Some of the top Fall runway trends made their way deep into red carpet territory tonight, as the A-listers put on Hollywood’s biggest and best parade. From the rich reds on Emma Stone and Natalie Portman seen this season on the runway at Michael Kors, to the crisp whites on Gwyneth Paltrow, Rooney Mara, and Octavia Spencer seen at Raf Simons‘ last Jil Sander collection (not to mention everywhere at the Golden Globes), to the peplums spotted on Michelle Williams, Tina Fey, and just about every runway from New York to Milan, it seems that everyone is drinking the same Kool-Aid. But who did it best? We’re loving Gwyneth, Michelle, Jessica, Rooney, and Angelina (her right leg gets a special shout-out), but who makes your cut? Where to begin. With the celebs? Lana Del Rey (carrying the namesake Del Rey bag from the ever-growing fashion house), Michelle Williams, the surprisingly petite Elizabeth Olsen, Leigh Lezark, and Ladies Mary and Edith Crawey—I mean Michelle Dockery and Laura Carmichael—all sat front row at Mulberry; and then there were the models (Jacquetta Wheeler, Irina Lazareanu) and It girls Poppy Delevigne and model/It girl/socialite Caroline Sieber at Matthew Williamson.

A long-time purveyor of chicness, Mellamphy was the genius behind Yorkville boutique Hazel, and more recently has become one of the key members of the Bay’s new transformation team. Green is the new black. At least according to Chanel, Gucci, and the nine other stellar brands that have all pledged to create eco-friendly designs for this season’s red carpets.

It’s all part of Livia Firth’s (otherwise known as Colin Firth’s wife and the luckiest woman in the world) Green Carpet Challenge (GCC), an initiative she started with journalist Lucy Siegle two years ago. Since then, the movement has garnered some serious support from fashion heavyweights like Frida Giannini, Franca Sozzani, and Tom Ford.

Starting with the Golden Globes this Sunday, the designers will create gowns, accessories, and suits conforming to the GCC’s design principles. As to who will wear what, everything is very hush-hush. Firth, however, has announced that she will be wearing a Giorgio Armani creation made entirely from eco-friendly fabrics.

During the past two award seasons, Firth has only worn environmentally friendly gowns on the red carpet—including a repurposed wedding gown and a cocktail dress made from scrap fabric. Perhaps the most famous of them all was a gown made from her husband’s old Tom Ford suits. Yes. Please.

Pictures of Firth’s dresses along with the other eco-friendly creations will be available on vogue.com starting January 15.

We don’t have to tell you that Tom Ford has special powers in the world of fashion, and that everything he’s touched—since making his name at Gucci in the mid-nineties to starting his own eponymous line a few years back—has turned to literal and figurative gold. For the past four seasons he has done a semi-private runway show during fashion week, invitation going to select press only, making his adoring fans wait at least two months to see the coveted wears. His collections usually garner great reviews, but for Spring 2012, and the first time probably ever, his grand plan might not have gone as well as planned.

Today, Vogue.com released photos of the collection, but based on reviews from editors and critics back in September, it already had a tainted reputation to contend with. Criticisms of the line were that the clothes drew too much on what Ford, and other designers, had already shown, but Vogue argues that these criticisms can be quieted on seeing the collection up close: “most revealing in this exclusive, first close-up look at Tom Ford’s new collection is the detail lost to the original viewers who saw the clothes momentarily swish by in the runway presentation.”

For those of you who missed it, Tom Ford was on television last night, speaking almost no stop for a whole hour. About things like baths, mid-life crises, and leaving Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind, a series of OWN documentaries looking at the top creative minds, followed the designer for the past year or so, through the intimate launch of his womenswear collection last September to the opening of his store in Beverley Hills earlier this year. Throughout the hour, the designer/genius/demigod throws out so many quotables about fashion, branding, style, and art that we’ve lost count. Here though, are the top six most unexpected:
