TIFF 2013: Amy Poehler and Matthew Weiner get the Grey Goose Soho House party started early on Saturday

The shadowy main floor of Soho House had sunlight streaming in on Saturday afternoon for an earlier-than-usual start time to the day’s TIFF 2013 Grey Goose festivities. For the television obsessed, the You Are Here party was about as good as it gets: the film is Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner’s big screen debut and the stacked cast includes SNL alum Amy Poehler. In keeping with the girl power vibe we’ve come to know and love Poehler for, she spent most of the party seated in conversation with a large group of women—only when she got up to go to the bathroom did outsiders dare approach to sing her praises. (Two partygoers may or not have applied an excessive amount of lipstick in said bathroom in hopes of a at-the-sink meet cute to no success.)
Weiner, meanwhile, worked the room like a pro. His mingling was so on point—making sure to catch up with every VIP in the room—that I half expected him to come over and say hello. A girl can dream!
Also representing TV land was Lauren Lapkus—who’s part of the cast of Orange Is the New Black, dressed in an on-theme floral dress. But it was Laura Ramsey, flanked by her dapper designer boyfriend Greg Chait (of Elder Statesman), who won outfit of the night. Her all-black ensemble by Jenni Kayne consisted of perfectly tailored trousers and a top with sheer cap sleeves that were connected to a cape—very Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford at the Oscars. Basically: add “capes” to your fall shopping list now.
And in keeping its reputation alive as the place to be during TIFF, talent streamed in the doors of Soho House all night long despite no other official film parties being on the agenda. Sandra Bullock, fresh from the Venice Film Festival, made it her first destination after arriving in Toronto ahead of today’s Gravity premiere. Also in attendance were Dakota Fanning, Rachel McAdams, Jason Reitman and Susan Saradon. And Chris Hemsworth may have the best younger brother ever: Liam was spotted at Soho House last night which has us predicting that he’ll join Chris on the Rush red carpet tonight—just like he did last week in London.

TIFF 2013: Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska debut their couple status at The Double’s after-party

In celeb land, sometimes the moment’s there and sometimes it ain’t. And it was most certainly the latter for our friend Kevin Naulls of Toronto Life, who received quite The Social Network-worthy brush off from a one Jesse Eisenberg at last night’s after-party for The Double, a film which he co-stars in with girlfriend Mia Wasikowska. The actor was deep in conversation and was fairly perturbed at the intrusion. He managed pleasantries, albeit curt ones. Guess everyone isn’t a Gay Witch fan?

TIFF 2013: Jennifer Garner, Matthew McConaughey and the scoop from the Dallas Buyers Club dinner and party

While King Street West is getting a ton of TIFF action this year, Dundas West is becoming a notable neighbourhood thanks to Hudson Kitchen. The newly-opened space made headlines on Friday when it was revealed that Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and the rest of the 12 Years A Slave cast sat down for a post-screening dinner there. Last night the restaurant’s private dining room saw even more A-list action when Jennifer Garner, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto attended a pre-screening dinner for Dallas Buyers Club. (Needless to say, a reservation at Hudson Kitchen will be in high demand once TIFF ends.)
McConaughey’s impressive-scary weight loss for his leading role in Dallas Buyers Club was still visible last night, but it was certainly more of a healthy-skinny than “omg this is alarming.” After dinner at Hudson Kitchen and walking the red carpet for the film’s TIFF premiere, McConaughey, Garner and Leto arrived at Cibo Wine Bar for the official after party, presented by Audi. Unlike some of the cozier TIFF parties I’ve been to, the Dallas Buyers Club party was a massive affair—in a massive venue—and the talent was hidden away from the eager eyes of attendees. However, despite not catching a glimpse of Jennifer Garner’s pretty lace Dolce & Gabbana dress IRL, partygoers enjoyed Italian snacks and glasses of wine late into the night.

TIFF 2013: Adam Levine does shots with Harvey Weinstein inside the Hudson Bay’s Can A Song Save Your Life after-party

Hudson’s Bay went all out once again for the first of two annual TIFF bashes, this year in conjunction with Can A Song Save Your Life, the star-studded flick lead by Keira Knightley and singer-turned-actor Adam Levine. Splashing its signature stripes all over King Street West resto Patria, the retailer’s stylish presence was felt from Knightley’s The Room-worthy Mary Katrantzou dress to the Bay blanket pillows that dressed bottle service banquettes. As with most every post-film party, the A-list holds court in a corner on the patio, with all eyes on them all night. Lucky for us, that corner just so happened to be where we settled with our Grey Goose Le Fizz cocktails in hand.

TIFF 2013: Inside the Words And Pictures pre-party with Juliette Binoche and Clive Owen’s moustache
See the Words and Pictures party images »
The first thing I saw when my cab pulled up to Blowfish Restaurant on King Street West for the Words and Pictures TIFF pre-party was Juliette Binoche, a vision in noir charming the cameras outside. With a chic, cropped hair cut and immaculate, glowing skin, she looked every bit the movie star, even if the September air was a tad balmy for her stunning full-length fur coat—the French actress later revealed that it was vintage Lanvin, her sheer, black gown Chanel.
Arriving before Binoche, who had just flown in from Germany, was her co-star Clive Owen, sporting a perfectly-fitted suit and what can only be described as the most attractive moustache ever. The rakish Brit nibbled on sushi and sipped Moët & Chandon on a banquet at the back of the restaurant but when Binoche made her entrance, he rose to greet her with a warm hug and peck on the cheek. The two showed they are clearly more than just co-stars, sitting next to each other and catching up with director Fred Schepisi. While both actors spent the evening chatting and posing for photos with their admirers, their co-star David Negahban of Homeland fame also had a large following of impassioned fans.

