The top 5 things we hope Jason Wu’s Target collaboration includes
Left: Jason Wu shot by Peter Stigter. Right: The designer's Fashion Royalty doll collection Though Jason Wu’s upcoming collection for Target will arrive too soon for a launch in Canadian stores (the collection is set for February 5th of next year), we’re obviously considering a cross-border shopping trip. There’s sure to be many thrills to make our trip worthwhile, and here are our imaginary top 5.

NYFW backstage beauty: Red lips and bobby pins at Jason Wu
The humidity in New York right now may be horrible for hair, but it’s doing wonders for skin. It helps to explain the luminous skin witnessed backstage at Jason Wu, first prepped with skincare by Sunday Riley. “A lot of the girls are coming from Peter Som where the makeup was heavier, so we’re leaving cleanser on for a little bit longer,” explained Riley. A pump of her lactic acid cream was included for additional exfoliation. Then it was off into the hands of makeup artist Diane Kendal, who perfected skin with concealer, and blotted T-zones with powder. Taking direction from Wu’s inspiration for his collection of ‘50s and ‘90s Pop Art, as well as NYC artist KAWS, Kendal painted bright-red tomato mouths using a trifecta of product: M.A.C. Lip Pencil in “Redd,” a yet-to-be-launched lipstick shade called “Scarlet Ibis,” and M.A.C. Pigment in “Neon Orange.” Mascara was skipped, but lids were treated to a thin black line close to the lashes and smudged “to give eyes some definition.” OPI’s “Monsooner Than Later”—a near match to the lips—was applied to fingers, while “Samoan Sand,” a nude, was painted on toes.

NYFW diary: A flurry of Suno, Jason Wu, Doo.Ri, Costello Tagliapietra, and whizzing ambulances
Photography by John Lamparski/Getty Images
After a backstage emergency that had ambulances whizzing to the scene (talk about added drama), the Suno show at Milk Studios got underway almost an hour after its scheduled 8 p.m. time slot last night, but the duo’s loyal followers didn’t seem to mind, packing the studio to the rafters. Suno is known for their far-and-away inspirations, and while they had plenty of Rajasthani prints and Asian detailing, the collection on the whole was decidedly more June Cleaver than jet setter, with plenty of peplums, florals, and plaid apron-style smocks paired ironically with menswear-inspired dress shirts. And speaking of peplums, they’re everywhere!

Overheard at NYFW: Really loud (and strange?) model instructions at Jason Wu
Overheard backstage before Jason Wu’s Spring 2012 show: “You guys are SEXY and CAREFREE, ok?” We would have aimed for “sophisticated!” but hey, apparently we’re not the experts.

Celeb poll: Vote for your favourite dress from the Met Gala!
The Met Gala, the annual celebration of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s summer Costume Institute exhibit, is loosely known as the Oscars of fashion. This year, models of the moment, editrixes, big-deal designers, as well as fashion-crowd approved pop stars and actresses flocked to the famed red steps in the name of Alexander McQueen, the subject of this years exhibit entitled Savage Beauty. While the designer’s famed creations didn’t dominate the carpet quite as we had hoped (but more on that later), there were lots of juicy bright hues (Zoe Saldana and Ginnifer Goodwin), ladylike lace (Rihanna, Taylor Swift), anything-but-basic black (Christina Ricci, Ashley Olsen, Stella McCartney), and plenty of glitzy gowns (Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane Kruger) to feast our eyes on.
As for our faves? We loved Diane in her up-to-there Jason Wu gown, and Liv Tyler in her breathtaking feathered Givenchy couture. And you?
