  • Jourdan Dunn is the new global face of Maybelline New York

    JOURDAN DUNN Maybelline

Big model news: Maybelline New York announced today that Jourdan Dunn will be the new global face of the brand. After being discovered by a model scout in the sunglasses section of a British store in 2007 (the dream, right?) Dunn’s impressive career has included walking the runway for top designers like Oscar de la Renta, Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga, as well as appearing in print campaigns for Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry and Rag & Bone. The London native (and BFF to Cara Delevingne) will be gracing Maybelline New York’s print and television campaigns beginning this month.

  • Why you should forget you ever knew that Kristen Stewart dyed her hair orange

    kristen stewart orange hair

Uh oh. Kristen Stewart dyed her hair orange this weekend, but it seems like that was maybe something we were not supposed to know. The bright dye job was for Stewart’s upcoming role in the indie film American Ultra, which is currently filming in New Orleans. Hence, Friday’s Instagram update from a NOLA hair salon, which showed a smiling, orange hair-hued Stewart giving the peace sign while posing next to a stylist.

  • Katy Perry does “slime green” hair for spring

    Katy Perry slime green hair

We thought Katy Perry was in recovery from her days of constant hair dyeing (the wigs were working so well!) but, nope. Bring on the green! Last night the singer showed off a spring-worthy change on her Instagram, courtesy colourist Nina K from the Chris McMillan Salon in Beverley Hills. (That’s Jennifer Aniston’s BFF/hair stylist, just FYI.) The new shade, which Perry affectionately calls “SLIME GREEN” is indeed a little swampy, looking more ’90s grunge than high fashion. But Perry’s always been one to embrace DIY-inspired dye jobs: her take on pink was very Coachella-ready and her electric blue looked best with a little bit of root growth.

  • Best beauty news: Lupita Nyong’o is the new face of Lancôme!

Well, this is just about the best news to kickstart the weekend: Lupita Nyong’o is the new face of Lancôme. The Oscar winning actress announced the news on Instagram this morning (it is the medium of choice for breaking celebrity beauty developments, after all) and fans of both Nyong’o and Lancôme are buzzing with excitement.

It’s also a pretty groundbreaking move: Nyong’o will be the brand’s first black ambassador, which makes her speech on beauty and race (from the Essence Magazine Black Women In Hollywood awards) all the more significant. And Nyong’o echoed similar sentiments in the press release announcing the Lancôme partnership: “I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman’s freedom to be herself.”

  • Exclusive: Jennifer Aniston talks to us about Aveeno’s oats and why Canadians have the best skin

If you’re going to get schooled on oats then it might as well be from Jennifer Aniston. Yes, you read that correctly, oats. Did you think I was going to say yoga? A chatty and upbeat Aniston, brand ambassador for Aveeno, spoke to us exclusively from Los Angeles about “The Beauty of Nature,” a four-video series she narrates which highlight the ingredients used in the brand’s skincare.

The first one, “Oat for Your Skin,” which celebrates the nifty little grain full of antioxidants, enzymes, lipids, proteins and vitamins that are vital for healthy skin, debuts today. As Aniston explains, the videos offer a behind the scenes look at the beginnings of an Aveeno product. “It’s an informative journey of the product and how it goes from the farm into the bottle.”

  • Quelle surprise! Dior gains Peter Philips, Chanel’s former makeup director

Beauty editors’ polished mouths dropped to the floor this morning with the announcement of Dior’s new creative and image director. The reason behind this beauty world startle? It’s Peter Philips, the former creative director for Chanel cosmetics. From 2008 to 2013, Philips was responsible for some of the French powerhouse’s major beauty product innovations, including launching now-iconic nail polish shades (Particulière, Jade and Mimosa, to name a few) as well as Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Colour. And how can we forget the beauty feats he pulled off for Chanel’s runway shows? For Spring 2009, he tattooed models with pearls, chains and blossoms. In Fall 2012 he made us all reconsider our eyebrows with the debut of custom Chanel bejeweled brows, and the following year we were ready to break out the glitter after he lined the models’ eyes with elegant sequins.

  • Bright hair for all! Demi Lovato, Nicole Richie and Kate Bosworth have all made dramatic colour changes

Forget the paparazzi! When you’re a celebrity with thousands upon thousands of Twitter followers, a selfie is the best way to announce a new hair colour. Change is clearly in the air right now, as Nicole Richie, Demi Lovato and Kate Bosworth all debuted bright new looks this week. Subtlety doesn’t seem to exist in any of their vocabularies either, as all three stars have made a dramatic change to their hair colour.