TIFF 2013: Jason Bateman brings a packed house to the Bad Words party at James Perse

If you’ve ever wanted an excuse to be pushed up against Jason Bateman‘s chest, last night’s party for Bad Words was the place to be. Held in the James Perse Boutique, the minimalist Yorkville shop reached maximum capacity to celebrate the film’s TIFF premiere—which, based on the tweets of fans and critics alike, is sure to be the next big dark comedic hit. (And also the reason why the film’s producers spent just as much time outside the party closing deals as they did inside enjoying the Mexican-themed drinks and treats.)

TIFF 2013: Inside Friday night’s Grey Goose Soho House parties with Daniel Radcliffe, Zac Efron and more!

Adolescent fantasy worlds nearly collided last night when Daniel Radcliffe aka Mr. Harry Potter himself and High School Musical’s Zac Efron attended back-to-back TIFF 2013 parties at Grey Goose Soho House. Radcliffe was there first to celebrate Horns, his Kafka-esque new film about a young man who starts growing horns after his girlfriend’s death; earlier in the day the star hammed it up on the red carpet in a devil headband. Grey Goose cocktails with festival-ready names like Torontini were passed around as Radcliffe and his beautiful blonde co-star Juno Temple posed for chummy photos by the fireplace before heading out into the night.
Efron arrived shortly after, looking dapper as ever in a slim-cut grey suit. The Disney heartthrob held court on a plush leather sofa in one corner with his Parkland co-stars Tom Welling, Paul Giamatti and Colin Hanks, the spitting image of his father Tom (seriously, it was like watching Big). It was clearly boys’ night out as the posse chatted and chowed down on quinoa salad together. Hanks was easiest to spot as he worked the room, basically towering over his costars who, like most actors, were all much smaller in real life.

TIFF 2013: Kristen Wiig continues to make us love her at the Hateship/Loveship party
See the Hateship/Loveship party photos »
All eyes were on Kristen Wiig at the C Lounge Goodnight Gansevoort pop up last night, where the post-premiere party for her new film Hateship/Loveship was held. The comedian celebrated her dramatic acting debut in a
Fritz BernaiseVena Cava black silk blouse complete with crochet detailing and matching black and white printed shorts (very on trend).Wiig posed for a few photos with fans—and as you can see from our gallery, you can take the girl out of SNL but you can’t take the SNL skit-worthy facial expressions out of the girl— before hiding away in her security-protected, back-corner tent. She was later overheard saying, “I just want to hang out tonight,” which was totally fair but mostly sad since most of the party had hoped for a chance to become her BFF.

TIFF 2013: Inside the Last of Robin Hood pre-party with Susan Sarandon, Kevin Kline and Moët

The champagne was flowing at last night’s party for The Last of Robin Hood. Before the cast arrived (A-listers Susan Sarandon, Kevin Kline and Dakota Fanning were all confirmed to attend), a select group of guests indulged in Moët & Chandon from golden, oversized goblets while taking in a stunning sunset view of Toronto’s skyline from the rooftop of the glitzy Park Hyatt hotel in Yorkville (does it get any better than that?). We chatted with Elaine Lui aka. Lainey Gossip and got the lowdown on her new show, The Social, what she’ll be wearing during TIFF and her trendy new accessory, a flavoured e-cigarette (they’ve been seen all over New York Fashion Week).

TIFF 2013: Nicole Kidman mingles with Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine and Alicia Vikander at The Railway Man party
See the photos from The Railway Man party »
Despite ultra-exclusive guest lists and top notch security teams, it’s sometimes actually very difficult to catch a glimpse of the stars at TIFF parties. So when I made eye contact with Nicole Kidman—Nicole Kidman!—only moments after walking in the door at SodaStream’s The Railway Man party, a few laps around the venue were necessary before I completely recovered. Held at the very spacious Live at the Hive, Kidman stayed at the centre of the action all night long, looking as graceful as ever but even more animated and excited to be there than you’d expect. (And while her Altuzarra suit was impeccable, it was her prim bow-on-the-toe Louis Vuitton heels that really caught my eye.)

TIFF 2013: 30 photos from inside the Blue Is the Warmest Color party on the Thompson patio

We’re just one day into TIFF 2013 and it’s possible we’ve already reached a gossip fever pitch. At last night’s Blue Is the Warmest Color party, the biggest buzz was about a certain Daily Beast article that’s been making the media rounds all week. While the Thompson rooftop filled with partygoers—basically everyone from Toronto Life’s Most Stylish party plus TIFF fans fresh from The Fifth Estate red carpet premiere—the crowd was eager to see how Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos would act around director Abdellatif Kechiche. (There was also many a mention of the infamous prosthetics used in the film, but we won’t get into that.)

TIFF 2012: Nina Dobrev, Daniel Radcliffe and Agyness Deyn got their swag on at NKPR’s IT Lounge
See the celebs that stopped by NKPR’s IT Lounge during TIFF »
The NKPR IT Lounge is undoubtedly one of Toronto’s swankiest TIFF gifting suites. Stars like Catherine Deneuve, Olivia Wilde, Ryan Gosling and AnnaLynne McCord have all stopped by in years past and with NKPR amping up their megawattage with the addition of legendary fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier shooting celebs for a day during TIFF, it’s not hard to see why boldface names like Daniel Radcliffe, Nina Dobrev, Adrien Grenier and Agyness Deyn stopped by.
