Fashion news: Erdem wins BFC/Vogue fund and Danielle Steele’s Louboutin obsession…er, collection
ERDEM Fall 2010. Photography by Peter Stigter Montreal’s Erdem Moralioglu beat out stiff competition from Christopher Kane, Marios Schwab and Nicholas Kirkwood to will the inaugural British Fashion Council/Vogue Fashion Fund award. Fashion industry VIPs like Maggie Rizer and PPR chairman François-Henri Pinault are teaming up to launch “A Bid to Save the Earth”, a green auction at Christie’s to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Karl Lagerfeld has an interesting theory about porn’s effect on crime rates. He told Bruce LaBruce in Vice: “Frustration is the mother of crime, and so there would be much more crime without prostitutes and porn movies…[but] I personally only like high-class escorts. I don’t like sleeping with people I really love. I don’t want to sleep with them because sex cannot last, but affection can last forever. I think this is healthy. Fashion news: Sophie Théallet wins CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award
Chanel Iman and Sophie Théallet. Photo via WWD. Sophie Théallet was awarded the sixth annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund grand prize of $200,000 and a year-long mentorship at last night’s awards dinner. Keynote speaker Alber Elbaz was introduced by Nicole Kidman and said of success: “It’s like a bottle of perfume. You smell it, you don’t sniff it or drink it.” With the career boost that last year’s winner Alexander Wang received, things are looking good for Théallet’s future.
