NYFW, I’mma let you finish but Alexander Wang just threw the best after party of all time
I am the first to admit that I have a pretty bad case of FOMO like, all the time. For example, whenever Rihanna is somewhere that I’m not, I’m basically blind with rage and regret (so, always because I’ve literally never been in the same place as her). But never, never, has my FOMO been […]

Street Style, Toronto: It’s all about jewel tones and pleats, pleats, pleats on day four of the shows
See all the street style pictures »
World MasterCard Fashion Week may be winding down, but Toronto’s stylish set is still bringing their sartorial A game to the tents. On day four of the Spring 2014 shows jewel tones were the name of the game. Burgundy was by far the most popular colour choice, with the shade splashed on structured hats, tailored pants and faux fur toppers. While one street style star wore burgundy from head to toe, another opted away from the monochromatic look, wearing a slick patent leather splash of the shade across the shoulders of his coat.
Emerald green and topaz yellow items rounded out the jewel tone trend, but the message was clear: when not embracing fall’s black and white trend, consider wearing printed pants, leather mini skirts and oversized coats in rich shades of colour.

Street Style, Toronto: 21 photos outside the tents
See street style from Toronto Fashion Week »
Despite dipping Toronto temperatures, stylish show attendees were keeping warm and heating up the streets of Toronto on day three of World MasterCard Fashion Week.
From capes to coats, layering was the key to taking outerwear from an essential to a fashion statement. Wooly sweaters and flannel knits were paired with printed jackets, leather toppers and slick pants. Plaid prints were a favourite items among the street style crowd, who did up ’90s style in true Canadian way. The colder weather also prompted a spike in fur coats and collars. Whether real or faux, fur was draped over shoulders, found inside jackets and worn as vests.
When it came to colour, the rainbow effect was the order of the day. Style Blog’s Nelia Belkova radiated warmth with her look: she donned a fuzzy, electric-lime jacket that made her black and yellow floral dress pop. Other notable bursts of colour included Hudson’s Bay Company stripes, a very psychedelic three-piece suit and candy apple red accessories. Whatever the shade worn, it all provided a necessary injection of brightness to counter the grey skies.

For the Rodarte Spring 2014 collection, the Mulleavy sisters reflected upon their own past. Their collection was inspired by their shared childhood in Los Angeles and models were decked out in looks fit for any wild child of the ’80s. Makeup artist James Kaliardos, working with Nars, created a look that played upon the graphic aesthetic of Hollywood circa 1980. He sculpted the models’ features with matte bronzers and made their eyes pop with a sharp black and white cat eye shape. It’s a totally wearable look for spring and easy for even makeup beginners to do.

Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013: Layer upon layer of Jeremy Laing glory
View Jeremy Laing’s Spring 2013 collection »
Jeremy Laing knows what’s up for Spring 2013 and his collection shown last night on the final day of The ShOws was undeniable proof. With details straight out of the ‘90s (think cargo pockets, tear-away buttons and cornrows), the collection of neutrals was layer upon layer of glory.
Laing found the season’s sweet spot—the spot where five layers are none too many and where a metallic slate button down looks downright staple. Mid-way through the show, a two-tone grey and white button down dress (ahem, the new tear-away?) helped it reach a sporty high. Other than the sporty slouch that Jeremy Laing perfected, the collection mixed in structure and many pieces had a sort of body armour vibe with cut-outs, exposed zippers and thick fabrics. Laing used beaded shoulder pad-esque pieces connected by thin black straps to create a sultry yet refined neckline like that of a futuristic sport playing goddess.

Paris Fashion Week Spring 2013: What to do when you’re caught between the paparazzi and Jennifer Lopez and notes from Valentino, Chanel and Dior

If you value your footwear (and your toes, for that matter) do not stand anywhere near Jennifer Lopez.
I learned this today as I was making my way to my seat at the Valentino show in a tent in the Tuileries. I have witnessed paparazzi frenzies many times in my career but there is a particularly panic that sets in when J.Lo is in the ‘hood. The freelance photographers can sniff a guaranteed money shot. The staff photographers know they will face the wrath of their editors if they come back empty handed.
Either way, they are all in battle mode.
