British Invasion: Mulberry brings its iconic Bayswater bag and signature English style to Canadian shores this fall
See Mulberry’s celeb style in the making »
When it comes to fashionable fixtures at London Fashion Week, Alexa, Lily and Del Rey rule the front row. And we don’t mean the long-legged, doe-eyed It girls du jour—we’re referring to the fabled Mulberry handbags perennially perched on their laps.
These days, it seems no British style icon, from Victoria to Kate to the Duchess of Cambridge, steps out of her Chelsea mansion without the latest Mulberry on her arm. But before the classic English label was the calling card of London luxury, it was the epitome of British country chic. Founded in 1971 in Somerset by accessories designer Roger Saul, Mulberry’s roots are based firmly in le style anglais—think tweedy coats, woollen knits and the Downton Abbey-era pastimes of hunting, shooting and fishing. Known for its quintessential Britishness and country practicality, Mulberry was the go-to luggage maker for the English upper classes in the ’80s, but by the late ’90s, its dowdy old-world rep was outshone by sexier brands like Gucci and Prada.

Inside Prada’s The Great Gatsby party: Carey Mulligan, Katy Perry, Alexa Chung and more
Only a few weeks ago, Tiffany & Co. threw a big New York bash for the exquisite costume jewellery it featured in The Great Gatsby. It was only a matter of time before Prada followed suit, celebrating its own affiliation with the film and the fabulous Gatsby costumes Miuccia Prada designed in collaboration with the film’s costume designer, Catherine Martin.
Last night, Prada’s New York flagship (that’s the Prada New York Epicenter to you!) fêted this connection with the star-studded opening of an exhibition of the costumes. On display for only a couple of weeks, the exhibition showcases mannequins dressed in character’s costumes, dresses, hats, shoes, and jewellery side by side with sketches, production stills, and never before seen backstage footage. If that’s not enough of a reason to visit, also displayed is a 200 foot mural depicting a montage drawn from the spectacular scenes hosted by Jay Gastby (aka. Leonardo Dicaprio) at his Long Island mansion to really help the visitors capture the roaring ’20s experience.

Brit Awards 2013: The top 4 looks on the red carpet
See the Brit Awards Red Carpet looks up-close »
With the Oscars just a few days away, the Brit Awards 2013 mark the last few red carpet moments before Sunday’s grand finale. The excitement is building to a fever pitch, to say the least. The annual music awards show included some of the world’s most famous musical artists. While we won’t be seeing them at the Oscars, they certainly used this moment to shine.
With a more relaxed dress code, many of the attendees experimented with new styles slightly outside of their comfort zone. Taylor Swift arrived in a sophisticated sleek black dress by Elie Saab with a double slit—a more mature look for the singer. Lana Del Rey also wore black, but with a casual vibe that is perhaps not as glamourous as usual. She opted for a simple Chanel shirtdress. Alexa Chung also defied convention, wearing a white Valentino jumpsuit with a pair of simple black stilettos. But leave it to Rita Ora to up the glamour of the Brits. She certainly didn’t play it safe in an Ulyana Sergeenko blush pink couture gown.

Jennifer Lawrence vs. Alexa Chung: Who wore strapless best?
See the strapless looks up-close »
Two top trendsetters, Jennifer Lawrence and Alexa Chung, caught our eye this week with their unique red carpet looks.
At the Santa Barbara Film Festival where she was crowned best actress, Jennifer Lawrence switched up her style by sporting a black and blue striped Stella McCartney strapless jumpsuit from the designer’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection. While the blogosphere reviews on the look have been mixed, we dig it from head—light ombré beachy hair—to toe—simple black Casedei heels. The look was cinched at the waist for a slender silhouette that gave off just a hint of Jennifer Lawrence’s ample sexiness.
On the more feminine end of the spectrum, Alexa Chung proved once again to be one of the world’s top style stars when she walked the red carpet at the amfAR New York Gala To Kick Off New York Fashion Week. She wore a black and white strapless Chanel tweed and pearl dress from the label’s Spring 2013 collection paired with two-tone Chanel PVC heels. Makeup was kept simple, and Chung wore her hair in a low ponytail to keep with her casual elegance that has become her signature.

