renta trumpet gown. Meanwhile, Golden Globe winner Jessica Chastain chose the most ideal aquamarine on the colour wheel for her Calvin Klein gown. Bravo!
On the flip side, stark black and white (and even a combo of both with Julianne Moore’s graphic black and white Tom Ford column dress) predictably showed up en masse on stars like Anne Hathaway in beaded white Chanel, Amanda Seyfried in stunning white Givenchy and Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman, who were both clear standouts in statement-making black Alexander McQueen dresses.
And the mermaid tails, oh those mermaid tails. Thought they were retired? Think again. The ole pyramid hem is proving to be on a clear comeback, as worn by Amy Adams, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Jessica Alba.
As for the aforementioned boob-show, one flip through out Golden Globe red carpet gallery would show quite the bountiful selection. And really, is there much wrong with that?

Penelope Cruz stars in Campari’s 2013 calendar and we’ve got a photo for each month!
See the Penelope Cruz Campari calendar photos »
With a new year just around the corner, what better way to kick it off then with a toast from Campari with its new calendar, featuring actress Penelope Cruz.
The spirit company has enlisted the Spanish A-lister to star in the 2013 version of its calendar, which was shot by Paris-based photographer Kristian Schuller.
The theme of the calendar “Kiss Superstition Goodbye” is centered on the number 13 and various other superstitions, and features 13 dramatic images of Cruz with broken mirrors, black cats, umbrellas opened indoors and her stepping on a crack in pavement, all while enjoying a Campari cocktail of course.
The fashion she wears in the calendar is also quite dramatic, with Cruz showcasing 13 different red ensembles from designers such as Monique Lhuillier, Emilio Pucci and Salvatore Ferragamo, with jewellery by Chopard.

View the New York Fashion Week street style photos »
The street style in and around the last two days of New York Fashion Week’s Spring 2013 shows were a frenzy of varsity jackets (Opening Ceremony), motorcycle jackets (Acne) see-through bags (from Kenzo to Claire’s) and Asian-inspired printed silks (Proenza Schouler, obv) jealousy-inducing heels (and even a few flats) as shot by our street style photographer Stefania Yarhi. Amidst the madness, Bill Cunningham was playing with some adorable bulldogs. You better bet we caught that too.

Jessica Alba and Kim Kardashian both hit up the blonde dye bottles this weekend
While the change of seasons often inspires a turn to darker hair colours, both Jessica Alba and Kim Kardashian added blonde ombré highlights over the weekend. Last Thursday, Alba tweeted “bye bye brown hair” before spending two days in the salon to perfectly lighten the ends of her naturally dark hair.

Brad Goreski on growing up gay, his biggest fashion faux pas and the end of Fashion Television
Since breaking into the public eye as Rachel Zoe’s quick-witted (and incredibly patient) styling assistant, Brad Goreski has built an empire of sorts. The Canadian export has his own Bravo TV series It’s a Brad, Brad World, an A-list clientele including Jessica Alba, and is the exclusive stylist to Kate Spade. Most recently, Goreski wrote a candid, self-effacing memoir called Born to Be Brad, in which he details his progression from a high school outsider in Port Perry, Ontario to a fashion insider warming the front row seats at Fashion Week. We chatted with the stylist when he was at Brooks Brothers in Toronto to promote his new book, Born to be Brad, (with Heather Marks, to boot!) about everything from Bono sunglasses to shaggy fur to Japanese house slippers:

NYFW diary: Proenza Schouler heads east, Michael Kors goes north, and Marchesa channels Joan of Arc
Nothing like a surefire collection to make stock market bells ring, right? At Michael Kors’ Fall 2012 showing—the first since his company went public in December—he pulled out all the stops to make the registers go ka-ching. The celeb-filled front row, including Jessica Alba, Stacy Keibler, Anjelica Huston, and Debra Messing (and me, in case you were wondering), oohed and ahhed over the heritage-style buffalo-check skirts, overcoats, and capes, the sequined flapper evening gowns, and the ultra-glam layered furs. The designer’s colour of the season, red, was particularly winning on a retro tailored overcoat combo’d with removable fur collar that was elongated to one side. It was that Bay-blanket feel but double the luxe.

They said/We said: Donatella rejects a shoot of real women wearing Versace for H&M. But who is the collection for?
After a star studded-launch party and months of waiting, the Versace for H&M collection will finally be available to the fashion-hungry masses this weekend. We’ve seen the collection on campaign star Abbey Lee Kershaw and celebs like Blake Lively and Jessica Alba, but to see the clothes in print and on real women, the fast-fashion retailer’s target buyers, would have been refreshing.
New York Daily News planned to do a feature on real New Yorkers wearing pieces from the collection but it’s reported that the shoot was cancelled at the last minute. An H&M publicist explained to the Daily News that Donatella has to approve anyone who wears the collection for press and that she probably won’t approve of real women wearing the clothes. Apparently, the publicist was right. When the writer sent the publicist pictures of the three women to be approved, only one was deemed acceptable while the other two “didn’t fit Versace’s branding.”
The “normal” women were being considered for a feature on real people, not for a high-fashion editorial—H&M designer collaborations are meant to bring high-fashion to the masses. Lets thank god Donatella doesn’t approve our Facebook photos…