Demi Lovato may be the least surprising of the bunch, as she’s rocked almost every hair colour you can imagine, from platinum blonde to raven black to navy blue. However, fans on Lovato’s Facebook page were freaking out yesterday when she posted a photo with the caption, “So…. This happened…… Oops. #NEONLIGHTSTOUR.” The photo showed an electric razor alongside a pile of pink hair and a snipped off ponytail, prompting speculation that the singer had gone mega short. However, Lovato soon uploaded a selfie debuting her new look, a side-shaved hairstyle alongside the cheeky caption “IDGAF”. Either Lovato was feeling that YOLO attitude or perhaps she took inspiration from Rihanna, who championed the side-shaved look while on her 777 world tour. Either way this feisty new haircut matches perfectly with the singer’s rock-star stage persona.

  • Lobs for all! Taylor Swift is the latest star to embrace the cropped cut trend

Late last night there was some beauty magic underfoot. After hitting the stage one last time in London, Taylor Swift was feeling a little adventurous and got a haircut. No, not a trim. We’re talking real haircut. Taking a cue from her Victoria’s Secret bestie Karlie Kloss, the country pop sensation chopped off her signature […]

  • Go Canada! Annabelle Cosmetics taps Shenae Grimes-Beech as the new brand ambassador

    Shenae Grimes Annabelle Cosmetics

When Canadians come together in a big way we can’t help but feel a pang of pride. Case in point: iconic Canadian makeup company Annabelle Cosmetics has just announced their newest brand ambassador, Toronto-bred actress Shenae Grimes-Beech. This is basically like the beauty version of Team Canada!

Grimes-Beech, known for her work on 90210 and Degrassi: The Next Generation, has that girl next-door quality that’s necessary in a beauty brand ambassador—perhaps it’s due to her enviable wavy hair and a megawatt smile? “For me, the brand feels nostalgic in a way—I’ve grown up with it, and still buy it today. I’m super proud to be affiliated with a big piece of home,” Grimes-Beech said, via press release.

  • Suki Waterhouse cements her It girl status as the face of Burberry’s new Brit Rhythm fragrance

    Burberry Brit Rhythm Suki Waterhouse

There’s no denying Suki Waterhouse’s growing It girl status. The British actress and model (who also happens to be dating Bradley Cooper) has been tapped by Burberry as the face of the brand’s newest fragrance, Brit Rhythm. And based on the just-released campaign images, it’s clear that she was an excellent choice: Waterhouse’s bombshell domineer and edgy gaze complements the fragrance’s characteristics, described as “a blend of contradictions.”

The black and white digital campaign is set in a dark concert-hall venue and stars Waterhouse alongside British musician George Barnett of These New Puritans. The pair is caught in a sultry embrace right before walking off into a swarm of screaming fans and flashbulbs. (Because what’s more rock and roll than a steamy love fest before the show?)

  • Introducing Elizabeth and James Nirvana, Mary-Kate and Ashley’s newest fragrance collab

    Mary-Kate-Ashley-Olsen-Nirvana-fragrance

While you may have owned an assortment of Olsen twin-branded drugstore fragrances in the mid-’90s, the multi-millionaire moguls’ newest offering is of a much different calibre. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have ditched the pre-teen scent scene and entered the world of adult fragrance with two alluring eau de parfums. Launched as an extension of their contemporary Elizabeth and James brand, Elizabeth and James Nirvana White and Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black hit Sephora shelves this month and are sure to, for lack of a better cliche, fly off them.

Because in the era of just about every personality wanting to grow their brand—and audience— with a fragrance, it was actually consumer demand that prompted Sephora to partner with the Olsens. “Roughly two years ago, Sephora’s Kendo division — the development arm that handles strategic partnerships — approached Mary-Kate and Ashley after a fashion market research survey commissioned by the beauty retailer continually referenced the Olsens’ Elizabeth and James brand,” WWD reported in November.

  • Kristen Stewart stuns in Balenciaga’s latest fragrance ad for Rosabotanica

    Kristen Stewart Balenciaga Rosabotanica

Kristen Stewart is making use of that signature haunting gaze in the ad for Balenciaga’s latest fragrance, Rosabotanica. The scent is a variation of Florobotanica, which Stewart has been the face of since 2012.

Shot by Craig McDean, the latest photo showcases Stewart in a soft beauty portrait with vibrant orchids cascading across her shoulder—not a far stretch from the most recent Florobotanica ad (hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it).