Gossip Girl’s top 15 fashion moments: We take a look back at six seasons of headbands, cleavage, Vera Wang and more
See some of our favourite Gossip Girl fashion moments »
Now that the one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite has been revealed, it’s time to mourn the loss of one of the most fashionable shows on television. Since 2007, Gossip Girl has been spreading rumours, sending out blasts, and hiding behind
herhis computer until the shocking finale yesterday.Despite the social sabotage, twisting plotlines and the never-ending bad luck that was bestowed upon the Upper East Siders, Gossip Girl has become known for the fashion. From Blair Waldorf’s affinity for headpieces (headbands in high school, fascinators when dating a Prince) to Serena van der Woodsen’s love of not wearing pants and showing a lot of cleavage, there have been some seriously defining moments for the television show and the generation of its many fans. We’ve watched the characters ditch their uniforms and embrace wearing custom Vera Wang, Marchesa and Zuhair Murad as their lives spin out of control again, and again. And we can’t deny that we’ve enjoyed every moment of it. We’ve watched as the fashion industry embraced the show in return, with cameo roles throughout the seasons played by Rachel Zoe, Tory Burch, Alexa Chung and more.

Blake Lively, Linda Evangelista, Elle Fanning and more! Who wore Chanel best on the Bijoux de Dimants red carpet?
Check out the looks from the Chanel red carpet and vote!
In the battle of who wears Chanel best, the victor is often not easy to spot. Last night in New York City Chanel celebrated the 80th anniversary of its Bijoux de Dimants collection and as a fashion house known to attract many celebrities, this event was no exception.
Blake Lively made her first public appearance since marrying Ryan Reynolds (he snuck in after her red carpet walk) and wore Chanel from the Fall 2012 Couture collection. It was paired with Christian Louboutin heels (she really doesn’t wear anything else), Chanel jewels and a newlywed glow—Blake Lively’s skin looked fantastic! Alexa Chung, who recently announced she will be writing a book, wore an embroidered piece from the brand’s pre-Spring 2013 collection. The voluminous dress makes her look like a young girl attending a birthday party, but we’re into it.

Inside Topshop Queen Street: We tour the It Brit label’s latest shop-in-shop at the Bay
Check out the pictures from the new store!
It Brit megabrand Topshop has finally gotten a space to call their own in downtown Toronto. After opening a two-floor shop-in-shop at Yorkdale Shopping Centre last year (and kicking it all off with a blowout party featuring Coco Rocha, The Kills and Harley Viera Newton, to boot), Topshop has one-upped its first Canadian location, by opening an expanded spot at The Bay Queen Street. What used to be a small selection of the brand’s wears has been transformed into a 19,000 square feet of mirrored mecca rivaled only by its predecessor.
Topshop is loved by the likes of Kate Moss and Alexa Chung, so you know the brand is top notch. The Bay’s new Queen Street shop-in-shop has been filled with fur hats, two-tone purses and graphic sweaters that all seem just perfect for an early shopping spree. While the clothing is fine and dandy and we’d be happy to carry armfuls of clothing out of there, upon spotting the shoe section, we almost fainted.

Front Row Battles: From Emma Stone and Dianna Agron at Miu Miu to Lana Del Rey and Alexa Chung at Mulberry, who did Spring 2013 FROW best?
Check out our front row pictures from Spring 2013 Fashion Week! »
Front row seating at the Spring 2013 Fashion Week collections has been an exciting who’s-who jumble of predictable favourites and amazing surprises this year.
Miu Miu’s Spring 2013 collection was presented today in Paris, with Glee’s Dianna Agron front and centre of the It girl mélage that came to check out Miuccia’s latest creations. Looking quite mod, she wore a ‘60s look of a turquoise dress, blue heels and purple tights, all by Miu Miu. Dianna Agron was seen with actress Amanda Seyfried who was wearing a Prada suit, Emma Stone and Felicity Jones both in Miu Miu and fashion week fixture and designer herself Chloë Sevigny. The girls looked like they were about star in the brand’s latest campaign, although Sevigny can already boast about that.

It girl must-reads! Both Lena Dunham and Alexa Chung are writing books
It’s a good week for fashionable female icons. Just a mere day after it was announced that Lena Dunham is writing a book, it has been revealed that Alexa Chung is planning on doing the same thing.
While both books will offer advice and personal anecdotes, the comparisons end there. According to British Vogue, Alexa Chung’s “will allow fans to step inside her world, as she reveals how she decides what to wear, her fashion influences and style tips.” Due out in September 2013, the book will feature Chung’s writing, as well as personal photographs, drawings and sketches—some of which can already be seen if you follow her on Twitter. (Fingers are crossed for an entire chapter on quirky nail art inspiration!)
While Alexa Chung has secured a publisher, Lena Dunham’s search for one is part of the publicity for her forthcoming book.
