As if! Kate’s wedding dress (a.k.a. the dress that changed our lives) is deemed “irrelevant” by Wikipedia
The very thought of debating whether or not Kate Middleton’s wedding dress was important seems ridiculous, but that’s exactly what happened when Wikipedia published an article entitled “Wedding Dress of Kate Middleton” the day of the royal wedding. It was immediately flagged for deletion, and Wikipedia contributors soon got in an uproar on the article’s “talk” page. They called the article trivial and irrelevant, one even going so far as to say:
“The sheer presence of this article is one of the lowest points ever reached by Wikipedia! What amazes me is that there’s acculturatede [sic] people (since the article was well written) who has such interests, and free time to lose to devoted themselves for such totally irrelevant arguments.”

The best photo we could find of Kate from the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert (plus complete wardrobe details!)
View every look Kate has worn since her engagement » Well, this is upsetting. After a day of searching, we’ve only been able to come up with this pretty vague photo of what Kate wore to Monday night’s Diamond Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace. Thousands of ticket winners crowded the stands around the gilded statue […]

Kate Middleton closes out the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee looking absolutely beautiful in another Alexander McQueen dress
View every look Kate has worn since her engagement » Well, we’ve never been this happy to be wrong. While we had a feeling that Kate might recycle her outfit for today’s conclusion of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, we’re happy that she didn’t, and instead, chose to wear this stunning blush lace knee-length dress […]

All the glorious royal wardrobe details from Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee pageant!
For those of you who were still in REM mode yesterday morning, you missed quite the to-do yesterday in London. Okay, maybe a “to-do” is putting it mildly, when in actuality, Queen Elizabeth‘s 1000-boat-strong Diamond Jubilee river pageant was 60 years in the making, and also hasn’t happened since Queen Victoria‘s in 1897. So lets just say it was QUITE THE TO-DO! The Queen donned an Angela Kelly–designed boucle white coat with flecked gold ribbon embroidery and Swarovski crystals (what, no diamonds?)—reportedly so that she’d be visible from afar amidst all the naval uniforms. Aboard the gilded Spirit of Chartwell and flanked by the royal family in all their uniformed glory, the Queen gave the good ol’ royal wave for a good portion of the afternoon while millions of onlookers cheered her on from the banks of the Thames.

Quotable: Sarah Burton will always treasure her time creating for Kate
It’s not often that we hear Sarah Burton, famed successor of Alexander McQueen, comment on… well… anything really—especially not about the iconic ivory wedding gown she designed for Kate Middleton. Burton recently opened up to Sarah Jessica Parker for Interview Magazine about the dress and what she got in return: “It was a precious, magical […]

PFW Diary: All the volume (and we mean volume) at yesterday’s Alexander McQueen show
View our picks » “You want volume? I’ll give you volume.” That seemed to be Sarah Burton’s thinking for the Fall 2012 Alexander McQueen collection. The show opened with white jacquard skirt suits featuring fluffy collars that extended from chin to elbow then moved into doily dresses with arcing sleeves and hips. Pink puffballs of Mongolian […]

They said/We said: Could yesterday’s theatrical finale at McQ mean big news for the Alexander McQueen offshoot?
We’ve been longing for some spectacular—as in, spectacle-laden—fashion since the days of Alexander McQueen’s Widows of Culloden hologram and Galliano’s snow tunnel. And then came McQ’s Fall 2012 finale starring model and actress Kristen McMenamy (all masterfully caught on video).
The grey-haired fashion doyenne (with her tresses in what we can only describe as a cross between a ‘50s pin-up ‘do and a Twister bagel) closed the show in a white tulle wedding gown. But in true McQueen style, McMenamy does so much more than just strut down the runway; she discovers a rope hidden in the floor and artfully prances around follows it.
As she reaches the end of the catwalk, the brick wall disappears only to be replaced by 60 real-life trees straight out of Harry Potter’s Forbidden Forest (we literally gasped) and a little cottage with pulsing lights and techno music. Now that’s our kind of rave.
We think this is a brilliant PR move for the lesser-known brand, which has been trying to realign itself with its eponymous big sister since the two recoupled in 2010. Both Sarah Burton and François Pinault (chief executive of McQueen’s parent company PPR and, more famously, Salma Hayek’s husband) have acknowledged that they are trying to elevate McQ to new sartorial heights. And wow, have they ever succeeded.

Vote! Who takes the cake for best dressed designer/muse duo at the British Fashion Awards?
Some of our favourite fashion talents were celebrated last night at the 2011 British Fashion Awards in London, with Sarah Burton, Mary Katrantzou, and Charlotte Olympia (to name a few) coming out on top in their respective categories. As always, what everyone was wearing was equally top of our minds, and we’ve especially enjoyed these neat little red carpet photo combos of megawatt designer avec megawatt muse (or muse-come-designer in Victoria Beckham’s case). In one corner, we’ve got the bright-young-thing duo of Christopher Kane and Alexa Chung donning a look from his Spring 2012 collection, and with Charlotte Olympia kitten heels. In the other, you’ve got the black-on-black pairing of Marc Jacobs and Beckham in her own design (may we just say, Vicky’s looking less extreme than usual, and we like it) The always-cool McCartney and Moss duo triumph with Stella in a sexy-tomboy suit and Kate in all-over fishnet. So, who takes the cake for the best dressed duo?

They said/We said: Pippa Middleton’s Alexander McQueen bridesmaid’s dress is finally available in the UK and its selling fast!
Even though she wasn’t the one getting married, Pippa Middleton’s bridesmaid’s dress, also designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, received just as much attention as Kate’s wedding dress, and was loved by fashion critics and Royal fans alike. Now, finally after many replicas have been made, you can buy a “less detailed” version of the dress—meaning there’s a zipper back closure instead of buttons, and no lace inserts. Online luxury retailer net-a-porter.com is selling the Pippa-inspired dress for US$3,100.

Quotable: Alexander McQueen was inspired by Joey Tribbiani?
During an interview with Chinese luxury megastore Lane Crawford, Sarah Burton reminisces about Alexander McQueen‘s quirky inspirations: “I remember him saying to me, ‘I watched Friends last night, did you see the shirt that Joey was wearing? But then, he would get a Van Eyck book out, so it was this kind of mad mix. […]

They said/We said: Marc Jacobs is asking for the big bucks at Dior
Following the recent conviction of John Galliano, the buzz around Marc Jacobs replacing him at Dior intensifies. The latest rumour is that Jacobs and business partner Robert Duffy are in negotiations and asking for a salary package of $10 million.
If Jacobs cashes in on the deal, he’ll be one of the highest-paid designers in the world. The new position of creative director also means more work for Jacobs, adding Dior’s two couture shows on top of his existing workload.
Now that it’s looking more and more likely that Jacobs will say goodbye to Louis Vuitton, the people at Vuitton seem to be scrambling to find a replacement. Apparently they’ve approached many of fashion’s heavyweights including Alber Elbaz, the Proenza Schouler boys, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Sarah Burton, and Hedi Slimane. So far, Elbaz, Ghesquiere and Burton have declined.
