Chloé Comme Parris Fall 2013: The grunge trend makes its first mark at Toronto Fashion Week
See the Chloé Comme Parris Fall 2013 collection »
The dreamy, artsy girl we usually see on Chloé Comme Parris runways showed her tougher, ennui-filled side for Fall 2013 at World Mastercard Fashion Week, slouching aggressively out to the sounds of Nirvana’s “All Apologies.” Nineties grunge reappeared in international Spring 2013 collections and continues to fly its flag into fall with Hedi Slimane’s all too faithful interpretation for Saint Laurent Paris (most of the fashion media wasn’t having it but it gave Courtney Love “gasms” and reminded her of Value Village).
Here, under-25 Toronto sisters Chloé and Parris Gordon applied their own richly detailed aesthetic to classic signifiers like check shirts wrapped around the waists of slips: their dresses are beautifully cut in silk and feature custom 19th century Arts & Crafts-influenced prints (the Gordons’ mom is an enthusiast of the era). Adding to the feeling of rebellious, seething youth were crop tops, patterned thigh-highs, tough leather, army overcoats, vests layered over sheer tunics layered over cropped pants, and dresses slashed across the chest and held together with what looked like metal body piercings.

16 things that prove 1990s style really is the biggest trend right now
As our Spring 2013 fashion and beauty trend reports show, 1990s style is experiencing quite the resurgence right now. Plaids, slip dresses, grown-out roots and faded florals all mark this return to grunge—and where fashion leads, pop culture follows. (Also, the fact that online editor Randi Bergman has been live-tweeting her way through every original 90210 episode on Netflix may have something to do with it…) It’s nearly impossible to visit your favourite website without coming across a ’90s reference, and as such we’ve rounded up 16 of the the best links to prove 1990s style is here to stay—for a season or two, at least.

Get ready to peel back those layers, kids. Here comes the sun. Spring 2013 is finally upon us, and with it comes an onslaught of new fashionable desires. To prep, we’ve distilled a month long of fashion shows from New York, London, Milan and Paris and have brought you the top 15 trends you’ll need bookmarked.
From Marc Jacobs’ 1960s Edie Sedgwick infatuation to Dries Van Noten and Phillip Lim’s ode to 1990s grunge, believe us, we’ll have plenty of Spring 2013 fashion goodness to work from. Aside from the various time stamps, designers found inspiration worldwide this season: Japan (Prada, Haider Ackermann and Etro were all Asian-inspired), Italy (Proenza Schouler and Altuzarra put heels on the gladiator sandal), the US West Coast (beach prints reigned supreme at Victoria Beckham), the travelling music festival (Coachella 2013 brought to you by Tory Burch and Isabel Marant?) and even underwater (say hello to Seapunk, your newest fascination).

Street Style, New York: 17 photos of fur, plaid and coat-over-coat layers outside Fall 2013 fashion week
See our street style photos from outside New York Fashion Week »
It’s on! The first day of New York Fashion Week already under our belts and we’re slowly but surely getting back into the street style spin. Despite the snow, the fashion flock has returned to mount Lincoln (Center) to show off between shows that yesterday included BCBG, Richard Chai Love, Creatures of the Wind and homegirl Tanya Taylor. It’s pretty frigid out, and so far it looks like people are keeping it real (save for the bare legged Lauren Santo Domingo at last night’s Dannijo presentation party). Furs, heavy plaids and coat-over-coat layers were all favourites for practical cold weather dressing within these first 17 selects. The 1990s grunge trend seems a perfect match for the weather as well, with many of these ladies sporting button down plaid shirts tied at the waist and worn over shorts layers with toques and bowler hats à la Bridget Fonda in Singles. Oh yes. Stay tuned for our next batch of photos on Monday and enjoy these grungy nuggets in the meantime.

The Urban Outfitters swim look book is way nice to look at when it’s gross outside
See the Urban Outfitters swim look book »
Considering how low on Vitamin D we currently are, the Urban Outfitters swimwear look book was quite a sight for sore eyes when it landed our inbox yesterday. Praise the sun gods, really.
Models Tallulah Morton and Janell Shirtcliff prance around this beach front locale in the retailer’s 2013 styles. Part Miami Vice, part Dannijo Instagram, the Colin Leaman-shot photos allow the swimwear to pop and take centre stage against sunny blues, yellows and a perfect pink Cadillac. Urban Outfitters is offering the bulk of the 150 styles online. The first offerings are up now and will continue to launch through May. The mix and match program will be available again this year and they will also have a variety of styles from Billabong, Volcom and L*Space among others.

Wildfox’s Spring 2013 lookbook makes our Clueless dreams come true
See Wildfox’s Spring 2013 Lookbook inspired by Clueless »
If you’ve watched Clueless a few too many times on Netflix (which, by the way, is impossible), relive the magic with Wildfox’s Spring 2013 lookbook inspired by the film. Aptly named “Kids in America,” the editorial answers a firm “neither!” to Cher Horowitz’s “Do you prefer “fashion victim’ or ‘ensembly challenged?”
The Los Angeles-based brand has taken the culture gem straight out of 1995 and into 2013 with new takes on graphic T-shirts, Cher’s iconic red dress and plaid school girl skirts. Our favourite looks and moments from Clueless have been recreated in a completely shoppable way, so needless to say we’re excited.
Wildfox designer Kimberley Gordon wanted to pay homage to Clueless director Amy Heckerling, saying “I was about 12 around when Clueless came out and I was so in love with the characters, I didn’t just love the clothes, I loved the girls who wore the clothes – which made me want to wear them even more” on her site.
