Celeb poll: Vote for your favourite dress from the Met Gala!
The Met Gala, the annual celebration of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art‘s summer Costume Institute exhibit, is loosely known as the Oscars of fashion. This year, models of the moment, editrixes, big-deal designers, as well as fashion-crowd approved pop stars and actresses flocked to the famed red steps in the name of Alexander McQueen, the subject of this years exhibit entitled Savage Beauty. While the designer’s famed creations didn’t dominate the carpet quite as we had hoped (but more on that later), there were lots of juicy bright hues (Zoe Saldana and Ginnifer Goodwin), ladylike lace (Rihanna, Taylor Swift), anything-but-basic black (Christina Ricci, Ashley Olsen, Stella McCartney), and plenty of glitzy gowns (Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane Kruger) to feast our eyes on.
As for our faves? We loved Diane in her up-to-there Jason Wu gown, and Liv Tyler in her breathtaking feathered Givenchy couture. And you?

Celeb vote: Who was best dressed at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards?
Last night, menswear designer Billy Reid was awarded the US$300,000 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund prize and the fashion firmament was there–from Kim Kardashian to Karl Lagerfeld and every socialite, starlet, stylist and designer that exists in that rather considerable chasm between. We picked some of our favourite looks of the night and threw in a few outliers because, frankly, the young starlet uniform of a short dress and booties is starting to get a little boring. Who do you think was best dressed? (If you need a better view, there’s a full gallery after the jump.)

Fashion news: Rodarte outfits the Olympics, MK and Ashley launch a denim line and Sammi “Sweetheart” might walk at Bryant Park
Surprise – Rodarte gets their own fashion show at the Olympics. The New York Times magazine asked Kate and Laura Mulleavy to design 13 outfits for athletes, including figure skaters, a ski jumper and snowboarders. Figure skater Johnny Weir will be decked out in head-to-toe crocheted Rodarte; we’re curious to see what the athletes will be wearing as they compete outdoors. [Racked]
Adding to their whirlwind month, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have launched a new denim line, Textile Elizabeth and James. Launching in March, the three-jean collection is ‘70s inspired, both in style and name: there’s the Hendrix, the Stevie and the Joni, all featuring a hippie twist, be it through a high-waist or bellbottom leg. The jeans will be sold exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Intermix with plans to expand the collection to a full lifestyle collection in the fall. [WWD]

Fashion news: Gemma Ward quits modelling and Burberry jumps in the social networking trenches
House of Holland essentially arose out of a joke and a rhyming dictionary. [Guardian, via Refinery 29]
Gemma Ward may be ready to retire from her modelling career–her agent announced that she has no plans to continue on the catwalk. After photos of the absentee Australian surfaced on fashion blogs last week, Ward’s physique has come under scrutiny for being “plus-size,” as it has been with every model who starts to look normal. Fashion news: Marni sweets, champagne Louboutins and the Olsenboye parade
It was only a matter of time before Christian Louboutin’s shoe designs got delicate enough for a princess—Cinderella to be exact. Louboutin teamed up with champagne company Piper-Heidsieck to design a glass slipper that will be sold in the Le Rituel gift set along with a bottle of bubbly. [WSJ]
For shoe fanatics, Salvatore Ferragamo is launching an online store to make luxury shopping that much easier. A site dedicated to the company’s museum will also be available shortly at museoferragamo.com. [WWD]

Fashion news: Blonde gazeteer, Anna Sui to do the undoable, and a more chocolatey Giles
FitFlop, the shoes that tone your leg muscles while you walk, have signed Anna Sui to design a special edition pair. Did someone get their hands on a pair of Uggs and a Bedazzler? Even Anna Sui can’t work her magic on these. [The Cut]
