Meet the man behind Rihanna’s (and Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn’s) tattoos
Check out all Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy’s celebrity work »
Supermodel besties Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn solidified their bond earlier this week by getting matching tats from New York City based celebrity tattoo artist Keith “Bang Bang” McCrudy. The once taboo form of defiance has morphed into an element of self-expression and personal style. Today getting inked is nbd, celebs and style setters are more covered than ever and McCurdy is responsible for some of the most famous ones.
The celeb tat artist bought his first tattoo machine when he was eighteen and tattooed his first celebrity, Rihanna, when he was twenty. Riri got wind of the ink master after seeing a Freddy Kruger piece he did online. The pop princess was only eighteen when McCurdy etched Sanskirt on her side and since then has brought a number of her a-list friends to McCurdy’s Lower East Side shop, Bang Bang Tattoos. The shop, which is set up much like an art gallery, includes a private room downstairs for celebrities, nudity, and nude celebrities.

Jourdan Dunn is the new global face of Maybelline New York
Big model news: Maybelline New York announced today that Jourdan Dunn will be the new global face of the brand. After being discovered by a model scout in the sunglasses section of a British store in 2007 (the dream, right?) Dunn’s impressive career has included walking the runway for top designers like Oscar de la Renta, Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga, as well as appearing in print campaigns for Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry and Rag & Bone. The London native (and BFF to Cara Delevingne) will be gracing Maybelline New York’s print and television campaigns beginning this month.

All the sexy, fashiony connections we could draw from Beyoncé’s epic visual album drop
As the Internet, every friend or your internal Queen Bey clock have already alerted you to, Beyoncé released her fifth album exclusively on iTunes just before midnight last night. Quietly, elegantly and with the regal control we’ve come accustomed to with the superstar, she one-upped the leakers by being the first to release the self-titled album to the grovelling masses. “I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it. I am bored with that,” she says via video press release. “There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”
Beyoncé is 14 tracks, 17 videos and features a never-ending contributor roster ranging from Frank Ocean and Drake to Terry Richardson and Jonas Åkerlund. Blue Ivy’s in there too, as is her pops Jay-Z. According to the press release, Beyoncé has been recording the songs and filming the videos for over a year while on her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour which is a feat cause a) how the eff does one even function on so high a frequency and b) how the eff did not one of the zillion contribs and/or innocent bystanders (like any of these people) say a thing? Likely to be revealed later: Scarlet letter Bs imprinted on the bodies of 100 music moguls.

Fash-Food Nation: A new batch of models, bloggers and editors is changing the way fashion and food blend together
By Olivia Stren
On the inaugural episode of a web series called Elettra’s Goodness, Elettra Wiedemann, host, model and daughter of Isabella Rossellini, is making brie-stuffed puff pastries, shallot confit and fig-and-raspberry compote with actress Blake Lively. They’re stoveside at Richard Gere’s Relais & Chateau Bedford Post Inn, and, before cracking eggs and unfurling pastry sheets, Lively declares in a tone that is intended to be apologetic: “I don’t ever cook with a recipe. So it’s all a little wild.” She is, we are to understand, in her madcap, recipe-eschewing ways, the ultimate domestic goddess, able to concoct compotes off-book, fired by pure, sensuous instinct. As Lively stirs the confit, she talks about the wonders of balsamic vinegar and making butterscotch with “Elwyn,” the pastry chef at Per Se, while Wiedemann shares a fantasy of tiling her kitchen. We then learn that Lively’s sister once hand-tiled her own loo while sporting Louboutins.

A complete wardrobe recap from last night’s gilded supermodel invasion of the London Olympics closing ceremony
Among the many highlights of last night’s Olympic Closing Ceremonies, one of our favourites was definitely the supermodel en masse march, a fashion moment that completely cemented London’s role as one of the industry’s capitals. Some of fashion’s most recognized faces, including Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell (the definite stars of the show) along with Lily Cole, Stella Tennant, Lily Donaldson, Georgia May Jagger, Karen Elson, Jourdan Dunn and David Gandy, were all clad in seven of Britain’s most revered designers.

They said/We said: Both sides to Natalia Vodianova’s “it’s better to be skinny than to be fat” comments
“C’mon guys, you know it’s better to be skinny than to be fat.” Or so says Natalia Vodianova, who accidentally stuck her foot in her mouth with said comment over the weekend during a Vogue Festival panel discussion with fellow models Jourdan Dunn, Eva Herzigova and Lily Cole.
The sound bite has since been touted as the new “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” (Kate Moss famously said that years ago) despite the fact that Vodianova quickly clarified her comments by saying it was unhealthy to be obese.
To further clear things up, the Russian supermodel took to her Facebook page last night in a post titled “VOGUE FESTIVAL and WORLD ECONOMY S.” (IN HER HASTE SHE FORGOT TO TURN OFF CAPS LOCK.) Vodianova apologized, saying the light atmosphere of the panel prompted her comments and that they had been taken out of context. She then went on to suggest that perhaps our perception of body image didn’t fall solely on the shoulders of the modelling industry but also on those of food industry/beauty industry/diet pill industry/book industry—essentially, everyone:
“…there are other industries that might be even more to blame like food industry that constantly reinventing ways of pushing food on us. Makes people stuff fridges with food, buying pills, millions of books on diets, shopping for the right clothes to hide those extra few pounds, beauty products. I guess some would say that’s what makes our economy go around. Yes, I choose to do more and eat less. Sorry world economy, I am a bad client!”
Body image is a complex issue that needs to be addressed on multiple levels. But while we do believe her comments were sensationalized, whose comments aren’t in this day and age? It’s a good segue into the ongoing discussion about models’ rights, to be sure, but next time, Vodianova may want to tread just a touch more carefully.

Maternity leave has never seemed so short for models; Heidi Klum walked five weeks after giving birth to her daughter; Gisele was back on the runway six weeks later, and now Jourdan Dunn made her return yesterday at LFW 10 weeks after having a baby boy. The scariest thing about this trend is that 10 weeks now sounds like long leave of absence. [Vogue UK]
